Transcript of Ateliers Jean Nouvel, a new dynamism
For over thirty-five years Ateliers Jean Nouvel has been creating exceptional buildings for exceptional clients.
Atelier means studio or workshop. We are a collaborative studio that creates poetically-charged environments where technique is at the service of emotion. We are also a workshop, a modern enterprise staffed by highly skilled professionals capable of leading large international design teams and ensuring successful outcomes for our clients. The DNA of our company is composed of this double strand.
Our work does not result from considerations of style or ideology, but from an unwavering commitment to create unique buildings for unique combinations of people, place and time. Our buildings are known for being deeply rooted in where they are. They transform their surroundings and indelibly mark the cities in which they are built.
This brochure will give you an idea of who we are and what we do. If you would like to know more please get in touch.

Architecture is rooted in specificity, artistic sensitivity and emotion. We do not come to new commissions with a pre-established formal language. Instead our work is anchored in the belief that architecture must reverberate deeply within the local context.
We ask ourselves such questions as: What can we build here that belongs here and nowhere else? How can we differentiate without caricaturing? How can we achieve depth?
The specificity question goes beyond climatic and functional considerations to embrace everything about a place, its culture, its history, its traditions, its connections to the world of today. The genius loci, the spirit of place, is paramount. It allows our architecture to connect, to belong, to interact and to extend beyond its walls.
We think that architecture must create emotions. This age needs architects who seek out the extraordinary, who appreciate the value of a site, who invent architecture as they design it. We think of architecture as an interface, a total experience, a beginning and an end, a journey.
Each project is born from an encounter with a client. These encounters often generate lasting friendships that have at their source a shared enthusiasm for the project. Over the course of a passionate and fascinating dialogue we try to make the client’s desires, the geographic realities, and the history of the place coincide within an often constraining framework of administrative requirements.
We welcome clients who understand the importance of architecture as a vehicle to generate returns, be they commercial or in terms of prestige and world recognition.
We welcome clients who understand that architecture is also the pursuit of pleasure.
