All-Time Series vs. NJITColumbia will meet NJIT for the first time in program history. This season, the Lions have seven opponents on their schedule they had not played before this season – Denver, Florida Atlantic, Long-wood, Mercer, NJIT, Northern Colorado and West Virginia. Colum-bia is 1-4 so far this season against those unfamiliar opponents. The Lions will face one more unseen opponent after this game, at home against Longwood on Jan. 21.

Dwyer Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for Third TimeColumbia’s Lauren Dwyer (CC-Reno, Nev.) was named Rookie of the Week on January 2. Having scored in double figures in four straight games, Dwyer continued her consistent play in the Lions’ last two games, totaling double figures against Loyola and Sacred Heart. Against Loyola, Dwyer notched her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards. In the game vs. Sacred Heart, Dwyer also had 14 points in just 24 minutes. Over the past four games, Dwyer is averaging 13.5 per contest and continues to lead Columbia in scoring with 11.6 points per game. This season, Dwyer leads Columbia in scor-ing (11.6/game) and is second in rebounding (4.9/game) while av-eraging 24 minutes per game. Dwyer currently ranks eighth in the Ivy League in scoring and leads all Ivy League first-years. Dwyer's award was the sixth time in the previous 20 weeks that a Lion has earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors. Dwyer (three times) and current sophomores Danielle Browne (BC-Mount Vernon, N.Y.), who won it twice, and Chelsea Frazier (BC-Gold-en Valley, Minn.) each have been recipients since the beginning of the 2006-07 season.

Frazier Playing Well off the BenchAfter being hampered by an injury in November, sophomore Chelsea Frazier (BC-Golden Valley, Minn.) has contributed off the bench lately for Columbia and continued to be a strong pres-ence on both ends of the court in December. Frazier earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll after a pair of solid games on the road last week at Loyola (Md.) and Sacred Heart. Against Loyola, she had seven points, six rebounds and two blocks in 23 minutes. Frazier then picked up her sixth career double-double and her second of the season at Sacred Heart with 13 points and 10 rebounds in addition to three blocked shots. This season, she is second on the team in scoring at 9.8/game and leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 per contest.

Swishing and DishingSophomore guard Danielle Browne (BC-Mount Vernon, N.Y.) has turned it on recently, averaging 10 points per game in the last nine games despite being held scoreless once during that

stretch, against 16th-ranked West Virginia, when she fouled out in 17 minutes. Browne posted a season-high 20 points against Army at home on Nov. 25 and has scored in double figures in five of the last eight games. Browne also narrowly missed a dou-ble-doubled against Denver on Dec. 7 when she had a terrific all-around game with 10 points and a career-high nine assists on the road. The nine assists were the most by a Columbia player since Patricia Kern '02EN had 10 in a game against Penn in Febru-ary of 2002. Browne currently ranks third in the Ivy League with 4.1 assists per game.

How Do You Gage Success?Back for her senior season is senior captain Michele Gage (CC-San Ra-fael, Calif.), who missed all of last season due to injury. As a sophomore in 2005-06, Gage was the team's second-leading scorer at 11.4 points per game and the 5-11 guard was the team's leading rebounder at 6.7 boards per game. Last time out against Sacred Heart, Gage came off the bench to register her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. It was the sixth double-double of her career and both figures were season highs.

Take Car-for-a DriveLast season, senior Brittney Carfora (CC-Branford, Conn.) finished second on the team in points per game (10.5/game), paced by a strong finish to the season. Carfora started 14 of the last 15 games of the 2006-07 season, av-eraging 12.6 points over the last 16 games and finished in double digits in each of the last seven games. This season, she has averaged 8.1 points per game, inlcuding a season-high 15 points on Dec. 22 at Loyola (Md.). Against Army on Nov. 25, Carfora made two three-pointers to move into

ninth place all-time on the Columbia career list for three-pointers made.

Ask and Yee Shall PassAfter serving as Megan Griffith's understudy last season, sophomore point guard Sara Yee (EN-Walnut, Calif.) has started 10 of the first 11 games this season, averaging a team-high 30.9 minutes per game. Against Loyola (Md.) on Dec. 22, Yee had a solid game with five points, a career-high six rebounds and three assists without a turnover in 22 minutes. Yee then nearly matched that line last time out at Sacred Heart with five points, six rebounds and two assists without a turnover in 31 minutes.

Shuffling the DeckColumbia mixed up its starting lineup for the Sacred Heart game as sopho-more Caitlin Stachon (CC-Urban-dale, Iowa) made her first start of the season and junior Katrina Cragg (CC-Jupiter, Fla.) made her second start. Senior Brittney Carfora (CC-Branford, Conn.) played 24 minutes and claassmate Michele Gage (CC-San Rafael, Calif.) saw 29 minutes of action off the bench to provide addi-tional scoring punch in reserve. Gage ended up with her best stat line of the season with 15 points and 10 re-bounds.
