We will be doing mostly scraping, painting and caulking but also will need someone with carpentry skills. We will also do some area clean-up. Our work dates are September 20 and 21 with rain dates the following week-end. If you can help please let Charlie Christen-sen know or just get a sign up sheet in the foyer and leave it in Charlie's box or there on the table.

Courtyard Carnival UpdateCourtyard Carnival UpdateCourtyard Carnival UpdateCourtyard Carnival Update We are a welcoming and giving church! On August 17 and 18, VPC opened its doors to hundreds of peo-ple in our community during the annual Trinkets and Treasures rummage sale and the Courtyard Carnival. The hours spent planning, organizing and hosting both events validates our commitment to supporting our church, the preschool, other non-profit organizations, and the community at large. We said hello, shook hands, chatted, learned about new-comers to the community, greeted old friends, offered assistance with moving items purchased, made many children smile, and had a lot of fun. Thanks to all who vol-unteered and worked tire-lessly, made donations, fed the volunteers, shopped at Trinkets and Treas-ures, played the Carnival games, and offered support in other ways. A job well done! Trinkets and Treas-ures earned $2,306.32 to support Welcoming Church Committee projects and Courtyard Carnival earned $120 to support the backpack program.
Did you order mums? The Bicentennial Committee is so appreciative of the generous mum orders. The plants will brighten our "giving thanks" homecoming celebration and help make it very special. Our records indicate that a few people made pur-chases last Sunday, but did not complete the form to designate whether the mum was in memory or in honor of someone or VPC. If you wish to do so, please contact the church office at 873-3491 to pro-vide the details. Thank you!

Did you know that you can get back-to-school items (including COLLEGE TEXTBOOKS) on Ama-zon? Every time you make a purchase on Ama-zon using the church’s link, VPC will receive a por-tion. All you need to do is click on the Amazon link on VPC’s website (www.vpc1.org). This one extra click costs you nothing! Make sure you check their prices before heading out to the store! Thank you for supporting VPC!
Everybody needs a little help once in a while. VPC volunteers are ready to give you an occasional hand with small household pro-
jects, light outdoor tasks and even respite care. Call Penny Evans at
879-8967, or e-mail her at Evanspenelo-
[email protected], and we’ll do our best to
match your need with a volunteer.
Martha Ministry is here when you need it most. More than 35 “Martha Ministers” are ready to help with meals and transportation during illness, in-capacitation or family crisis.
Please call the church office, 873-3491, to con-tact the Martha Ministry program.
Do you know someone who could use a warm hug and a prayer? “Heartstrings” Shawl Ministry has beautiful hand-crafted prayer shawls and chem caps to give to people who are suffering a health crisis, loss of a loved one or other personal hardship. If you know someone who would be touched by a prayer shawl, please contact Melissa Sevier, Lee Ann Christensen or Lois Gaines. Prayer shawl request cards can be found in the literature rack in the Welcome Center, and next to the prayer shawl display in the sanctu-ary. “Heartstrings” is a ministry of the congregational care committee. Please see the shawl display in the front of the sanctuary.
How to support your church by Eating The Kroger Gift card fund raiser is one of the best ways to support the youth at VPC. You can support your church by eating—a truly all-American idea! The program is simple: • Buy a $25 gift card to Kroger from the youth group and use the card to buy groceries.
• Reload more money on the card at the service desk at Kroger or at the checkout register.
• Kroger tracks how much money is spent with the gift card and do-nates 4% to the youth group.
Without spending any more money on groceries than you currently are, you can make a significant contribution to the youth group. In 2012 the youth group received $2,119. Contact Jeff Eller or the church office to purchase your card today.
Flower Calendar Don’t forget that you can sign up to provide Sanctuary flowers. Please check the calendar on the bulletin board by the La-dies’ Parlor, and choose a Sunday you would like to give flowers or greenery (from your own garden or
from a florist). Contact the church office for more information. (Note: Some Sundays may not be available due to liturgical considerations or season-al themes.)
