The House on the Rock Resort is located just a short drive from The House on the Rock Attraction and offers customizable Tour, Stay & Play packages that include admission to the Attraction, golf and spa along with an overnight stay. See the following pages for more information on some of our popular packages.

In 1945 Alex Jordan climbed a rocky tower and his imagination took flight. That was only the beginning.

Over the years, Alex expanded his vision beyond the House and collected and built on a massive scale. What began as a lofty retreat with an awe-inspiring view has become the spectacular attraction known worldwide as The House on the Rock. On your self-guided Ultimate Experience tour you will explore:

• The unique design of the Original House perched on a chimney of rock

• The Infinity Room extends 218 feet over the valley, soaring 156 feet above the forest floor

• The World’s Largest Carousel featuring 269 handcrafted animals, 20,000 lights and 182 chandeliers

• An enormous sea creature longer than the Statue of Liberty is tall

• A Japanese Garden including 14-foot quadruple waterfalls cascading into a garden pond...and much more!

The House on the Rock is open from March 18, 2021 to January 2, 2022. The days of week, hours of operation and sections that are open vary depending on the time of the year.

A DREAM TURNED INTO AN EVER EVOLVING REALITYTHE HOUSE ON THE ROCK

ALEX HAD MISGIVINGS about losing the privacy he had worked so hard to get, but he finally acquiesced, and in 1960 The House on the Rock opened to the public. “Word got out that there was something to see out here, and people began coming around. They’d holler up, ‘Can we see your place!’ One day we were picnicking, and I said, ‘By golly, I’m going to charge 50 cents a piece!’ And you know they paid it gladly. The first day we opened we made $15.” That first year the Attraction grossed a total of $5,000. In 1961, income jumped to $34,000.

THE CAROUSEL After 10 years of on-site construction, the Carousel was unveiled on Easter weekend of 1981. It has over 20,000 lights, 182 chandeliers and 269 handcrafted carousel animals – not one a horse. The lights are run at half their rated voltage to extend their

life and reduce the number of light bulb changes for the maintenance staff. It is 35 feet tall, 80 feet wide and weighs 35 tons.

Traditional cables and wires cannot be used to carry electrical power to the

on-board lights. Such cables and wires would quickly be twisted and torn by the continuous rotational motion. Instead, a series of copper “float rings” are fixed in position along the center column and 20 conductive brushes are arranged to rotate

along with the carousel framework. These brushes “sweep” the surface of the non-moving rings creating an unbroken electrical circuit to the

exterior of the surface.

The Carousel is powered by a 25 horsepower 3-phase electric motor. Motion is delivered via a series of belts, pulleys, timing chains and gears including a massive 15-foot diameter bull gear.

The menagerie of animals displayed on the Carousel include bears, camels, cats centaurs,

chariots, chickens, dogs, dolphins, dragons, elephants, giraffes, goats, lions, peacocks, pigs,

rabbits, storks, tigers, walruses, zebras and more.

1960

Open to the public for over 60 years!

THE DARK SIDE A SPOOKY AFTER HOURS EXPERIENCE!

Unsettling to some during the day, wait til you journey through The House on the Rock at night! “The Dark Side” is a decidedly different experience at the Attraction. This is the time when we dim the lights and select areas of the Attraction become

haunted. In true The House on the Rock fashion, it’s anything but typical. You’ll encounter creepy tableaus

of terror from horrific clowns to zombie bridegrooms and a Haunted Doll Carousel. Travel through the Devil’s Throat and wander through the fiendishly disorienting Dark Maze, escaping at last…only to be greeted by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!

2021 DARK SIDE DATES & HOURS:October 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 ..................6:30 pm to 9:30 pm (Last admittance at 9:00 pm)

RATES: Dark Side Only* Combo** Adult, Senior, Military (age 18 and over) ........$19.95 ............................$39.95 Children (ages 17 and under) ........................................$11.95 ............................$23.95* The Dark Side Experience is a separately ticketed event and daytime admission is not included. The complex completely closes at 5:00pm and reopens at 6:30pm for the Dark Side Experience.** The Combination Ticket includes the Dark Side Experience and Ultimate Experience Admission. The last Combination Ticket is sold at 3:00pm.

• Visit is self-guided. We recommend that you allow 1 hour for the Dark Side Experience.

• Due to the dim and special effects lighting of The Dark Side Experience, the regular exhibits are

not clearly visible. If you wish to view the exhibits, we recommend planning another visit during one of the regular daytime experiences.

• The Dark Side may not be suitable for all ages. The Dark Side utilizes strobe light, fog effects, uneven

flooring/footing, tight spaces, dim lighting and performers who jump out unexpectedly. People who could be aggravated by these special effects should consider conditions before purchasing a ticket.
