We used Survey Monkey to create our Questionnaire.

This is how the survey looks.

Page 4: Audience Feedback

• To distribute our survey we mainly emailed friends who were within the age range to be able to take part in the survey, therefore we used an opportunity sample.

• We found that although creating a survey, collecting and analysing the data is a lot easier, faster and more efficient through using the internet, it still had a low response rate. That possibly could have been due to the short period of time that we had the survey open for or it could have been that we did not distribute the survey into enough places. Putting the link up on networking sites such as Facebook could have boost the rate of response.

What have We learned from our Audience feedback?

As you can see the majority of participants of our survey were between the age of 16 to 20. This could mean that this is the age group that take the most interest or are more likely to participate in online surveys than any other age group, whereas others might be more interested in using a different medium to take the survey such as short paper surveys like in restaurants.

From this we learnt that how we distribute our products will have a big impact on the size of our audience as well as the type of audience we have.

The results for this question showed us that animation is not just for young children. Whether its to keep in touch with a persons inner child or for education or just for entertainment, everyone enjoys watching animation no matter what age they are.

These results reflect on why the audience watch animation films. It is mainly for entertainment. 50% chose answer A, which shows that they prefer a comedy and 58.3% chose answer D, which could mean the audience want to watch something unpredictable because they prefer to watch a variation of things instead of having the same narrative structure all the time. They like change and maybe even want to escape into a world where they can let there imagination grow or run wild. Having that element of surprise or mystery attracts the audience. As you can see from the responses for answer C (0%), having a predictable story line is pointless as people already know what’s going to happen.

• The results of this question illustrate how the audience prefer animation to be something comical and of fantasy than to be serious or carry a controversial issue. A full length animation film is mainly for entertainment whereas animation series such as South Park or Family Guy allow the expression of debatable issues.

• In this area the results are very similar so we can see that people don’t prefer or favour a certain feature in animation but they do like a variation, although ‘Flash backs’ received no responses so this feature could be seen as out dated or out of fashion because technology is continuously changing so new features, ideas or effects appear all the time.

• Question 8 was ‘How do you think the animations produced by this institution represents young people of your age?’ Most people said young people are represented positively others said they are represented as ‘funny, stupid, rebellious and bullies’ and some said there could be more teenagers in animations than young children. So people are not too bothered about the representation of young people in animations. However, for those who do have more of an opinion on this want young people to be shown more realistically, as you can see through the next question ‘Are you happy with this representation?’ Where one of the responses were:

• This last question in the survey shows that all audience would like the animation characters to be more like them probably so they themselves can relate to the character whether it’s appearance, social class or age wise or even intellectually.
