INTRODUCTION

The Custom Metrics module allows you to create quick and

easy custom metrics based on your needs.

The aim of Custom Metrics is to allow you to customise and

complete the metrics which are available to you. You will then

be able to directly access the information that is important to

you without having to rework the data. Your KPIs will be

available as part of this information, which you will then be able

to integrate into your reports.

Reminder

Custom Metrics are only available with the Data Explorer module (which also gives you access to Data Query)

THE BASICS

The metrics can be accessed via the M tab which is available at

the top right of the analysis tables on the Analyzer interface.

Metrics are specific to each analysis.

But only administrators, power users and users with custom rights

having full rights on 1 site can create custom metrics.

The Custom Metrics interface can be accessed from:

o The Metrics menu of the

Data Query interface

o Analyzer interface (in a view

PRESENTATION OF THE INTERFACE

The list of metrics, custom metrics and segments which

can be used to create your custom metrics is available on

the menu on the left.

In the work space you will find all of the

different operators which can be used to

create custom metrics by placing them in

the area underneath.

o Other custom metrics

o Segments

o Operations

Segments can be created via the Segmentation interface which

can be accessed through the Custom Metrics interface.

CREATING A SEGMENT

Page 10: AT Internet Webinar - Personalise your metrics

To create a custom metric you need to:

o Construct your custom metric

o Select the correct output format

o Name it

CREATING A CUSTOM METRIC

You can create:

o A segmented metric

For example, visits from France

You can create:

o The ratio between a segmented metric and a non-

segmented metric

For example, the ratio between visits from France and all visits

You can create:

o An operation between a custom metric and a segmented

metric

For example, the sum of the custom metric V FROM BELGIUM and

visits coming from France

You can create:

o An operation between two custom metrics

For example, the sum of visits from France and visits from Belgium

You can create:

o An operation between a metric and a number

For example, calculating total sales turnover (incl taxes) based on

the new VAT rate

QUESTIONS TO BE ASKED

Which operation would I like to carry out?

Which metrics will my custom metric be based on?

Will I need to use a previously created custom metric?

Do I need to apply a segment to an entire metric, or to just part

of a metric?

What output format should be used for my custom metric?

What will the name of my custom metric be?

A CUSTOM METRIC ONLY IF…

Custom metrics should only be used if:

o You want to carry out operations between two standard metrics

on the interface

For example: finding out the number of page views per visitor

o You want to multiply a metric by a numerical value

For example: obtaining a sales figure inclusive of all taxes by

multiplying the figure by 1.196

o You want to apply a segment to just one metric

For example: finding out the number of visits coming from France

A CUSTOM METRIC ONLY IF…

Custom metrics should only be used if:

o You want to carry out operations between a basic metric and a

custom metric

For example: finding out the share of visits coming from France

compared to the total number of visits

o You want to carry out operations between custom metrics

For example: finding out the total number of visits coming from

France and Italy

Numeric format: “Visits” with the segment “Hourly traffic (Server times) >

20:00 + 21:00 + 22:00”

8. The share of interested visits (VS > 10 and Time spent > 10 mins)

Percentage format: [“Visits” with the segment “VS per V > 10 AND Time

spent > 10 mins”] / “Visits”For the segment:

- VS/V: select all items > 10 from the metric VS/V and make sure theyare “included”, or select all items up to 10 and make sure that they are “excluded”

- Time spent: select the following items from the Time spent metric: between 10 mins and 20 mins, between 20 mins and 30 mins, 30 mins
