The Challenge
In December 2015, Dan Parsons and Olly Clark aim to row the 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from San
Sebastian de La Gomera to English Harbour Antigua, in doing so winning a race known as the Talisker Whisky Atlantic
Challenge.
Known as one of the toughest challenges on earth, made more difficult by raging seas, howling winds, sharks,
blisters and salt rashes, sunstroke and sleep deprivation, there is little wonder that a mere 500 people have
completed, whilst almost ten times that number have been to the summit of

The Twist

The Charities
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in
the UK. Over 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate
cancer every year, with over 250,000 men currently
living with the disease.
One in eight men are likely to develop prostate cancer in
their lives. That said, 2 out of 3 men do not know what a
prostate is or does.
Increasing the awareness of the disease and its signs and
symptoms are crucial to increasing numbers of early
diagnoses and greater survival rates.
Dan’s father Pip was diagnosed with Prostate
February 2009, weeks after his 50th
birthday. Pip is one
of the lucky ones. After surgery and a lengthy
recuperation, he has made a full recovery, but he and
the family are indebted to the work of the charity

Recently changed from the Prostate Cancer Charity to
Prostate Cancer UK, the charity remains the leading UK
charity for men with prostate cancer and prostate
problems. The charity was set up in 1996, with an urgent

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity gives lifetime support to
serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk
so much for us, but for them, it’s just doing their job. In
return, the charity provides financial and vocational
assistance when they are in real need. That’s what the
charity has been here to offer for 70 years.
ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is for soldiers, for life. They
provide financial assistance to all soldiers and their
families when in genuine need. Even when a soldier
leaves the Army they are still part of our family and
eligible help. The scope of the charity’s work is huge.
Two-thirds of money is given direct to individuals to help
in areas such as post-injury assistance, vocational

Since graduating from Loughborough University, Dan (2

coast, Dan is no stranger to water, competing internationally in
sailing and enjoying windsurfing among other watersports. Dan’s
been lucky enough to share his passion for the sea by teaching and
coaching others- from complete novices to having had the pleasure
of working with the British Paralympic Sailing Team. Whilst a
competent sailor, Dan had never rowed before taking on this
challenge.
I can’t put into words how excited I am to have the opportunity to take on this great challenge, raising awareness
