Audi at Fleet Management Live

Progress News

Autumn/Winter 2016 | 07

New team members join Audi Fleet

Two brand new models made their UK fleet

debuts on the Audi stand at Fleet Management

Live at the NEC, Birmingham, in October.

Organised by leading fleet industry title

Fleet News, Fleet Management Live gave fleet

decision makers an unrivalled opportunity

to see the latest vehicles, meet with new

and prospective suppliers, and develop their

knowledge in a series of best-practice seminars

The event was the first opportunity for the

industry to see the all-new A5 Sportback and

the new Q2. Both shared the Audi stand with the

new A3 Sportback e-tron and A4 Avant, forming

an imposing centrepiece at the show.

The all-new A5 Sportback which, as well as

the all-new A5 Coupé, is available to order now,

impressed visitors with its sleek looks and wide-

ranging infotainment, driver assistance and

safety technologies.

Its striking Vegas yellow paint finish

meant the new Audi Q2 display attracted plenty

of interest ahead of the model’s November

showroom debut. The Q2 embraces the

brand’s newest design direction, with rugged,

purposeful styling and outstanding technology

and communications highlights. And with CO2

emissions as low as 114g/km, it capitalises on

growing demand for small crossovers.

Audi’s e-tron plug-in hybrid technology

continues to see strong demand from drivers

looking to reduce their Benefit-in-Kind tax

liabilities, and the stand showcased the new

A3 Sportback e-tron.

James Douglas, Head of Audi Fleet, said:

“Fleet Management Live is really important

for us as there is a broad representation of the

industry here. For me, it’s critical that there is no

driving at the event as fleet decision makers visit

to learn and to talk to suppliers.

“We were very pleased to meet everyone

who came on to our stand, whether they were

existing clients with whom we could build

relationships, or potential new customers,”

concluded Douglas.

Lisa PlaterFleet Manager, East Anglia region

Lisa Plater knows her customers well and,

for that matter, the Audi range too. There’s

not much that can top over ten years’

experience as a Centre-based Local Business

Development Manager, and that’s what Lisa

is bringing to her new role as Fleet Manager

of the East Anglia region at Audi UK.

A self-confessed Audi enthusiast, Lisa,

joined Audi UK from Stansted Audi in March

this year, so in a sense she’s keeping it ‘in the

family’ as the Centre will still be on the agenda

being located centrally in her sales area.

“My experience at Stansted Audi has

given me great insight into the needs and

wishes of customers – some of whom I have

known for many years – in the East Anglia

region,” she says.

“But while I’m looking forward to

working with existing clients, I’m relishing

the prospect of meeting new customers as

part of our broader philosophy of providing

the best-possible service to the benefit of

our customers.”

Daryl Barlow

Fleet Manager, NW England/Wales region

After five solid years developing finance and

insurance performance within Volkswagen

Van Centres across the North of England and

Scotland, Daryl Barlow has a great foundation

working within premium brands.

“I developed excellent relationships within

the van centre network but after five years I

really missed interacting with the end-user.

“The transition to Audi has been seamless,

the people and the culture are fantastic and

the products speak for themselves.”

As you might imagine Daryl is a deep-

seated Audi enthusiast.

“I’ve always admired the brand and it’s

really rewarding to be able to work with

products that are so well-received and so

highly respected.

“I’m excited to have joined at a time when

Audi is updating and growing its range. The

technology in the cars is amazing and with

new models such as the Q2 and the all-new

A5 Sportback now available it should be a

very busy time ahead.”

Chris Stephens

Fleet Manager, SW England/S Wales region

Ultra-marathon runner Chris Stephens comes

to Audi UK after 11 years spent in the contract

hire and leasing industry – experience that’s

given him a deep understanding of the

advantages of leasing.

Making the switch from service to

product sales has been easy for Chris: “I’ve

always loved Audi,” he says, “and having

the fantastic opportunity to work here is

incredible,” he says.

“Electrification is high on the list of

questions I am asked most often, so it’s great

to be able to talk about Audi e-tron and the

benefits it can offer.

“Technology is right up there, too, and

it’s always good to discuss the enhanced

safety features of our driver assistance and

connectivity developments.”

It all helps Chris’ ability to ‘go the extra

mile’ in his role, and if you're curious over that

claim, consider that ‘ultra marathon’ involves

running any distance over 26.2 miles – and

the last one for Chris was 72 miles non-stop...

The all-new A5 Sportback It’s lighter, sleeker, more spacious and loaded with impressive new technology

Preview All-new Audi A5 and S5 Sportback

Autumn/Winter 2016 | 09

Seven years ago, the Audi A5 Sportback carved its

own niche and became a design icon in its own right.

Blending dynamic, sporting flair with stunning

road presence, it offered unprecedented five-door

practicality under beautiful coupé-like lines.

