Audience research- UK music magazines

Page 2: Audience research

I made an survey on Survey Monkey about music magazines. I wanted to find out more about my audience and what they like to read about in a music magazine.

My responses will be influenced by the fact that I am an Media Studies student, and most of my responses would be by my other classmates.

What is your gender?

Based on the result on this question, I am going to aim my music magazine more towards females than man. I would do this, by using bright colors with a clean and tidy finish.

My audience target:

Female: • 73% - 19 people

Male: • 23% - 6 people

Other:• 4% - 1 person

The result on this question, could be explained by the fact that there are more girls in my media class, and the fact that I have more girl-friends than boy-friends.

How old are you?

My audience target: 16-24 years old:• 96% - 25 people

25-32 years old:• 4% - 1 person

The result on this question tells me that I should aim my magazine to young adults and teenagers, rather than older people. Therefore I am going to write about music and stuff teenagers are interested in.

As on the other question, the result could be explained by the fact that my friends and my classmates are 17 or 18 years old.

Do you buy music magazines?

The result on this question is quite mixed but overall, most people only buy music magazines sometimes or not at all.If I want to make a good magazine, which appeals to “my audience”, I need to find out what content they would like, so that the blue bar gets lower, and the green/yellow gets higher.

My target audience:

Yes:8% - 2 people

No:62% - 16 people

Sometimes:31% - 8 people

My audience target:

Weekly:• 14% - 2 people

Monthly:• 29% - 4 people

Just when I see a magazine that I like:• 43% - 6 people

Other:The two people who picked the option “other”, specified their answer with “never” and “I don’t buy”.

Other (Hip-hop):• 4% - 1 person

The result on this question, tells me that my audience is most interested in pop music. Which emphasizes the fact that I want and should make a pop related music magazine. I will have to include some rock music, and maybe some R&B music in my magazine as well.

Do you go to concerts and festivals?

My audience target:

Yes, I go to concerts and festivals: • 56% - 14 people

My audience target:

New artists:• 31% - 8 people

My audience target:

Online:• 27% - 7 people
