About “Thoroughly Modern Millie”Filled with fun flappers, dashing leading men, and a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie JR. is a clever adaptation of the six-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical and the Academy Award-winning film. It’s 1922 in New York City and a young Millie Dillmount has just moved to the Big Apple in search of a new life. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. Millie’s wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage, and the man she actually falls in love with doesn't have a dime to his name - or so he tells her. What’s a small town girl to do?

Auditions & CastingAuditions for Blue Water Theatre Company’s production of Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. are open to all actors who are currently students in grades 3 through 8 (2015-2016 school year). Actors who wish to audition should show up to their choice of one of the following two audition times:

Monday, January 4 from 5:00-6:45Tuesday, January 5 from 5:00-6:45

Auditions will be held at Blue Water Theatre Company’s studio in the lower level of the Wayzata Home Center (1250 East Wayzata Boulevard). There are table and chairs in the lobby if parents wish to remain in the building.

Actors do not need to prepare any audition material in advance. Please, however, come to the audition with a completed and signed “Actor Information Sheet” and “Rehearsal Conflict Sheet” to turn in. You will find both of these forms at the end of this packet. Please note that a parent signature is required. Also, please dress for your audition comfortably, in clothes and appropriate footwear in which you are able to freely move and dance.

The final cast list will be posted on the audition page of the Blue Water web site by noon on Friday, January 8.

We intend to cast approximately 35 actors in Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr.. Depending on how many audition — and what our needs are — cuts may be necessary. We will do everything in our power to reasonably take as many kids as possible, but we also want to make sure that we are providing the best experience possible for those that we do cast in the show.

Rehearsals & Attendance ExpectationsRehearsals for Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr. will begin on Monday, January 11 with a full-cast meeting and read-through. Regular rehearsals will generally be held on the following schedule.

Mondays from 5:00-6:45Tuesdays from 5:00-6:45Thursdays from 5:00-6:45

In an effort to be respectful of our actors’ time, we do not call every actor to every rehearsal. A schedule will be emailed to the cast each Saturday or Sunday afternoon detailing the upcoming week’s rehearsal schedule.

We do expect our actors to be at every rehearsal for which they have been called, unless proper notification has been given to the director prior to the weekly schedule being completed and posted. While we recognize that emergency conflicts do arise, the directing team reserves the right to deal with situations appropriately if attendance becomes a major issue.

All regular rehearsals will be held at Blue Water’s studio in the lower level of the Wayzata Home Center (1250 East Wayzata Boulevard).

Dress/Tech Rehearsals & PerformancesWe will have three dress/tech rehearsals and three performances, at which attendance is mandatory. *As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are frequently made aware of grants, matching fund opportunities, or other donations from Minnesota companies and corporations to nonprofits. Often, these opportunities require some connection between the company/corporation and the nonprofit. We are asking parents to share with us the name of their employer so that we are able to identify the individuals who are part of our BWTC community who work for these companies when those opportunities arise. Sharing this information is much appreciated, but totally optional.