Now, the all-new A5 Sportback is here, and it’s

set to define its sector again with even sleeker looks,

technologically advanced driver assistance and

infotainment features, completely re-engineered

suspension and a range of highly efficient engines.

Dynamic, sporty new styling

The all-new A5 Sportback adopts Audi’s latest single

frame grille, with flatter, broader looks complementing

the exterior’s sharp contours and athletic lines.

With five doors in a sporty coupé silhouette, the

all-new A5 Sportback is true to the model’s origins, yet

introduces unmistakably contemporary style.

The body structure uses ‘intelligent’ state-of-the-

art lightweight materials and construction methods to

reduce weight without compromising rigidity.

It means the all-new A5 Sportback is lighter by

up to 85kg compared with the previous model – as low

as 1,470kg excluding the driver and depending on trim .

Luxurious interior; exceptional connectivity

Inside, the all-new A5 Sportback adopts the ‘horizontal’

design style first seen in the new A4, with high-quality

materials, solid build integrity, fit and finish in keeping

with Audi’s outstanding reputation.

Optional ambient lighting offers 30 colours for

a fitting interior mood, while connectivity highlights

include Audi Smartphone Interface, Audi Connect and

optional Audi Virtual Cockpit.

There’s more space than before, too: the interior

offers 11mm more shoulder room for driver and front

passenger, and 24mm more rear knee room.

TFSI and TDI engines, with quattro available

At launch the all-new A5 Sportback is available with

quattro and front-wheel-drive with a 2.0 TDI 190PS1

Athletic, coupé-like lines blend with the

practicality of five doors in the unmistakable

silhouette of the all-new A5 Sportback

Page 6: Audi National Fleet Team At Audi, Progress · James.Douglas@audi.co.uk Jo Elliott Future Mobility Programmes Manager 01908 601667 ext 2667 ... CV1-12, CV21-47, DE12, DY, GL1-4, GL10,

engine and S tronic transmission. It is joined

by a 2.0 TFSI 252PS1 engine, while the all-new

S5 Sportback is powered by a 3.0 TFSI 354PS1

engine. Later, a 3.0 TDI engine with a choice of

218PS1 or 286PS1 joins the all-new A5 Sportback

range, as well as a 2.0 TDI ultra 190PS1.

The four-cylinder 2.0 TDI 190PS engine is

available with either front-wheel-drive or quattro

all-wheel-drive, and, with S tronic transmission,

0-62mph takes just 7.4secs1.

Meanwhile, the forthcoming 2.0 TDI 190PS1

ultra models will make the most of optimised

aerodynamics and suspension, modified gear

ratios and low-rolling-resistance tyres to achieve

up to 68.9mpg1 on the combined cycle, with

CO2 emissions as low as 108g/km1.

The 2.0 TFSI 252PS S tronic models can

cover 0-62mph in just 6.0secs1, yet achieve up

to 47.8mpg1 on the combined cycle with CO2

The considered choiceAs leading industry suppliers of premium kitchen components, PWS Distributors chose Audi to enhance its image and reputation

Company profile PWS Distributors Ltd

Autumn/Winter 2016 | 13

When your business is all about delivering

the best quality to customers, it makes you

appreciate the same attention to detail in

every other aspect of your working life.

It’s this expectation of the highest

standards that steered premium kitchen

supplier PWS Distributors Ltd towards

Audi as its key company car provider.

A simpler, more structured approach

“Until two years ago, our company car

policy was a bit jumbled,” says Jonathan

Whisker, Finance Director at PWS.

“We had a mix of makes and models

and it wasn’t really working, so we adopted

a policy for a single supplier for simplicity

and structure, as well as to save money.

“Audi came out head and shoulders

above the others in our selection process,

not only for the quality of the cars but

also the clear communication from the

team that came to see us.

“It gave us the confidence to sign

up for a two-year contract, which is now

nearing its end, and there’s no question

we’ll sign a three-year deal to continue.”

At present, Newton Aycliffe-based

PWS has 36 Audi models on the road,

including three A3 Sportback e-trons,

with a new S3 on order.

“The e-trons make absolute sense for

us as a business and for their drivers. The

BIK tax advantages alone see to that, but

just as importantly they are really good

cars to drive and project the right image

for our company,” says Jonathan.

Delivering the right image

With 290 staff, PWS supplies kitchen,

bathroom and bedroom components to UK

manufacturers, retailers and installers

Another part of the operation builds

bespoke worktops from granite, wood and

Corian® Solid Surfaces.

It means PWS sales staff need cars that

can accommodate door samples, worktops

and other lines.

Jonathan says: “Practical considerations

like this are important as not every car can

take all of these items and deliver comfort

with low running costs.”

Most of PWS’ fleet is financed on contract

hire, including all servicing and maintenance,

through Newcastle Audi. Some, however, are

bought outright if the driver covers a high

mileage; 100,000 miles is not unusual for

some staff over three years.

