TOMELLERI s.r.l. started its activities back in 1984, developing projects (feasibility studies and designs) in astronomy and other sectors (such as machine tools, measuring machines, robotics, etc). Since 1995, it has also made supplies in the field of Subsystems of Telescopes and Instruments, and other products as a result of the research in different fields with many patents filed.

TOMELLERI has been and still is involved in major telescope projects in relation to Bearing, Drive and Measurement Systems, as well as Instruments and special devices, conceived in cooperation with the main Italian Astronomical and Astrophysical Observatories (e.g. Arcetri, Padua, Rome, Bologna, Capodimonte, Merate ), the European Southern Observatory, the Max Planck Institute, as well as some Observatories in the USA, namely the Stewart Observatory in Tucson and the TMT Observatory Corporation in Pasadena.At present TOMELLERI facility is on 900 m2 area, 300 m2

offices and 600 m2 for assembling, with 18 mechanical and electronic technicians, and five engineers.

TOMELLERI IN ASTRONOMY

TOMELLERI provides research, feasibility studies, design and workshop drawings using CAD systems (Pro-E, AutoCad, Inventor), programs for structural calculations (ANSYS Design Space, Solidworks), as well as dynamic system simulation tools (MATLAB & SimuLink).Most of the projects are then realized including: manufacturing, accuracy test by CMM or by Articulated Arm Measuring Machines , assembly, performance verification, that can be performed with appropriate Test Benches if required . Design and supply of the electrical and electronic parts, hardware and software, are also carried out. Delivery and on site assistance can be provided were requested.

TOMELLERI cooperates with BCV progetti, based in Milan, for structural and optical design.Since 1973 BCV progetti is an engineering firm dealing with projects and subsequent realisation of civil and mechanical works and equipments for ground – space astronomy.Involving about fifteen engineers produces about 25000-30000 hours yearly of engineering plus the necessary drawings.

TOMELLERI cooperates with FORMENTI company that is equipped with horizontal and vertical lathes, boring and milling machines, machines for drilling , grinding, as well as measuring machines for testing the pieces.
