    5. Terminology, Specific5.1 Definitions ofTerms Specific to This Specification:5.1.1 capable of-the test need not be performed by theproducer of the material. However, should subsequenttesting by the purchaser establish that the material does notmeet these requirements, the material shall be subject torejection.5.1.2 unaided eye-without visual enhancement; however, corrective spectacles necessary to obtain normal visionshall be permitted.

    6. Materia l and Manufacture6.1 Material-The material of manufacture shall be billets, bars, or tube of Copper UNS9 No. C10100, C10200,C10300, C10800, C12000, or C12200, and shall be of suchsoundness as to be suitable for processing into the tubularproducts described.6.2 Manufacture--'-The tube shall be manufactured bysllch hot- and cold-working processes as to produce ahomogeneous, uniform wrought structure in the finishedproduct. I t shall be cold drawn to the finished size and wallthickness. When cold-drawn temper is required, the finaldrawing operation shall be, such as to meet the specifiedtemper. When annealed temper is required, the tube shall beannealed subsequent to the final cold draw.9 Refer to Practice E 527 for explanation of unified numbering system (iJNS).

Chemical Composition7.1 The material shall conform to the requirements inTable 1 for the specified Copper UNS No. designation.7.1.1 These specification limits do not preclude the presence of other elements. Limits are permitted to be established and analysis required for unnamed elements byagreement between the manufacturer or supplier and the

    purchaser.8. temper

    8.1 The requirements and size availability of tube in thecold-drawn tempers H55, H58, an d H80, as defined inPractice B 601, are specified in Table 2.8.1.1 Rectangular, including square, tube shall normallybe supplied only in H58 temper, however, tube in H55 orH80 temper is permitted to be supplied as agreed uponbetween the manufacturer and the purchaser.8.1.1.1 For any combination of diameter and 'wall thickness not listed under H80 temper, the e q u i r e m ~ n t s specifiedfor H58 temper shall apply.8.2 The requirements and size availability of tube in theannealed t e m ~ r s 050' and 060, as defined in PracticeB 601, are specified in Table 2. .

    14.1 When specified in the contract or purchase order,tubes produced in all designated copper material shall becapable ofconforming to the requirements ofProcedure B ofTest Methods B 577.15. Purchases for U.s. Government Agencies

    16.3 Hydrostatic Pressure Test-When specified in thecontract or purchase order, each tube shall be capable ofwithstanding an internal hydrostatic pressure sufficient toproduce a fiber stress of 6000 psi without leakage. The tubeneed not be subjected to a pressure gage reading over 1000psi unless specifically stipulated in the contract or purchaseorder.16.4 Pneumatic Pressure Test-When specified in thecontract or purchase order, each tube shall be capable ofwithstanding an internal air pressure of 60 psi, minimum, for5 s without leakage.

    18.3 Other Tests-Specimens for all other tests shall betaken from two of he sample portions taken in 18.1.2. In theevent only one sample portion is taken, all specimens shallbe taken from the portion selected.19. Number of Tests and Retests

    20.4 Grain S i z e ~ T e s t specimens shall be prepared inaccordance with the appropriate procedure in Test MethodsE3.20.5 Electrical Resistivity:20.5.1 Th e test specimen shall be full size ,and shall be thefull cross section, of he material it represents when possible.20.5.2 When the test specimen is taken from material in

    bulk, care shall be taken that the properties are no t appre-,ciably altered in the preparation.Nom 4-Plastic deformation tends to work-harden a material and

    raise its resistivity, while heating tends to anneal the material with asubsequent reduction in resistivity.20.5.2.1 When necessary, products are to be rolled or cOld

At least two specimens ofa length sufficient to accommodate the testing equipmentshall be cut from one end of the wire an d annealed atapproximate ly 935 wop for 30 min in an inert atmosphereand rapidly cooled to ambient temperature without undueexposure to air. .

    15.1 When the contract or purchase order stipulates thepurchase is for an agency of the U.S. Government, the tubesfurnished shall conform to the conditions specified in theSupplementary Requirements of Specification B 251M.16. Nondestructive Test

    16.1 The tubes shall be tested in the drawn tempers or asdrawn prior to the final-annealed temper unless otherwiseagreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.16.2 Electromagnetic (Eddy Cu"ent) Test:16.2.1 Each tube up to and including 79 mm in outsidediameter shall be subjected to test.16.2.2 When tested in accordance with Practice E 243,tubes which do not actuate the signaling device of the testing

    20.5 Electrical Resistivity:20.5.1 Th e test specimen shall be full size and shall be thefull cross section of the material it represents when possible.20.5.2 When the test specimen is taken from material inbulk, care shall be taken that the properties are not appreciably altered in the preparation.NOTE 4--PJastic deformation tends to work-harden a material andraise its resistivity, while heating tends to anneal the material with asubsequent reduction in resistivity.20.5.2.1 When necessary, products are to be rolled or colddrawn to a wire approximately 2 mm in diameter (12 gage

Testing shall follow theprocedures in Practice E 243. Tubes shall be passed throughan eddy-current test unit adjusted to provide information onthe suitability of the tube for th e intended application.21.2.8.1 Either notch depth or drilled hole standards shallbe used.(a) Notch depth standards, rounded to the nearest 0.025mm shall be 22 % of the wall thickness.
