Minimalism, elegance and simplicity were the key elements in the design of Olle Lundberg’s new LED desk lamp, Birdie. The luminaire is based on two sections that are moulded together, with a beautiful finish. There are no fussy details; on the contrary, Birdie is the ultimate in simplicity.

Despite the low power of a 7W LED module, Birdie has a high lumen output and easily meets the high requirements of light output in the workplace. Birdie is equipped with a slide dimmer called a “Sweep Dim”, which is situated on top of the lamp housing, and allows you to dim the light from 0-100% to the exact degree. The settings are saved by its memory even after a power cut. “Sometimes technical solutions are truly elegant,” says Olle Lundberg. “They create both function and design”.

Birdie consists of lamp housing in die cast alumi-nium and arms in aluminium, anodised in graphic white or graphite black. The base is made of steel. Accessories include a floor stand, desk clamp and desk bushing, all in chromed metal. “With the help of various accessories, you can create the model you want”, says Product Manager Stefan Carlsson.

Bumling


‘Bumling’ means boulder in Swedish, and is used colloquially to describe things colossal or otherwise unwieldy. It is what a friend of the designer Anders Pehrson allegedly called Peh-rson’s new pendular lamp when it was first exhibited at the 1968 lighting fair in Gothen-burg. The lamp in question was bulbous, bright green and over half a metre wide. This was the birth of Bumling, a Swedish design classic.

Bumling was first launched in six different siz-es: 190, 250, 300, 400, 485, and 600 mm. The metal body of the lamp was spray-painted in a wide array of colours; it became an immediate success in Sweden, and soon internationally as well. The waiting time from order to deliv-ery extended to several months, and the little factory in Åhus could not keep up with pro-duction. Instead, external manufacturers were called upon to meet the demands.

The lamp in question was bulbous, bright green and over half a metre wide.

High gloss finish and fine details are some of the trademarks of Bumling. White lacquered interior and a narrow opening at the top gives a nice light emission.

Three-step switch on the top means that the luminaire can be switched with either one or the other light source, or both.

During the 1970s, a whole range of Bumling lamps was launched. The popularity of ta-ble, floor and wall versions, alongside many variations on the original pendular Bumling, made this lamp a true design icon within Swe-den and beyond.

Nowadays the 400 and 600 mm models are produced with a lampshade in brushed alu-minium, or with a red or white varnish. Addi-tionally, ateljé Lyktan produces one model in ”the colour of the year”, which changes annu-ally. Other colours can be specially ordered. Despite earning its iconic status in the 1970s, Bumling still looks modern in today’s homes, and represents great Swedish quality and de-sign now as then.

By the 1960s, the development of luminaire series had become an important cornerstone for ateljé Lyktan in the launch of new products. Now, Olle Anderson has created a new lighting series for corporate environ-ments, the assignment for which was to develop a series of luminaires with good lighting, with designs that allow flexibility of use. Allow us to present Buzz – a luminaire series in four variations.

Buzz is available in ceiling, pendant, table and floor models and comes in four different colours. The lamp-shades are surface treated with an ultra high-gloss finish and high-reflective white foil on the inside. The table and floor stands are made of chromed steel. “The material and finish were selected based on the design traditions of ateljé Lyktan,” says Olle Anderson. “Designs that last”.

The construction of Buzz is simple, which makes it easy for the user to assemble and use. All luminaires in the series are equipped with an E27 screw-base socket, for which a LED bulb is recommended. This standard socket is designed to work with various LED bulbs, and to be compatible with future developments within LED lighting.

Buzz is designed to emit good downward lighting for table and floor spaces. The lampshade holder ring has a matt lacquered surface that gives a harmonious raking light, which when seen from the side, contrasts against the glossy finish of the shade. A vertical light emission is created from the small reflector on the top of the shade.

Faggio


Trees and their beauty are the inspiration behind the design of Faggio table and floor lamps. Bringing na-ture’s forms and features indoors at work or at home creates an intriguing balance between outside and in, between the organic and the geometric.

