HEAD COACH JIM GANTT Jim Gantt is in his 19th season as head coach of the Catawba College baseball program. Under Gantt, Catawba has posted seven 40+ win seasons and 16 straight 30+ win seasons. He has guided the Indians to eight regional

appearances. GanttledtheIndianstotheirfirstCollege World Series appearance in 2012 and earned ABCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year honors. Gantt was named South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year for the seventh time in 2014 as he led Catawba to both the SAC regular season and tournament crowns. In 2006, Catawba went 47-14 and won both the SAC regular season and tournament titles. The Indians were ranked as high as #2 in the nation that season. CATAWBA MLB DRAFT PICKSPLAYERS IN THE PROS Catawba has produced 22 MLB Draft picks and 11 since 2008 with at least one players drafted in each year except for 2011.

CURRENT PRO PLAYERS *Jerry Sands (Cleveland Indians) Sands was signed this off-season by Cleveland. he has played in nine games for the parent club, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in his debut. He is currently with the AAA Columbus Clippers of the International League. Sands has also seen action in the majors with the the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays. He broke in with the Dodgers during the 2011 season and played in 70 games over two seasons before being traded to the Boston Red Sox. After he just a few months with the Red Sox he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. After being released by the Pirates he signed with Tampa Bay in 2014. He helped the State Col-lege Spikes to the ShortSeason A New York-Penn League championship in 2014. The lefty went 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA and one save over 39 innings. In two seasons, Lomascolo is 3-4 with a 2.83 ERA and two saves. He had 87 strikeouts over 70 innings.

*Chris Dula (Texas Rangers) Dula has been assigned to the Hickory Craw-dads of the Class A South Atlantic League to start 2015. He played with the Spokane Indians of the ShortSeason A Northwest League in 2014, helping the squad to the league championship series. Dula appeared in 13 games with 22 strikeouts over 16 and two-thirds innings.

*Paul Kronenfeld (Cincinnati Reds) Kronenfeld has been assigned to the Dayton Dragons of the Class A Midwest League. He played in 44 games for the Rookie Arizona Reds in 2014. He batted .234 with a pair of homers and 21 RBI.

ALBERTSON NAMED REGIONAL TOURNAMENT MVP Will Albertson was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Southeast Regional. He batted .375 (6-for-16) with a walk off homer to put Catawba in thechampionshipgameandanotherhitinthefinalinningofthefinalthatgotthe winning run to third with no outs. Austin Stilley and Chance Bowden joined Albertson on the region all-tournament team.

GRANT THROWS SEVEN SHUTOUT FRAMES IN FINAL JuniorSeanGrantdrewthestartforCatawbaintheregionalfinalandthrewseven shutout innings in an eventual 1-0 win. He allowed just two hits, both coming in the third inning, and walked only two. He fanned six.

BACK-TO-BACK WALK OFFS Catawba posted consecutive walk off wins at the NCAA II Southeast Regional. The Indians trailed Mount Olive 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth in the winner’s bracketfinalbeforeWillAlbertsonconnectedonatw-runhomertosenttheIndiansto the championship game. Inthefinal,CatawbaandNorthGeorgiabattledthroughascorelesscontestuntil the bottom of the ninth. Austin Stilley walked to open the inning becoming thefirstleadoffmantoreachforeitherteaminthegame.AnAlbertsonsinglesent pinch runner Emmitt Carden to third, who scored the winning run on a wild pitch one batter later following an intentional walk.

CATAWBA ADVANCES TO ANOTHER REGIONAL Catawba earned a spot in the NCAA II regionals for the ninth time and for the seventhtimeinthepasteightyears.Forthefirsttimeinschoolhistory,TheIndians entered the tournament as the top team in the region and hosted the tournament at Finch Field in Thomasville, NC.

BLANTON EARNS REGION PITCHER HONOR Catawba freshman Bryan Blanton claimed the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week honors after notching a win and a save in a key two game series with USC Aiken that virtually locked up Catawba’s spot in the NCAA reional tournament. Blanton pitched the final two innings of a 3-2 12-inning victory, fanning fivebatters. He saved the next game as he retired the middle of the Aiken lineup in order with a runner on base in an 8-6 win.

CATAWBA GRABS TOP TWO SAC HONORS Catawba picked up both SAC Player and Pitcher of the Year Awards behind junior catcher Will Albertson and senior pitcher Craig Brooks. They both were named firstteamAll-SACandearnedGoldGloveAwardsattheirrespectivepositions. Albertson leads the league in the majority of offensive categories entering the SAC Tournament. Albertson is hitting .494 with 23 home runs and 76 RBI. He is the seventh Catawba player to earn SAC Player of the Year honors. Brooks leads the SAC and NCAA II with 121 strikeouts to date. He also led the league with eight wins. Over 77 and a third innings, the senior has allowed just 38 hits and 24 walks and has posted a 1.63 ERA. Since the SAC begin naming aPitcheroftheYearin2004,Brooksisthefirstrepeatwinnerinleaguehistory.He is the eighth Catawba pitcher to win the award and becomes the sixth straight winner by the Indians.

