Prelude Chiming of the Hour Welcome
Introit O God, you are my God, and I will ever praise you. I will seek you in the morning, and I will learn to walk in your ways, And step by step you’ll lead me, and I will follow you all of my days. (Hymn 743)
*Call to Worship
O give thanks to the Lord and call on God’s name. Make known God’s deeds among the peoples. Sing praises to God and tell of all God’s wonderful works. Glory in God’s holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord be glad. Remember the wonderful works God has done, and rejoice in God’s splendor. Let us worship God.
*Hymn 353 My Hope is Built on Nothing Less
*Call to Confession
*Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, you teach us compassion; yet we practice bigotry. You implore us to trust you; yet we create idols. You send Christ as a witness that you will not forsake us; yet we fret over matters as though you cared not at all. Lord, forgive our compulsion to control our own destiny. Look kindly upon us when we fear for our future. Have mercy upon us when we mismanage your grace. May we re-member today and always that we are your people, so that we may help others to also dwell in your promise; through Christ our Lord we pray. (time for silent confession)
And let God’s people say: Amen.
*Assurance of Pardon
*The Peace of Christ
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you. Let us share the peace of Christ with one another.

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, and in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit. We seek to know God's will, to walk in God's ways, and to proclaim the Gospel to all people, by our lives as well as by our words. We work and pray for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of human unity in our time. And we look with faith for the triumph of righteousness in our community and in our world. Amen.

TODAY’S WORSHIP NOTES
Psalm 105 is a psalm of praise that, like Psalms
78, 106, 107, and 136, offers a sweeping account
of God's history with Israel. It is a prime example
of narrative remembrance as a means of praise.
This historical narrative emphasizes God's prom-
ise of the land and God's repeated actions of deliv-
erance by summarizing the Bible's first six books,
in contrast with Psalm 106, which emphasizes the
history of Israel's unfaithfulness.
We welcome Jeffrey Paris as guest preacher this
morning. Jeff is a life-long Presbyterian, currently
a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in King-
ston. He served as a Commissioned Ruling Elder
for eight years, spending most of that time at the
University of Tennessee Presbyterian Center and
Farragut Presbyterian Church. Recently, Jeff
served as a Commissioner the PC(USA) General
Assembly in Detroit.
Jeff and his wife Sherry have two grown daugh-
ters. Paige is an organic farmer in North Carolina
and Megan is an architect in Knoxville. Sherry
and Jeff live on the shores of Watts Bar and wel-
come you to join them for conversation and re-
laxation on the porch.

Your Prayer Chain
First Presbyterian Church has a prayer group ready to lift up your needs in prayer.
In times of illness, the group prays for healing and for God to work through doctors
and nurses, trusting the sick to God’s love and care. Prayers for healing are always
appropriate because God is a God of miracles. In many circumstances prayers are
needed for God’s peace, mercy, and direction, and the trust to know that no matter
what happens God is present and at work. If you have a need, please make your
requests known to Shirley Sauls at 220-9935 or [email protected]. All
requests are kept confidential within the prayer group.
