In the printing industry, there are hundreds of websites, online magazines, and blogs covering the ins and outs of new wide-format inkjet printers, inks, media, software, etc.

And while these media outlets have an important role in the industry, FLAAR Reports is different in that our publications are based on actually knowing the products we write about, AND know the people behind the products.

Also, we are different because our business model does not depend nor includes PR nor advertising. Rather, FLAAR Reports is interested in sponsored research projects that allow us to evaluate the wide-format inkjet printers our readers are interested in.

With almost 20 years evaluating wide-format inkjet printers, inks, media, software, finishing equipment and other aspects of the printing industry, our reports and websites are read by thousands of people a year.

In all of those years we have learned that dedicated reports is the most helpful type of publications for print shop owners, managers and printer operators.

We have visited factories literally around the world to write evaluations on wide-format printers and other related equipment, and these printer brands have received lots of exposure from our web traffic.

For a total evaluation, we prefer to visit the factory and do first-hand print tests as we have done with EFI, Dilli, Durst, HP, and hundred other factories.

But since it takes time to schedule a visit, we normally start by writing a brief evaluation based on inspecting the printer at a sign tradeshow.

A key aspect of our evaluations is doing test prints, either at a tradeshow or in a more complete evaluation in the factory.

Printing our own files helps us determine the quality of a printer because we know what the original file looked like.

Istanbul Reklam Ürünleri is one of the most important distributor companies in Turkey.

But the print test you will see in the following pages have a greater purpose beyond inspecting a wide-format inkjet printer: our designs are educational, because we fly them back to Guatemala to donate them to schools in low-income regions.

Besides being analysts in the print industry, FLAAR has an educational branch conformed by several researchers and designers that illustrate these materials.

Why you should attend Sign IstanbulSign Istanbul is the most important wide-format tradeshow in Turkey and for the future editions, you can expect to see brands like AGFA, EFI, HP, Handtop, Mimaki, Dilli, Partner, etc.

This is the show to network with CEOs and managers of the top distributor companies in the Southeast European region: PIMMS, LiDYA, Istanbul Reklam Ürünleri, ProDigital, and others.

Besides, you can find all types of equipment for the print industry: • UV printers• Textile printers• T-shirt printers• Solvent printers

Also, you can find wide-format CNC routers, cutters, laminators, inks, media, etc. Sign Istanbul also has an interesting section dedicated to 3D printers.

The following is a series of reports that summa-rize the interesting printers, applications and supplies we found on Sign Istanbul 2017.

Because we attend tradeshows around the world, we know Sign Istanbul is one of the key events in the year anyone in the printing indus-try should schedule in their calendars.

Istanbul Reklam ÜrünleriThe name of this company means “Istanbul Advertisement Products”, and is one of the most important dis-tributor companies in Turkey. At Sign Istanbul 2017, the company exhibited several solvent, UV-curing and textile printers, in two adjacent full-sized booths.

These are some of the Partner solvent printers exhibited by Istanbul Reklam Ürünleri. The 3.2-meter solvent printer shown above was the equipment used to print some FLAAR Reports samples.

The Partner MegaJet 5M is a 5-meter roll-to-roll UV-curing printer that was producing a vibrant color gamut, with the best skin tones at Sign Istanbul 2017.

This model can be configured to use UV-curable ink or solvent ink.

As for the printheads, if you opt for solvent ink, you can choose between Konica Minolta 512i (30pl) and 1024 (14pl). If you select UV-curable ink, the printer comes with Konica Minolta 1024i (13pl).

In addition to solvent and UV-curing printers, Istanbul Reklam Ürünleri also sells textile printers (shown above), flatbed CNC routers, inkjet media, LED signage supplies, inks and several other prod-ucts related to the wide-format print and signage industry.

At right you see a “desktop” version of the tradi-tional CNC routers, especially for small projects or for customers who wish to start with an entry-level cutter.

According to its Flickr profile, Istanbul Reklam Ürünleri has been actively exhibiting at major tradeshows since 2004.

FLAAR Mesoamerica has an educational branch called MayaToons, that produce hundreds of illustrations based on the Maya cul-ture.

These materials are not sold. Instead, they are donated to public schools in low-income regions in Guatemala.

This is an ABC printed with a Partner printer at Istanbul Reklam Ürünleri. The colors produced by this printer

were accurate. We know because these fruits and flowers were not taken from stock photos: our photographers shot them in our studio. So we knew what the original photographs looked like.

One of the challenges in the learning process for kids in early grades is the

fact that most books and materials are designed for an audience that

does not reflect the context of kids in rural areas of Guatemala.

This is why the FLAAR Mesoamerica team prepared this ABC based on

local fruits and plants. Each letter is formed with a fruit, vegetable or plant which name begins with the letter it is

representing in this piece.

After we print the samples and certify the color accuracy, we fly them back to Guatemala. Here, Dr. Nicholas Hellmuth speaking in one of the rural schools where this material was donated.
