Solutions for motors with converter supply in practice

There are several options open to the enduser. These include but are not limited tothe following examples:

select ATEX certified motor & converterpackages

the motor vendorwill issue a Declaration ofConformity according to ATEX 95

buy a complete machine which is itselfcertified as work equipment

the machine vendorwill issue a Declarationof Conformity according to its own ATEX 95requirements (EN13463-1)

perform the risk analysis to comply with the

minimum requirements of ATEX 137 the whole unit is the certified as a

    workplace

    Sparks Bearing Current

    Experience Phenomena Description

The VSD might generate highfrequency current in the bearings

Bearing current might createsparks in the bearings and outsidethe frame

Sparks may damage the bearings, lubrication or they can igniteexplosive gas around the motor

In the relevant documents, ABBindicates how to prevent this fromoccurring
