The Athens Eye Hospital is an internationally acclaimed

Hospital and a place where serious and complex oph-

thalmological problems can be treated.

Specialist ophthalmologists, in collaboration with a

team of opticians, optometrists and nurses specialising

in ophthalmological cases, work together to secure the

divine gift of sight.

Through our state of the artmolecular biology labora-

tory we have the ambition to be the pioneers of the revo-

lution towards the gene therapy of retinal disorders.

The Hospital is an international leader in the treatment

of intraocular tumours and the treatment of various reti-

nal disorders, such as macular degeneration and diabetic

retinopathy. It comprises of departments that specialise

in these disorders and presents international clinical and

research works.

The Hospital specialises in the treatment of paediatric

conditions, such as congenital cataract, strabismus and

paediatric glaucoma.

The Refractive Surgery department, which treats my-

opia, hyperopia & astigmatism, is equipped with state-

of-the-art technology for the treatment of the most

common refractive disorders as well as certain forms of

presbyopia.

The Hospital operates a special department for the

treatment of keratoconus, a condition that affects a sig-

nificant number of individuals in the reproductive phase

of their lives.

We have the leading Femtosecond Laser system, which

is a revolution in the field of cataract surgery, corneal trans-

plants as well as other conditions of the ocular surface.

Finally, given that we all believe that the dissemination

and propagation of knowledge should be complete and

unrestricted, the Athens Eye Hospital has invested in the

education of ophthalmologists by installing the unique

VRmagic simulator system, aspiring that way to become

the educational reference centre, not only in Greece, but

also in the neighbouring Balkan countries and the Middle

East.

Department of PaediatricOphthalmology and Strabismus

At the department of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Athens Eye Hospital premature infants can, among other things, be screened for retinopathy of prematurity. The screening is conducted by using a specialized RetCam device and the treatment is done by relevant Laser techniques. In addition, the department treats neonatal cataract and children’s glaucoma, as well as all forms of strabismus.

We apply innovative methods of pharmaceu-tical therapy with bio-logical agents of vari-ous forms of age-related macular degeneration. Athens Eye Hospital also operates the exclusive centre for surgical treat-ment of various forms of degenerative AMD, per-forming operations such as macular translocation and surgical excision of sub-retinal membranes.

OcularOncology

Athens Eye Hospital is a pioneer in the treatment of choroidal melanoma. This is an innovational method in tumour removal without the need of excision the whole eyeball. The excised melanoma is histologically examined for specific ge-netic profile, the existence of which indicates a higher metastatic potential.

Presbyopia Study Unit

By applying the cutting-edge UBM technology it is possible to visual-ize the accommodation process. The abovemen-tioned technology ex-amines the behaviour of different intraocular (Premium) lenses used to correct presbyopia.