Faggio is available in white, black and silver and has an aluminum frame and a simple, neat, avant-garde style. The shade is frosted. The floor lamp and the larger table model are based on a modular design concept that allows every part of the luminaires to be installed, extended, shortened, rotated and adjusted according to the angular spread, form and function desired by the user. “It’s easy to change Faggio’s appearance,” says Product Manager Malin Gadd. “Every user can create their own, unique luminaire.”

Faggio floor

The light is designed by the user depending on how the light branches are angled. With a single main switch and individual switches for each light branch it’s possible to select overall or individual control. Once plugged in Faggio is in stand-by mode and the on/off button lights up at regular intervals (a soft, rhythmic flashing) to help the user more easily find it to switch the lamp on even in the dark.

Faggio is fitted with LEDs and can achieve a maximum luminaire output of 35 W. Each light branch is fitted with 25 0.4 W LEDs. The luminaire is well shaded and meets or exceeds luminance requirements for work-places. With its inspiration from nature, low energy consumption and long life, Faggio provides eco-friendly lighting in more ways than one.

Fovea LED


Fovea was presented for the first time at the lighting exhibition in Hannover in 1996. The first luminaire in the world designed for the new, narrow T5 fluorescent tube was born. And now it’s time for the next genera-tion, Fovea fitted with LEDs.

Fovea remains a complete lighting system with infinite variation. The customer can choose the level of technol-ogy from low price versions with on-off switches to the very latest solutions with integrated dimmer functions. Its minimalist design means it adds without taking over. All of the variants meet dazzle requirements for computer workstations, and the combination with the wide applied scattering, makes Fovea LED one of the most usable, efficient luminaires on the market.

“Everybody is called Glenn in Gothenburg,” says the Gothenburg-based architect Olle Anderson, “or that’s at least what they said in the world of football in the 1980s, but we thought it was a good name for a light with its origins in this city.”

The streetlight Glenn premiered at the annual Lighting Urban Community International (LUCI) conference in Gothenburg in November 2011. It is the continuation of the popular streetlight Stockholm that Anderson designed in 1990. “Whereas Stockholm took its inspiration from older street lights and the world of train sta-tions and factories, Glenn is a street light with a more contemporary design,” says Anderson.

Glenn has a sharper, more modern form than Stockholm. It is made up of a cast aluminium shade, which sits on top of a cone-shaped reflector in white powder coated aluminium. The reflector mirrors the light, which is emit-ted through a shade in moulded acrylic which surrounds the optics. This shade projects light downwards but also filters the light sideways, creating both direct and secondary light. “The nice thing about this secondary light, which is reflected off the powdercoated aluminium, is that you can see the design of the luminaire at night,” says Anderson.

Glenn, which uses a metal halogen light source, can be mounted either on a wire or a pole. The version that is mounted on a pole is attached to a load-bearing arm and it is the transition between the luminaire and the arm that Anderson is the most proud of. “It is a very small, cast metal detail that connects the two parts of the light and it creates a beauti-ful outline against the sky.” The design engi-neer, Malin Gadd, at ateljé Lyktan agrees: “It looks like we have simply hung the light from the load-bearing arm, it’s a small, but very nice detail that we worked hard on getting absolutely right.”

Stefan Borselius was asked to design an outdoor lumi-naire for the street environment to add to ateljé Lyktan’s outdoor product range. It had to fit in with many differ-ent surroundings – everything from old city districts to more modern architecture. The result was Halo.

“I started out with a basic shape, the circle, a sphere. I wanted to create something that would blend in with the surroundings. A shining globe, like a little moon,” Stefan tells us. The globe is illuminated with the warm its full brightness downwards to illuminate the ground. And thanks to the LED module located at the bottom of the globe, light pattern can be symmetric or asym-metric. The LED module is protected by a flat, hardened glass pane located a little way inside the luminaire so as not to dazzle from a distance. The dark aluminium edging emphasizes the shape of the circle and is repeat-ed on the top.

