  • 9 Accurately measure at the top of the panel between the two AXV09 strips that are at the joints.

10 Cut AXH06 component to suit and carefully fit into the rear top edge of the panel.

11 Adjoining panels are mounted in similar sequence.

Note 1. Where perforated acoustic panels are used with IAB (Integrated Acoustic Backing), a minimum 50mm air space must be maintained behind the panels.

Note 2. Successful installation relies on accurate fixing of battens to both wall and panels. A jig is recommended to assist in uniformity and speed of installation.

Note 3. Permanent panel installation can be achieved by injecting construction adhesive onto carrier rail prior to assembly.

XJ1 System – Installation Procedure1 Lay panel face down ensuring that the face of the

    panel is suitably protected.

2 Measure 50mm in from either vertical edge of the panel and mark with a continuous line. Cut AXP161 panel rails to suit. (refer fig.7)

3 Note:Atkar panels are supplied complete with AXP161 channels fitted – this step not normally required.

Screw AXP161 panel rails to the back of the panel @ 300mm maximum screw spacings. Locate these rails at intervals appropriate to panel rigidity (maximum recommended centres – 1m). Accuracy is important. The top edge of AXP161 should be 10mm proud of the top edge of the panel (fig.9), except where panel is abutting ceiling (fig.2 and fig.10). The bottom AXP161 should be approximately 70mm from the bottom edge of the panel.

4a If AMC061 carrier rail centres are to be greater than 400mm attach 100mm long AMC061 pieces mid-span to rear of panel along 50mm line 1 side only (marked at step 2), to support AXV09 vertical infill, refer

b Alternatively, if panels are to be continuous height (top to bottom), vertical infill strips may be screwed to panel rear along 50mm line.

5 Screw fix continuous lengths of AMC061 carrier rail to support wall structure at centres to match panel rails, ensuring accurate levels and spacings are maintained. (A layout jig is recommended to assist in accuracy of layout).

6 Panel weight should be shared equally by all channels. In order to achieve this, all channels should be packed to accommodate installation discrepancies. Alternatively, one channel only may be packed and the clearance on the remaining channels can be taken up by injecting a short bead of construction adhesive at regular intervals into the recess at the top of the carrier rail.

7 Hang the panel in position on the wall, locating AXP161 onto the AMC061 carrier rail.

8 Unless AXV09 vertical infills have been screwed to the panel rear (step 4b), these should now be cut to the length of the total panel height and inserted between AMC061 carrier rail and the panel. Press fully home to locate edge rebate over AMC061 infil supports.

  • Au.diMount BJ2 System - for walls Introduction

The Au.diMount BJ2 System utilises the AMC061 component to provide an economical concealed fix, wall panel mounting split batten. This low profile batten is ideal for butt jointed panel applications. Where expressed jointing is required, the XJ1 System is recommended, although the BJ2 System can be used providing the panels are not mounted directly onto open stud framing.

Note - Minimum recommended panel thickness - 12mm

Features– Fully concealed fixing– Low profile– Easily demountable– Suitable for curved walls

(Not suitable for some patterns. Consult Atkar technical staff).

IntroductionAu.diMount PS3 allows for the secret fixing of interior perforated timber ceiling panels either in a suspended configuration using standard furring channel system components, or directly fixed to the sub-structure.

Treatment of the expressed joint is catered for by the integral perimeter infill strips allowing for a wide range of joint sizes. (Recommended range is 6mm to 50mm wide) When combined with the ability to select the joint infill finish the jointing system of the PS3 system allows scope for the designer to customize the panel articulation.

    Note – minimum panel thickness – 12mm.

Features– Concealed fixings– Simple installation– Integral expressed joint infill detail– Panels can be removed and reinstalled– Compatible with most standard suspended

ceiling systems– Integral access hatch system available

(details available on request)– Fully tested and approved system

Variations– Variable joint width– Large range of joint infill finishes

Design Criteria– Suitable for timber substrate panels– Compatible with perforated panels only– Requires minimum 6mm wide perforations– 12mm minimum panel thickness– Recommended for interior use only

This table provides a general fixing guide for residential and commercial applications.

Consideration should be given to reduced framing centres for higher impact areas such as corridors and crowded places or where panels are to be curved.

Attention: The method of fixing indicated is of a general nature only and does not allow for specific design criteria such as wind loads, expansion joints or any other special design requirements which should be separately provided for by the specifier.

    PS3 - Installation Procedure

1 Au.diMount PS3 fixing points are located along the length of a panel, typically in 3 rows. Support framing (ie furring channels) must be orientated to run in the same direction as the panel fixing strip.

2 Prior to construction of the support framing system, the entire ceiling should be set out in a grid format, bearing in mind location of the fixing points as determined by the nominated panel layout. It is recommended that the set-out is conducted from the centre of the room. The location of light fittings and other service items needs to be considered so as to avoid cutting through any of the framing members or panel fixing points.

NB It is important that the layout grid is kept square and accurate to avoid complications with the panel installation.

3 Joint infill strips are pre-fitted to 2 adjacent sides of the panels only. Panel orientation should be

determined, and infill strips attached to the 2 adjacent walls abutting the panel sides not fitted with infill strips (Refer fig 3)

4 Once the infill strips have been attached, panel installation should commence from this corner – as determined in step 3 above. Use care to align all panels with the panel layout grid.

5 The TH 7x25 (black) fixing screws should be installed through one of the panel perforations at 300mm maximum centers, ensuring that the screw passes through the fixing strip with sufficient material around the screw head to gain full support. Do not over-drive the screw.

6 Adjoining panels are mounted in a similar sequence, making minor adjustments to the expressed joint width where necessary to accommodate any tolerance discrepancies.

7 When all panels have been installed, check adjoining panels for ‘flushness’ and check all expressed joints for alignment, making adjustments where necessary.

PS3 - De-mounting procedureIt is not recommended that panels be de-mounted and re-installed by unqualified personnel. Any lack in knowledge of the system could lead to system failure. To de-mount a panel, screws need to be located and removed from within the perforations and the panel slid back and down. This will usually require two men. Re-installation of the panels is the reverse of the above. It is very important that the screws be fixed back through the fixing strips. Failure to properly secure the panel through all mounting strips could lead to system failure and panel dislodgement.