A partnership for success

The relationship with Newcastle Audi has

proved very positive, and Jonathan has

nothing but praise for Ella Longmore, the

Local Business Development Manager.

“Ella provides a single point of contact

with in-depth knowledge of the cars and our

needs,” enthuses Jonathan. “Whether it’s

ordering a new car or arranging servicing,

Ella and her team make it straightforward.

Nothing is too much trouble.”

Currently, PWS is looking at installing

electric vehicle charging points for the

existing A3 Sportback e-trons.

While the move to hybrid power

represents a shift in the mix of cars on the

PWS fleet, it’s important that standards

remain consistent.

Jonathan concludes: “The company

has been around since 1909 and is

now in its fourth generation of family

ownership. That’s quite unusual in this

day and age, but we’re here because we

believe in delivering the best quality to our

customers. With Audi, we have a partner

that shares that passion.”

“Audi came out head and shoulders above the competition in our selection process,” says Jonathan Whisker, Finance Director at PWS Distributors Ltd, pictured with two Audi models from the fleet

The driver view

PWS Purchasing Manager Mervyn Jones

drives an A4 2.0 TDI S line and is a big

fan of the switch to Audi.

“You can’t fault the Audi range

for the way the cars are built and the

comfort of the interiors. Whether you’re

commuting to the office or driving

further away for business, you get there

feeling good and relaxed.”

His role means Mervyn is also acutely

aware of cost and this is another area

where he praises the A4:

“It has all the power you’d expect

of a car of this type, yet it’s very easy

on fuel and great to drive. Overall, I’m

really pleased we have moved to Audi

for our company cars.”

The new Audi A3: rebirth of an icon New looks, new engines, upgraded interiors and enhanced technology mark out the new Audi A3 and S3 family, now available to order

New models The new Audi A3 and S3 range

Autumn/Winter 2016 | 15

Stylish new looks. New technology. Enhanced

connectivity. Extensive personalisation opportunities –

they’re all at the heart of the new A3 family, available now.

Every A3 and S3 model – A3, Sportback, Saloon and

Cabriolet – now benefits from a fresh new look, more

equipment, a revitalised engine line-up and state-of-the-

art technology.

A striking new Black Edition trim is also now available

on A3 and S3 as well as Sportback and Saloon body styles.

Sharper, bolder design

A broader, more defined single frame grille identifies the

new A3 and S3 family, while new headlights with more

prominent outer contours offer either Xenon (SE and

Sport) or LED (S line and S3) illumination.

New alloy wheels on SE and Sport join LED daytime

running lights as standard across the range, and there

are five new exterior colours to choose from.

At the rear, a redesigned bumper and new ‘3D’ light

clusters make for a more purposeful road presence, and

the Saloon’s profile has a more emphatic side ‘wing’

feature to the bodywork.

The S line’s wider rear diffuser is sub-divided into

three chambers and finished in matt black, while the

new S3 has a dramatic U-shaped additional air inlet

under the grille emphasising its sporty character.

New technology, refreshed interiors

The innovative Audi Smartphone Interface is now

standard, while a more intuitive MMI control logic

Instantly identified by its broader and more defined single frame grille and imposing front and rear styling, the new A3 family also features new headlights with Xenon or LED illumination and new alloy wheels

system with 7˝ screen and the optional Audi Virtual

Cockpit headline the changes to the new A3’s interior.

Audi Smartphone Interface integrates with Apple

CarPlay® and Google Android Auto® to display your

smartphone content such as music, approved Apps

and messages on the car’s MMI screen.

Drivers can customise the optional Audi Virtual

Cockpit, with ‘classic’ view giving a more prominent

speedometer and rev counter. The ‘infotainment’ setting

brings up functions such as the navigation map or media

on the 12.3˝ MMI screen.

A new three-spoke steering wheel – flat-bottomed

on S line models – with gear-shift paddles for S tronic

transmission, new-look dash air vents and a choice of

new upholsteries complete the interior updates.

New engines, enhanced efficiency

The new A3’s engine line-up comprises two TFSI and

three TDI units with peak outputs ranging from 110PS to

190PS, while the new S3’s 2.0 TFSI unit sees maximum

power rise from 300PS to 310PS.

A new 1.0 TFSI 115PS engine is the entry option

in the A3 and A3 Sportback, offering combined fuel

consumption of up to 62.8mpg and CO2 emissions as

low as 104g/km. That enables BIK taxation to start in

the 17% band in 2016/17.

Joining the advanced 1.4 TFSI 150PS engine, with

its innovative Audi cylinder-on-demand technology, is a

completely new 2.0 TFSI 190PS unit, available in Sport,

S line and Black Edition models with front-wheel-drive or

quattro all-wheel-drive.
