AUGUST 2020 1 ATTIC ANGEL COMMUNITY Ac Sale Update As you can imagine, it's been an incredibly challenging year to "steer" the Attic Sale. A lot of effort and energy went into planning, organizing, sorting and packing for the Sale just to have it abruptly halted. The Sales Task Force recommended trying online auction to see how it goes. The 2020 and 2021 Steering Committee members are also thinking creatively, coordinating ways to resourcefully liquidate Attic Sale items and still make an impact of generosity to the community. To keep everyone safe we will follow the directives in the Angel Advancement Plan, a safety guideline to give us direction as we resume Angels working in the basements and when we open up for future donations. The in -person Classic Clothing Sale and Holiday Galore and More Sale have been canceled for this calendar year. Please watch our Community website, www.atticangel.org, for future updates. Attic Sale Update

As you can imagine, it's been an incredibly challenging year to "steer" the Attic Sale.

The in-person Classic Clothing Sale and Holiday Galore and More Sale have been canceled for this calendar year. Please watch our Community website, www.atticangel.org, for future updates.

AAP Board Meeting By Judy Winkel, AAP Board Secretary

The AAP Board joined the other Boards and the Finance and Audit Committees at 10:45 am for an Audit presentation before their meeting.

Angels in our Midst! By Kathy Schultz, Volunteer Coordinator

Did you know that even though we aren’t interacting with and enjoying the many normal and familiar activities and services our wonderful Angels provide for us, they are still around and doing many things to make life a little better for all of us! In spite of the pandemic, our Angels are regularly touching the lives of staff and residents in so many ways. Specific requests are sent out to them, and their responses are immediate. For example, they call and send letters and cards to residents, shop and drop off needed items, monitor the resident garden beds in case help is needed, and do shifts at the visiting booths. So many of you are finally seeing your loved ones face-to-face! We enjoyed a dog parade and library books will begin to be picked up and dropped off for us beginning this month. They have given donations to purchase items to be used by staff with residents—both during Covid-19 and beyond (Health Center residents have really had fun with the Karaoke machine!!). Our outside grounds/gardens are made beautiful by Angels, and we even have a few Angel residents who have kept our indoor plants alive and well. There have also been surprises for staff: Kwik Trip gift cards, restaurant gift cards, lunches from a variety of restaurants, morale boosters like chalk drawings on sidewalks, signs at the employee entrance, phone calls, and emails with encouraging words. The Angel touch and the love goes on and on and on and on.

We are doing all we can to stay healthy, to keep each other healthy, and to keep all of our spirits up. We so look forward to having the Angels back with us – oh, the fun we will have! We thank them all so much for being the wonderful Angels they are.

Michael Peer and Amy Vehrs from CliftonLarsenAllen shared financial information and thoughts on this difficult time as it might affect facilities such as Attic Angel. Attic Angel did take a financial loss in March at the start of the pandemic but has recovered some of the loss since then. The stimulus funds have helped.

They noted that, as the pandemic continues, new services are being developed, especially in the area of home health services, to keep people out of senior communities. Attic Angel needs to keep up with the trends. The AAP Board completed their business after the Audit presentation.

The Community Support Statement was discussed. It will go back to the Diversity Task Force for discussion and then brought back to the Boards.

A resident in the Apartments, who has tested positive for COVID-19, has been confined to their apartment. This has caused a few changes such as no inside visits, the closing of the Salon and residents needing to stay in their living area. The facility will remain in Phase 1 of the Angel Advancement Plan.

Residents appreciate all that the staff and volunteers are doing but it continues to be a difficult time for all. The newsletter (Glad Tidings) edited by Barbara and Norm Berven and Pat McClimon has been well received along with outside visits with family members and the chalk drawings outside the front entrance and on the wall at the employee entrance.

Staff is working with the Library Committee on increased use of the Library services.

Scam Alert

Several Prairie Point residents have been contacted recently by scammers posing as grandchildren. The caller claims to be in some type of distress, arrested, in the hospital or similar predicament, and needs the victim to send money. They almost always have at least some information about you personally that makes you believe they are who they say. Please hang up immediately. Never provide bank account or credit card information over the phone. Do not send gift cards or bitcoins online. Once they have your money, it is nearly impossible to get back.

Worxhub

When completing a maintenance work order in Worxhub, it is important you select “Subscribe to email up-dates” in the upper right hand corner of the General Info box if you wish to receive email communication re-garding the status of your order. Also, by selecting from the list of your maintenance requests located to the right of the screen, you will be able to scroll down and select “Log: Status changed from [New] to [Complete] with the...” to view activity related to your order. Please review your AAPP Resident Handbook for additional information on logging into Worxhub and completing a work order.

AAPP Board Highlights

The Attic Angel Community Support Statement was reviewed at length with many suggestions being made to present it as a statement of what we are already trying to do to promote social justice as well as being open to education and advocacy efforts. Actions would be included in our 2020-2025 Long Range Plan.

President Mary Ann Drescher updated the Board on the latest Covid-19 virus information. The Board expressed gratitude for the way that Attic Angel staff has stepped up to keep our residents safe in this crisis.

Since the monthly packets have been digitalized, many residents are struggling to manage this change. The Prairie Point Resident Association Board is spearheading an effort to identify all communication methods currently in place and to find the one that works the best for the majority of AAPP residents. They will then work to help other residents to learn this method so that, going forward, communication may be optimized.
