Environment

• Reduce background noises• Close doors/ Windows

• Turn off all unnecessary electronic equipment• PCs / Fans / Speakers / Radio / air-conditioner

• Use a carpeted room• Check chair for squeaks

Equipment setup - levels

• Attach windshield foam • Using the level meters• Test ambient noise level• Test voice level

• Attach tripod to base• Not a hand held Dictaphone

• Extend legs and make safe

Preparation

• Printout with large font • Avoid paragraphs spanning pages

• Practise reading through• Position the recorder

• Correct distance to mouth• Turn OFF your mobile

• Not just on silent• Inform others you are recording to avoid interruptions

Recording

• Press record button• If pause icon is displayed then press record again• Relax and smile and take your time• Identify who you are and section• Avoid moving papers during sentences• Press STOP to finish the recording

Retakes

• We can remove noises but only when you are NOT talking• Pause, announce you are retaking a section• Restart from the beginning of the affected build

• Don’t retake parts of sentences• You don’t have to retake whole sections unless its all

affected, just say what you are doing and repeat from the last paragraph or build.

Playback

• Playback on the device,• > to play
