    The Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) is issued byCambridge English Language Assessment, a not-for-prot department ofthe University of Cambridge.

    The prestigious DELTA qualication is held by many of the worldsmost experienced teachers, head teachers, directors of studies andteacher trainers.

    The DELTA at ATTC addresses all the course objectives set by CambridgeEnglish Language Assessment.

    Diploma in English Language Teaching

    to Adults (DELTA)Issued by Cambridge English Language Assessment,

    a not-for-profit department of the University of Cambridge,

    the prestigious DELTA qualification is held by many of the

    The course is designed for in-service teachersof English who work in a variety of teaching

    contexts e.g. adult, primary or secondary, andprovides the opportunity to:

    acquire new insights into the areaof English Language Teaching (ELT)to adults and a deeper understandingof the principles and practices

    review and update current beliefsand practices

    extend expertise in a specialist area.

    It is also intended for an internationalaudience of non-first language or first

    language teachers of English.

    Course structure

    The DELTA qualification is made up ofthree modules:

    Module One Understanding language,methodology and resources for teaching

    Module Two Developingprofessional practice

    Module Three Extending practice andEnglish language teaching specialism OREnglish language teaching management

    We are accepting applications forcourses in 2015:

    Module One

    17 August-27 November 2015

    Part time (2 evenings, Saturdaymorning) 15 week face-to -face course

    Exam held 2 December 2015

    Module Two

    1 February-13 May 2016

    Part time (2 evenings, Saturdaymorning) 15 week face-to -face course

    Assessment completed duringthe course

    Module Three

    Starting Monday 1 February 2016 orMonday 16 May 2016

    This is not a course but supervisionof independent work towards submission

    of extended written assignment by1 June 2016.

    Assessment requirements

    Module One

    This will be assessed by written examinationconsisting of two parts, each taking 1 hourand 30 minutes.

    The 2015 examination will take place onWednesday 2 December 2015 at ATTCsSydney CBD Campus, or at anotherregistered Cambridge Language Assessmentexamination centre. The 2016 examinations

    will take place on the first Wednesday ofJune and December.

    Module Two

    The assessment of Module Tworequires submission of 4 backgroundessays, lesson plans and self-evaluationreports based on four observed assessedlessons and the teaching of 4 observedassessed lessons (3 internally and1 externally assessed). In addition,participants need to pass a ProfessionalDevelopment Assignment and carry out

    guided observations of experiencedteachers for a minimum of 10 hours.

    Module Three

    This module is assessed by an extendedwritten assignment of 4,000-4,500 wordsand is to be submitted to Cambridge.Participants are expected to submit theirassignment prior to 2 December 2015,1 June 2016 or 1 December 2016 via ourSydney office.

    DELTA Certification

    On successful completion of all 3 modules,participants are awarded the full DELTAcertificate. Grades include Pass with

    Distinction, Pass with Merit, Pass and Fail.Certificates will also be issued for thesuccessful completion of each module.

    Entry requirements

    DELTA applicants are required to:

    have a minimum of a years ELTexperience (600 hours)

    have an initial ELT teaching qualification

    have competence in both writ ten andspoken English that enables all coursework to be followed and assessmentelements to be completed successfully

    complete 3 application tasks(Module Two only)

    Please Note:In order to enrol in the DELTAcourse at ATTC, you should be in good healthand be able to manage the stress arisingfrom an challenging course of this nature.This course is not ideal if you have other

    commitments that prevent you from beingable to fulfil these requirements. It isanticipated that you will need to complete100 hours of reading, research andassignment preparation in addition to theface to face course component.

    Assessment fees are also payable throughATTC to Cambridge as follows:

    ResourcesA recommended list of useful books andtexts will be provided. Students will beable to borrow books from the TeacherTraining resource collection on campusand will have access to the collegesteaching resources.

    Course overview

    ATTC runs a course for Module One and Module Two and an individual supervision program

    for Module Three. The DELTA at ATTC addresses all the course objectives set by Cambridge

    English Language Assessment.

    Module One - Understandinglanguage, methodology andresources for teaching

    This module focuses on the background toteaching and learning English in a range ofcontexts. Topics include:

    theoretical perspectives on languageacquisition and language teaching

    different approaches andmethodologies, including currentdevelopments

    language systems and learnerslinguistic problems

    language skills and learners problems

    knowledge of resources, materials andreference sources for language learning

    key concepts and terminology relatedto assessment

    Module Two - Developingprofessional practice

    This module focuses on the principlesand practice of planning and teaching.Topics include:

    the language learner and the languagelearning context

    preparation for teaching Englishlanguage learners

    evaluating, selecting and usingresources and materials

    managing and supporting learning

    evaluation of lesson preparation

    and teaching observation/evaluation of other

    teachers lessons

    professional ism and opportunities forprofessional development

    Module Three

    Option 1: Extending practice and

    English language teaching specialism

    This module focuses on needs analysis,syllabus design, course planningand assessment in the context of aselected specialism.

    Option 2: English language teachingmanagement

    This module focuses on situationanalysis and planning, and implementingchange in the context of a selectedmanagement specialism.
