• Visit with your child about your family’s summer eating traditions. Does your family eat outdoors more during the summer months? What summer foods do the members of your family enjoy? Plan a family picnic and allow your child to help plan what food and other items will be needed. • With summer coming to an end, try to spend some extra time outdoors with your child. Visit a local park, eat a snack under a shade tree, or take a walk around the neighborhood. Take along a bottle of bubbles and have fun blowing and popping bubbles together! Try out the “Summer Bubble Solution” on the other side of this newsletter. • Reinforce numbers. Count clouds, birds, flower blossoms, trees, cars, etc. with your child as you spend time outdoors together. • Celebrate summer by spending some barefoot time with your child. Walk through the grass with bare feet. Soak your feet in warm, soapy water. Compare your child’s bare feet with your own. Whose are bigger? Whose are softer? Can you both curl your toes? The Playground Sung to “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” I’ve been playing at the playground,Every summer day.I’ve been playing at the playground,Just to pass the days away.I love to ride the teeter-totter,And climb the ladders high.I love to slide down all the big slides,And swing high in the sky!

My Burger Sung to “Pop! Goes the Weasel”

I spice the meat and stir it around.I form it with my hands.I set it aside for Daddy to grill.Look it’s a burger!I place my burger in a bun.I squirt on lots of ketchup.I dropped it and my dog ate it up.Look it’s a goner!Lettuce, mustard, maybe cheeseOr even a tomato.Open wide and take a bite.Look half a burger!

Ingredients: 2 quarts water 3/4 cups Joy liquid dish soap 1/4 cup glycerin (for BIG bubbles!)

Mix ingredients together and let set for at least one day. Store in a sealed container. Clean fly swatters work well as bubble makers. They are easy to manipulate and make MANY bubbles at once! Provide a shallow container, such as a pie pan with a small amount of bubble solution. Show your child how to hold the fly swatter, dip it in the bubble solution, and move it back and forth quickly.
