Transcript of Audience representation of opening sequence

I can use specific examples to discuss how I represent social groups in my production

We intended to represent our news reporter as formal. The news reporter has a mug, desk and laptop in which are typical props used in a news report. It also shows that the character is organised due to the use of positioning of the props. For example we used a sophisticated backdrop with a logo. Also you can tell that the character is fairly important as she is wearing a white shirt and blazer. The audience feedback showed us that they can relate to the news reporter as people have seen it before, she is a stereotypical news reporter.

Pamela is seen as more upper class. For example the camera angle is slightly high angle in which shows she is more wealthy, she appears to look bigger than Chloe. Pamela’s costume is a blazer and glasses which shows she is intelligent. Pamela’s character creates a negative stereotype as she is shown as rude because she has money which makes her think she is higher than Chloe. Pamela also comes across as rude as she interrupts Chloe during the interview. We could have made it more obvious on how rich the character was by adding jewellery and an expensive bag.

We intended to make the character Chloe appear as venerable. The low key lighting behind the character shows that there is something bad is going to happen to her. Also the characters choice of a red jumper shows that she is in danger as people would connote the colour red with danger. From the audience feedback we found out that people could relate to her as she is just the average women.

We intended to make the character be represented as dangerous and to play the character of the villain. For example the character is wearing dark colours in which connote that it is negative and also shown as death. As you cant tell who the stalker is or what gender it gives the story mystery. We could have represented this better if the stalker seemed more scary where as in the opening sequence it just looks like a normal person walking round at night. Maybe if we showed more close ups of the character it would represent it better.
