Mothers Versus Sons
“Two rather unorthodox cricket matches were played at the Kelburn Reserve yesterday when mothers of Wellesley College pupils met their sons in games of one innings. A thin drizzle of rain made conditions rather unpleasant, but all the players faced up to the elements and much enjoyment was gained from the matches. The boys’ first eleven beat the mothers by 83 runs to 75, the highest scorer for the mothers being Mrs P.B. Cooke who made 30, and the boys’ second eleven won by 197 runs to 91, Mrs Eric Lawson being top scorer for the mothers with 34. An attractive afternoon tea was one of the features of the afternoon.”
