    Role strain may be expressed as a feeling offrustration when a person feels inadequate orfeels unsituated to a role.

    Role strain is often associated with gender rolestereotypes (sundeen and others 1998)

    Women in position typically held by men may

    be perceived by others as less competent, lessobjective or less knowledgeable than theirmale counterparts. thus they may feel that theymust must work harder and be better to

    compete.