The luminaire is available in two sizes, 600 and 450 mm in diameter. The larger lamp is intended primarily for street lighting and can be suspended from wires or fixed to a lamp post or wall. The smaller lamp is opti-mized for street and park environments. The luminaire body, wire attachment fitting and lamp post connection are in cast aluminium. The sphere is in pressed opal acrylic well suited to our tough, Nordic climate.

“This is a family of lights that is meant to be seen and to communicate its gentle impact on the environment in both senses”, says designer Henrik Schulz about Hi-Hat, a new series of LED luminaires that he designed for ateljé Lyktan.

The sharp, sleek outline of the Hi-Hat is in-spired by the cymbal of a drum kit. From the injection moulded shade in opaque acrylic to the white lacquered aluminium stand or pendulum, the Hi-Hat is a uniform monolith. It blends in to any interior, but without losing its distinctive identity.

Hi-Hat exists as a ceiling, wall, pendulum, floor and table light, but all have the same size injection moulded shade (384 mm), creating a streamlined aesthetic. “It’s a complete series”, says Schulz. “It means that the same light can be used in the hallway, over the dining table or next to the bed. Using the range of lights in any interior gives it a very consistent look.”

The Hi-Hat contains small LED diodes distri-buted around the shade, creating a very even and warm light. “I think this is what I’m most proud of with Hi-Hat. We worked very hard at getting that right,” says Schulz. ateljé Lyktan’s design engineer Demir Pergje-gjaj agrees. “After a lot of research we found a very slimline LED ballast that is concealed in the base of the light rather than in the shade itself and that made all the difference to how the light is distributed.”

The table and floor versions of Hi-Hat have resolved the issue of spare cable in a very sophisticated fashion. The round base, which measures 300 mm in diameter, is made up of two parts – steel at the bottom to give it weight and aluminium on top. The space created between the two discs is intended for storing unused cable – an elegant and practical solution to a messy problem.

Hood


“We came up with the idea for Hood when we moved to our new studio,” says Petrus Palmér from Form Us With Love. “We needed a flex-ible light source and sound absorbent above our conference table as the studio is open-plan and with a very high ceiling.”

Hood is an ideal solution for these open plan environments, functioning both as a light source and a sound barrier, helping to create a more intimate space in the contemporary office landscape. Its modular structure means that Hood can grow according to need. “It should be possible to expand Hood in all directions re-ally,” says Palmér.

In model 1200x1800 there are two light units. In all models, there is a light unit in each suspension point. Light units are connected in one line and the power supply is via the first light unit in line.

Form Us With Love initially developed Hood with ateljé Lyktan’s made-to-measure service Ateljén (or “the studio”) as a one-off piece, but after experimenting with Hood’s potential it was clear that it was going to hold a unique spot in the market place. “It creates an illumi-nated island within any open space,” says Palmér.

“Some types of lamps will always exist – the plafond is one of them,” says the designer Torbjörn Eliasson. With Kit, his new series of lamps for ateljé Lyktan, Torbjörn Eliasson has given the classic plafond form a subtle twist, without undermining its simple and el-egant proportions. “Kit is quite archetypal. However, we have tried to develop the form a bit,” explains Torbjörn Eliasson. Kit has a slightly concave underside, which makes it a classic plafond lamp with an original detail and special character.

The three variants of Kit make it a highly versatile lamp – two are slightly larger and shallower, with diameters of 550 mm and 400 mm respectively. With a diameter of 200 mm, the third is smaller, but bal-ances this formally with its greater depth. “Kit can be used in many different contexts because it comes in three different variations,” explains Torbjörn Eliasson.

However, they all follow the same principles; all are equipped with LED, are set on a metal foundation, and are encased by an upturned dome of matte glass, eas-ily mounted with bayonet.

Light levels can be regulated by a DALI function and impulse regulation. “The DALI function makes it pos-sible to dim down the lamp to different light levels,” explains design engineer Stefan Hofflander. “The im-pulse regulation is connected to a spring button on the wall. If you press it, you can control the light flow.”

