chaNGiNG treNds iN remodeliNG reasoNs aNd rooms americans are in love with remodeling. Television networks such as hGTV and diy run 24 hours a day with shows like “BaThtastic” and “design star.” magazines, websites and blogs feature happy home owners gushing over perfect room makeovers. and with the continuing challenging economy, more home owners have decided to stay in their current home longer, which has created higher demand for remodeling. a survey released by the national association of home Builders (nahB) in 2012 shows that common remodeling projects have increased, compared to a similar survey from 2010. and nearly 50 percent of remodelers report seeing an increase in the number of home owners who undertake remodels to avoid moving, compared to the 2010 findings. Bathroom and kitchen remodeling remain the two most common types of jobs, as they have been consistently since 2001. after 2009, however, bathroom and kitchen remodeling switched places—bathrooms became the most frequent type of job for professional remodelers. seventy-eight percent of the survey respondents cited bathroom remodeling as one of the most common jobs, an all-time high. home owners are frequently asking for a high-end spa feel to their new bathrooms, with features and materials such as television screens built into mirrors, exotic wood finishes, recycled glass tiles and sophisticated lighting systems. other popular features include those that enable a home owner to stay in their home as they age; including step-in tubs and shower stall benches and rails. Both kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects were up 17 percent from two years ago. other popular jobs were window and door replacements, room additions, handyman services and whole house remodeling, although whole house remodeling is down significantly from its peak in the mid-2000s. The motivation behind many home owners’ decision to remodel has changed as well. The top two reasons for remodeling were the need to repair or replace old or outdated components and the desire for better and newer amenities. more than 50 percent of remodelers said that these two reasons for remodeling have become more common over the past two years. in contrast, more than 20 percent of remodelers said there was a decrease in customers remodeling to increase home values as an investment or to prepare for a sale (whether distressed or not). Remodeling to accommodate a change in the number of people living in the home also received low scores. Whether they are inspired by the amazing makeovers shown on television shows, or their changing lifestyle necessitates repurposing spaces to make more efficient use of their home’s square footage, home owners are turning to professional remodelers to help improve their home.

Texas Ranch Round Up originally began to replicate the big cattle roundups in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. in 1981 it became the first of hundreds of rodeos that now occur all over north america. The first event committee determined that participating ranches would be full time, historic Texas cattle ranches and that participants would be owners, full time hands and immediate family members. They also determined ranch families shoul be involved out-side the arena to showcase real ranch life and the talents that exist in the families. The committee also devel-oped the rules that are, for the most part, followed throughout ranch rodeos today. The legacy of great Texas Ranches, the integrity of the participants and the ranches dedication to the benefitting charities has made the event successful beyond the wildest dreams of the founding group. The round up is scheduled august 17,18, 2012 at the multi-Purpose event center and includes a festival & trade show, Kids Roundup, Ranch cutting horse association competition, Kids stick horse & Barrel Race, Ranch Roundup arena events, cookin & displayed talent competition, Ranch music skit competition, Ranch Kids Goat marking are just a few. you can also join in on a cowboy church service with susie mcentire sunday at 9:00AM. A full schedule of events and obtain more history about the Texas Ranch Round up please visit their web site listed above.

Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred The cycling community of america can look forward to continued innovation in 2012, GPs mapping, and changes to hell’s Gate. Riders and racers from all over the usa will celebrate the 31st annual hotter ‘n hell hundred on aug. 25, 2012. hhh will continue to excite record numbers of participants and add to their fitness experience. The hotter’n hell hundred is one of the oldest and largest cycling events in the nation. Fitness oriented riders and bicycle racers will come to Wichita Falls, Texas, from virtually every state and several foreign countries. They will set their calendars for the week of aug. 23 – aug. 26, 2012. The official hhh endurance Ride start will be approximately 7:00 a.m. (official sunrise) on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012. The USA Cycling Road Race is Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 with USA cycling criterion racing on Friday and sunday. The hhh will continue to offer a mountain bike race on Friday, august 24, 2012 and a trail run on sunday, august 26, 2012 as well. By the way, the hhh is always 9 days before labor day. Several things happen during the Hotter’N Hell weekend. The activities that comprise the HHH are: Registration, consumer show, spaghetti dinner, usa cycling criterion Race, usa cycling Road Race, the hotter’n hell hundred endurance Ride, an off-Road bicycle race, off-road trail run along with entertainment food and fellowship at the Finish line Village. in other words, hhh is not just one day; it is at least 4 days of challenging and inspiring activities. endurance cyclists will face wind and heat with the help of 4,000 event volunteers on routes up to 100 miles. The hotter’n hell hundred route is rolling with some long inclines accentuated by incessant wind. With the huge consumer products show, off-road mountain biking and usa cycling Races over the weekend, the hotter’n hell offers an awesome start and the greatest weekend on two wheels. if you are going to ride 100 miles, the best place to do it is at the hotter’n hell hundred! People ask what you get when you register for the hhh. it is a grueling day in the sun, so what does a rider get besides sore muscles, tired posterior, sense of accomplishment and several hours of pure cycling madness? There is no answer that fits all. Riders pit themselves against the road and elements for different reasons. What everyone does get is a ride T-shirt and water bottle, goodie bag, free stuff from the consumer show, his or her share of 15,000 gallons of hydration fluid, truckloads of fruit, pickles, thousands of helpers on the route and a hard-earned finisher pin.

In the Month of August the buzz around Wichita Falls tend s to be about the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred and the Texas Ranch Roundup. Both have been entertaining the people of Wichita Falls for over

30 years. Proceeds from both events are designated to help charity organizations. For more information about either of these events and the charities they support you can visit
