Dear Families,

Trivia Night on June 29th will be the major school fundraiser for

2018. The Fundraising Committee has chosen a family event

this year and look forward to all families supporting the

evening. Get your tables together and book your tickets and

food platters. Your support allows great programs to continue. Thank You to everyone who supported the students to run the

Gourmet Market Stall. They did a great job and we are very

proud of their efforts and parent support.

Simultaneous Story Time was held last Wednesday, Tyson and

Lucas did an excellent job of reading the story to everyone.

The Norwood Morialta Year 11 and 12 Band led by Mr David

Fawcett performed for us last Wednesday at school. It was

great to see student musicians performing confidently and

enjoying what they do.

SAKGP - The cooking and gardening are in full swing. Check

out the garden—it is looking amazing! The children are

planting, harvesting and cooking enthusiastically. One more

parent helper for the Junior Primary class on Thursdays would

allow more hands on activities. I will send out a roster as an

invite to volunteer occasionally. Please consider giving your

time.

Hi,

I visited the kids produce stall at The Hub at Clare during the Gourmet Weekend.

What a great initiative! The kids were so polite and enthusiastic and the produce (which I have enjoyed since) is first class!

I am writing because I work in the Home Assist Program at City of Salisbury and we regularly take small groups of (6 – 8) older people on day trips. I am wondering if the kids have a stall offering their wares to the public at other times. If it were possible, I would love to bring one of our groups for a visit.

Regardless, thank you for the gorgeous plum jam I have been enjoying since the weekend!

Gourmet Weekend Market 2018

Thank You to everyone who helped to make this

another successful market event. Auburn Primary School is well supported by families,

community groups and members.

As a warm up for Maths each day, we do a thinking problem. Some of our favourite activities come from a website called www.solvemoji.com.

There are different kinds of problems to solve for people of all different levels. One that we had last week looked so easy, but was actually very

tricky.

We wanted to share it with you. Here is the problem and we will put the correct answer in the next newsletter.

We have started learning about the First Fleet. We are going to share

our learning with Miss Hazel’s Class at Catalunan Pequeno Elementary School in Davao in the Philippines. This is the school where we sponsor a child for AFFLIP.

They are going to share their learning with us about how the

Philippines was first settled as well.

We are looking forward to learning from each other.

We have already learnt that being a poor person living in London in the 1700s was horrible.

If families would like to donate

their food scraps to feed our

hungry chooks feel free to empty a

bucket or two into the chook yard.

On Wednesday the 23rd of May, the YEL group went to the 2nd Forum of the year at Hart Field Site near Blyth where we learned mainly about soils. Firstly we went to a newly dug soil pit, went into it and saw all the different layers of the soil. A map showed the different soil types in regional South Australia and containers of soil and dirt from different towns.

After recess we did a few different activities using soil, including an erosion activity where we learned about the different types of erosion and demonstrated them in a small range.

In the next activity we learned about the different soils and their different behaviours when wet. We learned by

playing with the soils and trying to roll snakes. We learned that different textured soil behaves differently. Clay held together well and allowed us to make really long snakes, whereas the sand didn’t.

The last activity was the soil food web where we learned about nematodes and other animals that live under soil.

We've done many different activities over the last few

weeks.

Using Autumn leaves we made a

hedgehog.

The children decorated a wooden love

heart box for Mother's Day.

D u r i n g N a t i o n a l

Reconciliation Week we painted

dot paintings on bark and learnt

some of the symbols they use and

the Aboriginal flag.

Week 5 will be my last session for this term as I'm

going overseas to see my family in the

Netherlands. I haven’t seen them for 4 years.

Amanda Phillips, who most of you will know as a

relief teacher, will do the sessions for the rest of term

2. Thanks Amanda for taking this on

board!