SIX RECEIVE SAC POST-SEASON HONORS Six Catawba players earned post-season honors from the South Atlantic Conference. CatcherWill Albertson, pitcher Craig Brooks, outfielder BlakeHoustonanddesignatedhitterT.J.WhartonwerefirstteamselectionsfortheIndians. Pitcher Shaefer Shepard was a second team pick, while relief pitcher Ryan McClintock collected honorable mention honors. Wharton and Houston sit just behind Albertson in batting average for Catawba. Wharton is currently hitting .404 with Houston sporting a .400 average. Wharton has swatted 10 home runs with 50 RBI, both second best on the team. Houston leads the team with 66 runs and has drawn a nation’s best 43 walks. Shepard has matched Brooks with eight wins on the season. He has completed four of his 12 starts and has a 4.13 ERA. Over 69.2 innings, Shepard has allowed 76 hits with 24 walks and 60 strikeouts. McClintock stands second in the league with six saves and has notched a 2.25 ERA. He has surrendered 22 hits over 24 innings with 17 striekouts to just four walks.

CATAWBA DROPS TWO ON FINAL DAY OF SAC TOURNAMENT Catawba went into Monday’s SAC Tournament championship day undefeated, butfelltwicetoWingatetofinishastherunner-up.WillAlbertson,LukeSetzer,Dylan Richardson and Ryan McClintock were named to the All-Tournament team. Albertson bated an even .500 (11-for-22) with two homers and 11 RBI. Setzer also belted a pair of homers while hitting .316 and driving in eight runs. CATAWBA REMAINS FIRST IN REGIONAL POLL Catawba remained the top team in the NCAA II Southeast Region Poll through games of April 26. The Indians went 2-2 last week with one game remaining on theschuedule.ThefinalregionalpollwillbereleasedonMay6withtheregionalannouncement to come on Sunday. The Indians are ahead of North Georgia, Columbus State and UNC Pembroke. The three tournament winners from the South Atlantic Conference, the Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas will gain automatic berths in the NCAA Regional Tournament. North Greenville and Wingate have already secured berths. Three at-large teams will also be selected from the remaing highest ranked teams. The NCAA Regionals begin on May 14.

ALBERTSON SETS HOME RUN AND RBI RECORD Will Albertson connected on a school and South Atlantic Conference record 25th homerunoftheseasoninthefinalgameoftheSACTournament.DavidTrexler(1999) and Jerry Sands (2008) had hit 24 homers in a season for Catawba. Wingate’s Darren Hayes had also hit 24 in a season. Albertson also set a Catawba record in RBI for a season with 87. Sands had held the previous mark of 25 RBI duing the 2008 season. The conference record is held by Hayes, who had 90 in 1995.

BROOKS AND ALBERTSON SEMIFINALISTS FOR D2 NATIONAL AWARDS CraigBrooksandWillAlbertsonhavebeennamedassemifinalistsforthetopawards in NCAA II baseball. Brooks is on the list for the Brett Tomko D2 Pitcher oftheYearAwardforthesecondstraightyear.Brookswasafinalistlastseason.Albertson is on the list for the Tino Martinez D2 Player of they Year Award.

ALBERTSON CLOSE TO NCAA II TRIPLE CROWN Will Albertson has put up numbers this year that has him chasing the triple crown for NCAA II which includes the categories of batting average, home runs and RBI. The junior leads the nation in batting average and ranks third in home runs and RBI.

CATAWBA CLAIMS THIRD STRAIGHT SAC CROWN Catawba claimed its third straight SAC Championship with a dramatic come-from-behindwalkoffwinoverTusculuminthefirstgameofSaturday’sdoubleheader.T.J. Wharton was hit by a pitch to force home the tying run and Craig Brooks hit a sacrificeflytoscoreBlakeHoustonwiththewinningrun. Catawba has now won or shared the conference championship in eight of the past 12 seasons. Since 2002, Catawba has either won a conference title of SAC tournament title in all but three seasons. One of those years was in 2012 when the Indians went on to claim the regional title and advance to the NCAA II Championshps. The other two years were 2003 and 2007.

SHEPARD GRABS SAC POW HONOR Sophomore Shaefer Shepard notched his fourth complete game of the year against Mars Hill and took home SAC Pitcher of the Week honors. Shepard allowed just one run off six hits over seven innings with a walk and seven strikeouts. He helped the Indians bounce back after a loss in the opener of the series.

BOWDEN’S STREAK ENDS ChanceBowdensawhitteamseasonlonghittingstreakendat17inthefirstgameofheWingateseries.Thefreshmannearlykeptitgoingwithaflyballtothewall that just missed a home run that would have put the Indians up 12-11 in the eighth.

McCLINTOCK GOES OVER 100 APPEARANCES Senior Ryan McClintock set a record last week for the most appearances in a career by a Catawba pitcher. He pitched in all three games over the weekend to push his games over the 100 mark. He picked up a win and a save on Saturday against Wingate.

