THE PASTOR’S CORNER In today’s Gospel, Peter expresses his belief that Jesus is the
anointed one and the Son of God. People say that Jesus is
John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, and one of the Prophets.
People are free to believe whatever they want about Jesus,
but Jesus has been carefully preparing his disciples to carry
on his mission. They have heard his teachings and
witnessed his miracles. What they think of Him is critical.
Peter and Apostles first knew Jesus as a man, just as other
people did. Then at some point, they went beyond what
human eye could see and witness to what could be seen only
with the eyes of faith.
“Who do I say Jesus is?” is the fundamental question that
every Christian should ask. The answer must come from our
heart. Peter confesses immediately that Jesus is the
Messiah. How does Peter know this? The answer comes
from deep within. Jesus says to Peter that ‘you are blessed
man because my heavenly Father revealed to you.’ No other
earthly agent can reveal this truth to him. So, he has really
reached the rock bottom of faith and the fundamental trust
of the true discipleship. On that faith, Jesus builds a
community. Jesus asks every one of us the same question.
If people can trust one another at deep level, and they have
faith in Jesus as their Lord, then community can start
building and growing.
construir y crecer.

Melkite Faith and Worship
Authentic Christian faith is always about the
relationship we have with God through Jesus Christ
our Lord. From the beginning local churches have
express that relationship differently in various
liturgies, hymns, theologies, icons and more.
Melkites express their faith in the Byzantine rite. Our
spirituality is that of the Christian East (healing, re-
creation, theosis, etc.) in common with other
Western Churches, Catholic and Orthodox. In
addition, their identity is as Greek Catholics:
Eastern in faith, worship and spirituality but united
to the Church of Rome.

“Or who has given the Lord anything that he may
be repaid?” - ROMANS 11:35
St. Paul reminds us of a central fact of
stewardship. We cannot give the Lord anything -
God already owns it all. God made everything. All
we can do is return a portion of God’s many gifts
back to Him. Sincere gratitude for our gifts opens
our hearts to joyful generosity! Through your
generous sharing, you just may be the answer to
someone’s prayer.
