yourself physically and emotionallyHealth is an ongoing, continuous processAs a student you can not be concerned about your

health one week and not the next Good health habits need to become part of each

student’s routine

yourself the following questions:Sleep

Are you getting enough sleep or rest? 7-9 hours / nightDo you have a routine for sleep or is it hit or miss?

DietAre you eating two or thee balanced meals/day?Do you eat too much junk food, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs?

Get Rid of Distracters Creating more interest so that you become more

interestedCreate interest by acquiring information about a subject from different

sources- lectures, books, magazines, television, Internet, radio, other people

Tye new information to old information by applying it to your everyday life

Ask questionsMake new information personal , related it to a personal experienceWork with classmates to maintain interest in the subject

Get Rid of DistractersPositive Self-Talk

For you as a student you have to have a good positive attitude and believe in yourself

Poor learners tend to talk bad about themselves

Distracters continued…Positive self talk instead of negative talk is essential to

doing wellStatements might include “ I am very prepared for this test”

or “ Its no problem, I can finish this paper”

Eliminate any External DistractersWhen studying you should be free of distractions such as:

Noise Movement of peopleAdjust light so that it is at a comfortable levelAdjust temperature in the room

distracters by:Selecting a seat away from windows, doors, friends, wall

Staying Alert in ClassIn order to stay alert in class a student can do the

following:Be prepared for class and organizedDevelop some interest in subject matterGet adequate rest so you are not tempted to sleep in classFind areas of common interest between you and the

instructorAsk yourself “Why this information is important?”Keep active in class, take notes constantlyTake deep breaths in order to increase oxygen flow