ALBERTSON TIES ANOTHER RECORD Will Albertson put his name along side another shcool record as he posted eight RBI in the 19-1 win over Winston-Salem State. The junior went 4-for-5 with a pair of homers, including a grand slam.

BROOKS EARNS SAC AND REGION HONORS Senior Craig Brooks claimed both SAC and NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week honors on March 31. Brooks had two wins and faced the minimum of 30 batters over 10 innings during two appearances. In relief against WSSU, Brooks fanned 10 in four innings and surrendered one hit. He also gave up just one hit in six shutout innings at Coker with a career-high 14 strikeouts.

BROOKS HITS CENTURY MARK Craig Brooks has notched 100 strikeouts for the second straight year. He joins Heath Bost and JJ Jankowski as the only pitchers to reach triple digits in strikeouts in back-to-back seasons.

FOURTH STRAIGHT SAC SWEEP With its sweep of Coker, Catawba made it four straight three-game sweeps in league competition which has the Indians at the top of the standings. Catawba has currently won 25 of 27 games.

ALBERTSON ENJOYS TORRID HITTING STRETCH IN MARCH Will Albertson collected 43 hits in the month of March. Over a recent 11 game span he went 38-of-48 (.792). It included eight doubles, a triple and eight home runs. Albertson had driven in 26 in the 11 games, while scoring 22 runs.

ALBERTSON REPEATS AS SAC AND REGION PLAYER OF WEEK Will Albertson was once again named SAC and NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week.FortheweekendingMarch22,thejuniorwas13-of-19(.684)withfivedoubles,a triple and a pair of homers. He drove in 13 runs and scored eight times. Albertson had four hits in two of the four mulit-hit efforts.

HOUSTON WALKS INTO RECORD BOOK IntheseriesopeneratAnderson,BlakeHoustonsetanewschoolrecordbywalkingfivetimes in the win. He scored six runs which tied the existing record which he now shares with Craige Lyerly. The senior moved into ninth place on the career runs scored list as he crossed the plate a dozen times in the four games last week. Houston had a 16-game hitting snapped at Winston-Salem State which was a team-high for this season. T.J. Wharton had a 14-game streak earlier this year.

ALBERTSON PICKS UP SAC, REGION & NATIONAL PLAYER OF WEEK LAURELS Will Albertson parlayed his outstanding week where he was 12-for-15 (.800) with three doubles and three homers into SAC, NCBWA Southeast Region and NCBWA Division II Hitter of the Week honors. The junior had three multi-hit games and drove in six runs.

ALBERTSON NOTCHES TWO RECORDS DURING HOT STREAK Junior transfer Will Albertson had a six game stretch that ended Sunday, March 15, where he at one point had hits in 20 of 22 at bats. During that run he set a school record by reaching base in 14 straight plate appearances. He had two four hit games, two three hit gamesandonefivehitgame.Heconnectedonthreehomerunsduringhisfive-hitgamewhich tied a school record.

HOUSTON GETS SAC AND REGION PLAYER OF WEEK HONORS Blake Houston was tabbed not only as the SAC Player of the week on M/10, but also took home NCBWA All-Southeast Region Player of the Week accolades. The senior went 8-for-15 (.571) at the plate in the four wins and collected nine RBI. He had multi-hit efforts in the three of the four games with three hits and four RBI in the opener with Lenoir-Rhyne.

BROOKS TAKES SAC HONOR Craig Brooks earned SAC Pitcher of the Week honos on M/3 after posting a pair of wins during the week. He got his week started with a no-hitter on Monday against Brevard. He followed that up with a win at Newberry, tossing eight innings and surrendering two earned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.

WHARTON HAS BIG FEBRUARY Senior T.J. Wharton had a huge February at the plate, hitting an even .500. The senior was30-for-60withfivedoublesandtwohomeruns.Heknockedin14runsandscored14.He ranked among league leaders in average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

BROOKS TWIRLS NO-HITTER Catawba senior Craig Brooks threw just the sixth no-hitter in school history against Brevard onMonday.Inthefirstgameofthedoubleheader,Brookswentthecompleteseven-innings,walking three, hitting one and fanning six. Catawba’s last no-hitter was a combined effort in 2003 with the last complete game no-hitter coming in 1988.

RICHARDSON GRABS SAC HONORS Shortstop Dylan Richardson grabbed the initial conference Player of the Week honors after he batted .727 with 10 RBI and a pair of home runs in Catawba’s opening series of the year. The junior helped Catawba win two of three games, hitting a grand slam and collecting seven RBI in the 27-7 win to begin the season.

SEASON-OPENING BLOWOUT Catawba tied a school record for runs scored in the season-opening 27-7 thumping of Belmont Abbey. The Indians had back-to-back eight run frames in the sixth and seventh inningswhilescoringineachinningbutthefirst.

JOHNSON POSTS SIX SHUTOUT FRAMES IN COLLEGIATE DEBUT Freshman Connor Johnson won the rubber game of the three-game series with Belmont Abbey, tossing six innings of scoreless ball. The lefty allowed just two singles and walked with eight strikeouts.