Klik


Klik is a simple, practical, and ambient luminaire which works equally well fitted onto a wall or onto the ceiling, designed by Olle Lundberg. It consists of two main variants, a trapezoid, which emits light from three sides, and a circular variant. In both versions of Klik, the light apertures are covered with an opal film as it creates an even luminance.

The shell is made from aluminium because of its cooling properties, a prerequisite for a sustainable LED lamp. The LED light source means higher luminous efficacy, a longer lifespan, and therefore lower energy consumption. “That would not have been possible with a halogen light source, for example,” explains the design manager Stefan Carlsson.

Level


Level is a discreet and minimalist ceiling lamp available in three sizes and mounted directly the in ceiling sus-pension system, designed by Olle Lundberg.

Due to the LED light source, Level has a very compact format. Designer Olle Lundberg has added a new park lumi-naire – Linx – to ateljé Lyktan's outdoor product range. Lundberg has created a minimalist luminaire in the modern idiom based on a LED light source.

Linx is available as post luminaire or bollard, and both models are equipped with the latest lighting technol-ogy. The post version is equipped with wide-beamed lenses that maximise spread, and a high-tech film that diffuses the light. The bollard emits indirect shaded light via a semi-diffuse reflector. The luminaire is ideal along promenades and walkways where symmetric, well-shaded light is strived for. While Linx blends well into the modern landscape, it also creates exciting contrasts with older, more diverse architecture. "Because the eye is drawn toward light, it's important that the luminaire doesn't dazzle; the light must be there, but no glare," says Olle Lundberg.

The bollard emits indirect shaded light via a semi-diffuse reflector.

Fitted with a STARK - SLE module.

The pole connection in cast aluminium attaches to the polycarbonate shade.

The post luminaire consists of a luminaire housing and pole connection in cast aluminium with a shade in clear UV-resistant polycarbonate and internal white-painted aluminium reflector. Three different luminous flux levels are available: 2400 lm, 3200 lm and 4100 lm. The bollard also has a luminaire housing in cast aluminium and an aluminium re-flector. The luminaire housing can be supplemented with accessories for attachment to a 108 founda-tion, in-situ casting or ground fixing plate. The bollard version has a luminous flux of 1300 lm, and to prevent glare the LED module is recessed in the reflector.

Linx is available in three standard colours; anthra-cite grey, silver grey and graphite black, and is also available with or without a dimmer.

MEMBER OF THE FAGERHULT GROUP

When Olle Lundberg created his extensive Megalo family a few years ago, it enjoyed a great reception in public spaces and private homes alike. At that time, LED technology was still in its cradle and was not considered for this luminaire. But it is today. The new Megalo has undergone a quality shift in terms of materials choices and technology while expressing the same classic artistic idiom as its predecessor. The luminaire is made from spin-formed aluminium with a concave diffuser in opal acrylic. With its well-developed light management and modern lighting technology, Megalo LED is ready for tomorrow's public and private spaces. Each of the models is available in three different sizes in the standard colours red, white or black.

Moon is a decorative outdoor lighting family in a unique design, which can create exciting new light impressions as well as more traditional ones. The family consists of bollards in two heights, 800 mm or 1100 mm and a wall model which can be fitted vertically or horizontally, depending on the impression you want to give. The fittings have LED arrays and are available in 3000 or 4000 K, symmetrical (6x3W) or asymmetrical (3x3W).

Sensitive environments like churches and museums re-quire finely-tuned lighting solutions. With its flexibility and dimmable light source, ateljé Lyktan’s new floor-lamp Noble is specially adapted for sensitive settings.

Noble is comprised of two parts: a foot with a socket without electrical leads, and a post with lamps and electrical equipment. “In churches, every little hole and fixing needs to be approved by an architect and local administrative board,” explains Noble’s designer Hans Wihlborg. Therefore, Noble’s free-standing flexibility is important. “The advantage of Noble, which was also a criteria of its production, is that it doesn’t interfere with the existent installation,” adds Peter Hallengren, Noble’s technical design engineer.

