From the Desk of Father José…..
Today in our Gospel reading from St. Matthew we hear the dialogue between Peter and Jesus about following the Lord. The message is to simply carry our cross and follow Him. However, Peter, like many of us in our daily lives, wanted to have the easy way out and simply avoid diffi-cult situations. The challenging thing about the Gospel for this weekend is that in the interac-tion between Peter and Jesus that one can relate to is that through dialogue, conversation, voic-ing opinion, and even at times, as is shown in the Gospel today, it may be necessary to speak up and voice the truth. Jesus knew His journey. Peter had just been told of his future mission and yet did not get it. Our Lord knows our mission and true identity. As challenging as it may be, let us carry our cross and follow the Lord. No matter what we may be going through, the Lord can help us carry our cross. Let us acknowledge our fears and our moments of doubt as well as complacency. He will help us. This week as I was trying to finish setting our Blessed Sacrament Chapel, I had one of those moments of simply being in dialogue with our Lord. One of our construction guys, who is not of our Faith Tradition, asked me what was inside our New Tabernacle as I was referring to it as HIM. I took a moment to simply reflect, and we talked while I voiced our belief in the True
Presence of Christ. I could tell he was thinking about this as we dialogued. Let us not be tired of sharing our Faith. Let us not be tired of speaking up when injustices are being done. Let us not be complacent about our mission and true identity. We are Blessing our New Tabernacle this weekend. Cardinal Roger Mahony will be blessing it, and it will be live-streamed. As you may recall, during the vandalism of our Church, our Tabernacle was broken. With the passing of months, it became clear it could not be secure, nor could it be repaired. Thank God for the work of so many who have worked in our Blessed Sacrament Chapel and Our Lady’s Chapel. We are able to see now the Tabernacle from the back pew of our Church as we come in, welcom-ing us and continuing to guide us in our Mission. I am looking forward to welcoming you HOME so that you may spend some time in dialogue with HIM.
Gratefully, Fr. José Magaña, V.F. Be at Peace, God will provide.
P.S. Let us pray for the transitions of our parish priests. We say thank you and may God go with you to Fr. Jeff, and we welcome Fr. Jonathan who was just ordained to the priesthood. They both will begin their assignments on September 1, 2020. I am looking forward to our new chapter in the history of St. Charles priestly ministry.

Dear Parishioners, It has been an incredible journey and blessing to be assigned at St. Charles Borromeo. These past four years I learned so much as a priest. I wanted to thank all of you for your support and prayers. It's not easy to say goodbye but know that you will remain in my prayers. I will miss you and I ask that you continue to pray for me as I move to my next assignment. Thank you for everything.
God bless, Fr. Jeff

Dios bendiga, P. Jeff
