4-H Project News
The first Ag Products ID practice will be held on March 3, 2016 at the First Baptist
Church in Pleasanton at 6:00p.m. Come Join Our Team!
Here’s a brief glimpse of the contest: 20 Texas agricultural products are selected and exhibited at separate stations. Contestants select the correct identification of each product from four possible answers. Each station also has one multiple choice question pertaining to the product on display. Questions are general to the industry that produced the product, (i.e. Texas’ national ranking, economic impact to Texas, general nutritional content, region of production) and specific to the individual product that is on display (i.e. cooking method, use, growing season, specific nutri-tion of the cut or variety). Contestants are given 40 seconds at each station to an-swer both questions. Products can range from garlic to a rib-eye steak. In this man-ual, you will find example products from the contest, the contest set up, rules, and photos so you can begin to train your very own Agricultural Identification Team.

Community
Service Twice a year, Tractor Supply Com-pany sponsors a Paper Clover Fund-raiser that supports national and lo-cal 4-H programs. This year, the campaign generated a donation in the amount of $1,400.00 for Atasco-sa 4-H. This money will be used to fund county wide events and pro-jects. The La Parita 4-H club partici-pated in selling clovers during the week of the fundraiser and our part of the donations almost doubled this year from past amounts. Our Pleasanton store was a Class Cham-pion, and was second in the region as Regional Champions (top performing stores based on transaction rate) and Regional Champions Most Improved Store. Presenting the ribbon awards to store members are front row l to r Shyann Meyer, Annalisa Duck, Garrison Vyvlecka and Drake Vyvlecka. Back row l to r are Tasha Meyer, club manager, Lydia Jackson and Bennett Jackson. Many thanks to TSC and the La Parita club for making this campaign so successful. The next Paper Clover campaign will start in April.
Come Learn all about 4-H Recordbooks
Luis Saldana, District 12 4-H and Youth Development Extension Program Specialist, will present a county-wide Recordbook Workshop on April 5, 2016 at the County Extension Office in Leming at 6:00p.m.
What is a Texas 4-H Recordbook? A recordbook consists of information that a 4-H mem-ber records over the course of a 4-H year that docu-ments his/her goals, knowledge and skills gained, leadership experiences, awards earned, and service in his/her community. Those experiences are recorded into forms, narratives, and a story written by the 4-H member. The information is printed, bound in a cover, and is typically submitted for evaluation. Recordkeeping is a valuable skill taught to members of the Texas 4-H program. Members are encouraged
to keep project records and have these records reviewed annually by submitting a Texas 4-H Recordbook. The primary purposes of completing a recordbook are for a young person to de-velop the skills necessary to set goals, work toward achieving those goals, reflect on his/her ex-periences, and set new and higher goals for themselves. A secondary benefit is to prepare young people for the process of completing quality academic scholarship applications.
