The resource person talked about the traditional methods of calculating the passage of the celestial bodies and how modern astronomic methods do the same calculations. The talk also touched upon the possible origin of some of the prevalent superstitions in India concerning eclipses. In the modern age, people have gained a greater understanding of the significance of celestial phenomenon and are increasingly looking up to the heavens with wonder. The practice of amateur astronomy and star gazing is apt to inculcate a sense of scientific curiosity in young minds. A college like SH has a great part to play in fostering these impulses and allowing students to explore frontier areas of science.