Noble has an aluminium profile and a foot in steel. It is equipped with four lamps, framed by brass. Wihl-borg explains how his choice of light sources also take the sensitive environment into consideration: “Church-es often have white walls, for which lights with lots of warm tones are suitable, LED or halogen, no matter what brightness.”

“Each church is unique,” says Wihlborg. “I realised there’s a big demand for a lamp that is both practical and attractive.” With its elegant aesthetic and dimma-ble light, Noble meets both criteria.

Nosy is an efficient downlight luminaire with a LED array in an unobtrusive design that can light up large areas or workplaces. The material is extru-ded aluminium with cast aluminium ends to add a solid feel to the modest form. Form Us With Love is the designer trio behind our latest LED lamp. Ogle sees design in a light all of its own. An LED eye keeps watch from a melon-sized lampshade in black, velvet-smooth die cast acrylic. An eye that can shift its gaze thanks to a groove on top of the lamp. “I finalized the design of Plain in 2014, but I’d had the concept in mind for a long while.” So says Tommy Govén, the designer behind the recessed luminaire se-ries, Plain. The idea behind the concept was to devel-op a luminaire that can provide conditions for evenly distributed, glare-free surface illumination efficiently. The latest research into lighting has shown that sur-face illumination, i.e. lighting on a room’s ceiling and walls, has a significant impact on a person’s circadian rhythm, well-being and performance.

Because the focus was on the luminaire’s technical characteristics, Govén wanted to create a luminaire that did not take up space in the room’s architecture, but disappeared visually into the surface of the ceiling or wall. Accordingly, the luminaire’s visible parts are white and the optical parts hidden. LEDs were the nat-ural choice to create an energy-efficient, compact lumi-naire with good optical characteristics while allowing simple control of the light

Plug Lamp


Plug Lamp is the latest product by the Stock-holm-based design studio Form Us With Love for ateljé Lyktan. And it does exactly what its name suggests. “This was a really simple idea,” says John Löfgren. “We wanted to create a lamp with the added bonus of an electrical socket.”

Plug Lamp has a powder-coated cast alumini-um base which supports a bulbous shade in frosted glass. The socket sits centrally on the base, confidently announcing the dual function of the product. Plug Lamp comes in a variety of colours, from a bright turquoise and a letter-box red, to more muted tones of black, white and grey.

Whether it is to charge a mobile phone, com-puter, tablet or camera, we constantly seem to be on the look-out for electric points when we are on the go.

“There is a natural market for this sort of lamp in public spaces such as lobbies and cafés and also in hotel rooms,” says Löf-gren. “By integrating the socket in the lamp it also takes away that annoying procedure of searching for a socket or having to un-plug something in order to access an electrical point.”

As for the lamp function, Plug Lamp’s design engineer Johan Wanstadius explains that the E27 socket accommodates a variety of light sources, from LED to regular light bulbs. ”The lamp is also dimmable,” says Wanstadius.

Plug Lamp has that unmistakable Form Us With Love signature – a strong, graphic form that clearly communicates its purpose. The final product is an iconic luminaire that will adorn its surroundings and assist its consum-ers in equal measures.

Simris


After a lighting exhibition in Copenhagen, 1970, Anders Pehrson, the CEO of ateljé Lyktan, was asked by Olympics organisers in Munich, whether the company could send a proposal for a lighting solution for the Olympic Games of 1972. The concept for a luminaire called Simris was developed for both floor and desk lamps, and after months of negotiations, meetings in Germany and amended proposals, three suppliers were chosen out of hundreds of other Euro-pean lighting companies. ateljé Lyktan was one of the three chosen companies, which also won the largest part of the assignment: 16.300 lamps, accounting for 70% of the total order. This meant that ateljé Lyktan would provide virtually all the interior lighting for the Olympic Village.

