There were three women: Etrange,Ecole, and Chien, one infant

(Oeuf), and a young girl (Attente). They have been waiting for food for about five days. They were all

starving, but they wouldn’t miss out on their daily chores. They madeclothes, and grounded flour withmortars and pestles and did a ton of

 work.

Even though all of them were bored out of their minds, it seemed that work was the only thing to do inthe cave. They always wanted something to get their minds off work but they were too busy and stressed tothink of such things. To them, entertainment wasfantasy.

The young girl was  Attente. She lovedlistening to the worldoutside the cave, sothat was the only thing she enjoyed throughout

the day. She was incharge of collecting plants for the other Neanderthals to grind.

Now back tothe hunters.

Riesgo and Poid knocked a large piece of rock from the cliff  to hit one of themammoths. This was called the “ambush hunt”. The rock hit one, and it toppled over and went bam as it hit the ground. As the other mammoth escaped, the men went tocut its prey.

As they dragged the prey to the cave, Attente was picking flowers and immediatelynoticed them coming back. Attente ran back to the cave.

“They are back with food!” Attente shrieked. “There’s going to be a feast tonight.”

“Then lets have a celebration.” Chien said.

“How?” asked Ecole. “How can we celebrate?”

Everyone sat down and thought.

No one had a clue. When the men came back with food the first thing that circled their brains was to eat the meat.

As the hunters became nearer to the cave, the women started making fire. They placed a branch between their hands and spun it onto a piece of dry wood in a circle.

Smoke began to rise, and a woman blew on it. Attente took the grass, branches, flowers and tree bark she had collected earlier, and piledit on the dry wood. Attente then walked out the cave. Outside there were seven branches, with the leaves still on them, dug inside of theground. The young girl then lit every branch stuck in the ground. This was for keeping wild animals away.

Stomp, stomp, stomp.

Oeuf heard footsteps, and before she knew it themen have arrived with the mammoth meat. They began to cook their meal.

They completely stuff ed themselves with

mammoth meat. Just when everyone thought that was the end of his or her meal one mancracked the bone using a rock. They haveforgotten about eating the marrow, which isinside of the bone.

couldn’t break the bone in half to get to themarrow. Oeuf had help fromthe others but   Attente had tofigure out on her

own somehow.

She placed the boneon the ground and  walked, or should I

say, stomped aroundin circles to think of an idea how.

Crack!

Where can that noisebe coming from?

She looked down at

her feet, and saw what   was under them. Shehas stepped on thebone and made twosmall cracks, and brokeoff  both ends of thebone.

Good! Now all she hadto do was slurp themarrow out of it.

She slurped the marrow out of one of the ends of the bone. Stilla bit hungry, wondering if thereare any more left, she peeked

into the hole in that end of thebone. When she looked inside it  was dark so she couldn’t tell.

She thought for a while, anddecided to blow into the twosmall cracks. She thought theremust be some, and if she blew into the bigger hole at an end of the bone it will blow out theother end and be wasted. So shedid so and apparently the bone  was empty, and instead of marrow, came a sound.

When the women finished their meal they carried on with work: rubbing mortar on

pestle When Oeuf was finished she didn’t know what to do, so she stared at the cave  wall, as she likes. Yawn. Tired, she leanedagainst the wall with a large

Everyone looked her way, as Oeuf rubbed her head from the pain. Shehas made a noise. She banged the wall a few times more, with her handsthis time. THUMP!

The fire crackled, there was a humming sound of the bone Attente was blowing in, the sound of Oeuf hitting the cave wall, the grinding sound of the mortar rubbing the pestle, the soundsput together was beautiful. It was right there with them all along,

they just had to open their ears and hear it.
