QUESTION 1 – ARE YOU MALE OR FEMALE?

Question was a general introduction to our questionnaire by asking the participants what gender they are. This helps us get a broader view of the results of where the participants are coming from. With 54 responses (up to date, now closed), there was 19 Male responses, and 35 Female responses. This shows that there were 16 more responses from more females than males. However, this may create the questionnaire less reliable, as there is a more general population of more male viewers than female viewers in grime music. There could be more of a turn-out of more males than females because we sent this questionnaire in email to those in our sixth form, the boys may not have had time to go onto their emails to check if there was a questionnaire we had sent out. Another reason why they may not have filled it out because other groups also sent out their questionnaires, therefore they may not have seen our questionnaire, or that they had already felt as if they filled out enough questionnaires as much as they could. However, because we don’t know the identity, they may not be female, for those who say they were. This lowers the validity.

QUESTION 2 – HOW OLD ARE YOU?

This question could have been improved as it gave us invalid answers, This question was asking the participants how old they are, but it was a open question. This enabled the participants to disclose their age, but some participants did not want to disclose their age. Answers ranged from 16-39 years of age; which we know is not true. This lowers the validity because they are not disclosing their actual age. They could have done this to keep their identity hidden. Most of the correspondents however did reveal approximately their real age, however we do not know if it could be a deception. If I were to design this question again; I would make it a multiple choice question, to get more reliable answers.

QUESTION 3 – WHAT GENRE OF MUSIC DO YOU PREFER?

This question asked the correspondents which music genre they would prefer. Other was answered the most frequently with 31% responses, following by R’n’B with 18% responses. However grime only had 7% of the share which is what our music video will be based on. This shows that the participants are more interested in other genres. In other, the correspondents had variety of answers such us ‘ anything with a good tune’ or ‘indie music’. This could affect our data in the future data, as they may low knowledge on the genre we decided to choose for our music video. Next time if I were to do this question again, I would make it multiple choice, so that it gives us all the different types of music that our participants are generally into it. Because this question is one-choice multiple choice, they didn’t have the choice to pick more than one.

QUESTION 4 – HOW DO YOU ACCESS MUSIC VIDEOS?

According to the data, 67% of our target audience access their music videos thoroughly through their mobile devices. This is probably because of apps such as YouTube on the internet that make it faster to stream/watch music videos. Laptop/Computer came second with 20% of the responses. This could be because they may not have a mobile device of their own, so they access music videos on their computer. YouTube have agreements with artists such as Taylor Swift that they have a Vevo channel where their music videos get uploaded onto. This makes it easier for those who subscribe to access music videos quicker. Those who said other came up with answers that were invalid such as ‘ watching it on apple devices at apple shop’.

QUESTION 5 – DO YOU USE YOUTUBE TO ACCESS YOUR MUSIC VIDEOS?

We placed this question in our questionnaire because we will use YouTube to promote and distribute our music video. Predominately Yes was answered the most with a 94% answered rate. This shows that YouTube is the foundation of where music videos are placed onto the world wide web for everybody to access. Those who do not use YouTube may use different platforms such as Twitter, or may not even watch music videos as a whole. They could watch it on the television, but we are in the online age. The reason why we want to put our music video onto YouTube is because we could share it on social media to gain a wider audience, and improve our media skills.

QUESTION 6 - WHICH ELEMENTS OF MUSIC VIDEOS APPEAL TO YOU THE MOST? This is where we the questionnaire was going to help us

find out what our target audience enjoy about music videos. This was a one-choice multiple-choice question. Strong narratives were the most common answer, with 37% response rate. Choreography & Performances were on a fairly similar responses, but choreography edges it with 1 more response. Appealing guys/girls had a 9% share of the responses, and interesting locations had 11% of the responses. Other obtained answers such as ‘good editing, oppression of females and good use of cinematography’. This makes it clear that the audiences is more interested in the narrative of the music video. However, a problem with this question that the participants only allowed one answer, which reduces the validity.

QUESTION 7 - THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP. WE DECIDED TO CREATE A GRIME MUSIC VIDEO. IF SO, WHICH ELEMENTS DO YOU ENJOY SEEING IN THIS GENRE?

This was a more leading question for our benefit. Because we are making a music video targeted towards their age group they could give us ideas what we could possibly include. 45% said that they enjoy seeing multiple locations, which shows that our original idea of using multiple locations will be an element that our target audience will enjoy. Choregraphed had 32% response rate, which shows that people enjoy seeing this in music video. In other, there were answers such as drugs, fake money thrown around, storylines and clues. As a group, we will choose which element will be our main focus in our music video, and how we will attract the audience. I would change the ‘girl’ option in this question as not everybody prefers to see the sexualisation of women in videos; it could also be men.

QUESTION 8 - IF YOU LIKE KREPT & KONAN, DO YOU LIKE THE MUSIC VIDEO 'MY STORY'? IF YES, PLEASE BRIEFLY COMMENT ON WHY THEY APPEAL TO YOU AS ARTISTS.

This was going to give us a clearer idea of wha the perception of our audience view Krept and Konan, and the original music video. This question was very close in-terms of data. No had the most responses with 30% of responses. This could be because that the music video contains gun violence, and could not be age appropriate. There was 24% response for yes, but was not the popular choice. As a group we thought this would be higher because in the comment session of the original music video, there were very sympathetic responses from the audience. In other, there were responses that varied from ‘touching story’ to ‘build a wall’’?? This made our question ;ess valid & reliable. A limitation could be that the participants may have gotten bored of answering questions so they were going through rushing so they could finish quicker.

QUESTION 9 - WE ARE GOING TO MAKE A MUSIC VIDEO FOR THEIR SONG “MY STORY” (IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN IT, CLICK HERE). DO YOU THINK THE NARRATIVE SUITS THE LYRICS AND MOOD OF THE SONG? IF YES, PLEASE BRIEFLY EXPLAIN WHY.

This question was a pinnacle question, as it showed us their views of the original video. 48% of the entire population says yes, meaning that our music video must steer away form the main elements of the original music video, and improve on the areas that needs improving. 42% of the audience says don’t know, meaning they probably did not understand the question, or did not want to answer it. This decreases the validity or the reliability of the response. 9% of the respondents said no. However, there were 2 participants that skipped the questions, affecting the reliability.

QUESTION 10 - FINALLY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE US CREATE SOMETHING RADICALLY DIFFERENT IN OUR MUSIC VIDEO? WE MAY TAKE THE GOOD IDEAS INTO CONSIDERATION AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE CREDITED, PLEASE NOTE YOUR NAME DOWN. This question allowed our participants to answer freely

what the question is asking of them. Answers were ranging from all over the place, which allowed us to review them; and take them into consideration. However, many people (38 to be exact) skipped this question because it may have been very long for them to fill out; and they begun to get tired.