To date, this is the largest order in the history of ateljé Lyktan, and there were four reasons why the luminaires were chosen to light up the Olympic Village: good design, good functionality, excellent quality and reasonable price.

Now, we are re-launching Simris, in two different floor models and two table models, available in black or white with the base in leather-covered steel. Simris is highly contemporary, designed with LED, with a dimmer via a sensor plate located on the top of the luminaire housing, and a red textile cable. The original characteristic features in design and material remain the same.

In 1990 the designer Olle Anderson won the nordic design competition ‘New light over Stockholm’. The challenge for the contestants was to design a streetlamp which, besides fine lighting performance, could fit equally well into historic and modern parts of the Swedish capital.

Anderson’s streetlamp Stockholm won and was put into production by ateljé Lyktan in three variants: post, suspended and wall. “I’ve always tried to work within a Scandinavian lighting tradition,” says Olle Anderson. “A tradition which utilises and conveys the light in a functional and pleasant way.” Stockholm’s aluminium body is comprised of two parts: a broad, black outer shade and a vaulted, grey, inner shade. Together they achieve a well-balanced light dispersal: “The light is reflected and dispersed by the two screens and besides its function, the total experience of the lamp is aesthet-ically pleasing,” says Anderson.

Now the whole family of Stockholm lamps will be

upgraded to LED technology.

Now the whole family of Stockholm lamps will be up-graded to LED technology. “Like most exterior lamps, the first Stockholm model had discharge lamps,” ex-plains the design engineer Stefan Carlsson, who was involved in the construction of the first model. “What introducing LED technology does is increase the du-rability and decrease the energy expenditure of the lamp,” he continues. Furthermore, the dispersal of the light is made slightly more precise than before, says Carlsson: “You can put the light where it is needed, and nowhere else. The lamp gets less light spillage.”

Tall


Tall is a suitable name for Jan Forsmark’s new outdoor bollard light for ateljé Lyktan. In Swedish, ‘Tall’ is the name for the majestic Scots Pine tree. The name of the lamp alludes to the enchanted pine forests of northern Swe-den, where it was first installed as part of the lighting for Treehotel. The name works equally well in English for this stately bollard light.

Tall has a cruciform base, crowned by three LED light cells that are, in turn, deflected down-wards by a cuboid top. One large LED cell is located under the top at the front of the lamp, while two smaller ones sit at the back. This means that Tall disperses its light in 360 de-grees, but shines somewhat stronger in one direction. In this way, Tall can be orientated to lead the eye along a route, while illuminating its general surroundings at the same time.

Tall is equipped with three LED light cells - two at the front and one at the back.

Corten steel or “weathering steel” forms a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the weather for several years. It was developed in the US during the 20th century and means that due to its chemical composition, this steel exhibits increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion compared to other steels.

The bollard light is made from Corten steel, whose earthy tones fit into most outdoor en-vironments. Forsmark explains that his choice of this material was also inspired by the tonal range of the pine forest. ”It struck me that the colour of Corten steel looks exactly like sun-light on pine trees.” The design engineer Pe-ter Hallengren comments further on the tech-nical qualities of the material: ”Corten steel needs no surface treament. It rusts a little in the beginning, but then it stops after a layer of rust has formed. Normal steel will continue to rust.” The result is what Forsmark calls a ”stylised pine tree”, where the rusty tones of the Corten steel emulate the colour range of the Nordic forest.

Carnegie Stockholm

The venerable Carnegie’s new premises on Government Street in Stockholm are a number of different models from ateljé Lyktan. Time is one of them. The recessed variant is located in the passages with a lower ceiling height where the require-ments for a good general lighting has been high.Science Park, the Karolinska Institute in Solna, Sweden has chosen the variant re-cessed in the ceiling and kept a clean roof, where Time is mounted radially on the open corridor.In the office landscape Time system has instead been pendant.Elegant recessed into the conference room at the Svenska Bostäder headquarters gives the recessed fixture a graphic impression of the black room. Two slim light lines across the table, good shade, but with adequate light value.If you wish the fixture to be accentuated, yet integrated with the roof, Time has a half-recessed family member. Luminaire form appears and does the same job as the surface-mounted.

To Energo Retea on Södermalm in Stockholm a project luminaire was created pre-cisely to their needs. The project was a success, and demand for a luminaire where ceiling mounting was not possible or desirable contributed to that Time table was put into production at ateljé Lyktan. Courts Administration, housed in the C-labeled rooms at the Stenbockska Palace. The ceilings were not used for mounting, but good light was obtained. Time LED


The pendant luminaire Time is a simple, stylish lamp designed by designer Bengt Källgren. It is especially suited for office environments and is now being up-graded from T5 fluorescent tubes to LED technology.

Time has a luminaire case in aluminium and is sus-pended by an adjustable wire. “Time LED is equipped with a LED system which, combined with its deflection technology, meets the European norms for office light-ing,” says Källgren. “The LED equipment complements the Time series for use in venues and buildings where energy efficiency, a long lifespan, and an advanced energy profile is demanded,” explains Källgren.

“The difference with the LED upgrade is that the user will enjoy a more stylish and compact form, where the latest technology in LED reflectors is used to make the luminaire even more environmentally friendly than before,” says Time’s technical design engineer Johan Wanstadius. “Moreover, the user will never have to change the light source throughout the entire lifespan of the product,” adds Wanstadius.

”The simplicity is important. It shouldn’t feel too high-tech”, says designer Mårten Cyrén as he reflects on the shape of Tipi, a light that he designed with his brother, the architect Gustav Cyrén, for ateljé Lyktan.

Tipi is a floorlight for both outdoor and indoor use, made from slats of heat-treated ash. The arrangement of the wooden slats around a stainless steel circular structure is reminiscent of the Native American teepee as well as the Swedish Samis “kåta”. Hence the name.

Tipi comes in two versions: a heat-treated natural wood, which goes greyer with time and a white lacquer that lets the grain show through. “We spent a long time research-ing the right type of wood for this light as we wanted it to have a Swedish feel”, says Cecilia Johansson, design engineer at ateljé Lyktan”, A more exotic wood wouldn’t have been right for this product and at the same time it needs to be resistant to all kinds of weather”.

There is a choice of three sizes: 530, 740 and 950 mm high. The round handle on top, in die-cast aluminium, makes it easy to move around. The electric cord is concealed in one of the three legs, which raises the Tipi off the ground. “There is something about its height and glow that reminds me of a camp fire”, says Cyrén. “A portable camp fire”. Originally Cyrén & Cyrén designed the light for the custom-made division of ateljé Lyktan, simply called Ateljén, or “the Studio”. It was especially commissioned for the Treehotel in Norrbotten, in northern Sweden — a new type of hotel made up of tree houses with all mod-cons. The inspiration for the lamp originates there, among the sticks and twigs and soothing sounds of the Swedish woods.

Zeta II


Zeta II is a LED luminaire for recessed installation in suspended ceilings in two versions – Comfort and Compact. Compact is a slimmed-down version with a height of 100 mm above the suspended ceiling compared to Comfort’s 139 mm. Both models are available in 3000K or 4000K in different luminaire outputs.

The luminaire consists of a cast aluminium body, paint-ed black, with a visible reflector edge. The reflector is of mirror type with a high gloss aluminium oxide finish to ensure optimum output, optimum light yield and anti-dazzle light. Various accessories allow the luminaire to be modified and create variants adapted to different surroundings and requirements.

Zeta II is easily installed directly in ceilings with thick-nesses of 5-55 mm without tools. Thanks to a mecha-nism (patent pending) with springs on corresponding sides of the luminaire, the luminaire is fitted into the suspended ceiling once the ballast has been connected. When the luminaire is dropped into place in the ceil-ing, the springs are released to secure it. Freeing and removing the luminaire from the suspended ceiling is equally simple.

Zeta II is easily installed and removed in ceilings with thicknesses of 5-55 mm

without tools.
