Assorted Transitional Video Element Ideas

By Alex and Eddie

What is Transitional Video Elements?

• We have decided to have two main aspects to our Music video. The first is the performance of the band playing on stage. The second element is of random objects, old and new that will work as short few second clips that flash up when transitioning between the shots of the band performing on stage. Thus the name we have given to them ‘Transitional Video Elements’

• We have many different ideas for these transitional video elements that we will cover in this presentation.

Idea One: AM Stencil

• The first idea we have had is to make a stencil of the AM branding (either the wavelength or the bands actual logo) and spray it onto abandoned buildings and objects of like like.

• We would use removable spray paint to ensure we are not vandalising and would clean it off immediately.

Idea Two: Smash CRT Monitor

• The second Idea we have had is to smash a CRT monitor and record it in slow motion to create an interesting transition clip.

• We would ensure that the monitor was cleared up afterwards and that it had been electrically discharged as CRT monitors store a high Voltage.

Idea Three: Manual Focus Shifting Lights

• The third idea we have had is to film with our DSLR’s at night in manual so we can shift focus. This will create a bokeh effect where the lights will appear spread out. This would be very effective if also used in black and white like the rest of our footage. A good place to film this would be on top of the multi-storey car park in Bury St Edmunds.

Idea Four: Hyperlapse

• The fourth idea we have is to film a hyperlapse in the front of someones car during a journey. It would create fast flowing footage that would work great as transition footage when in black and white to match the rest of the theme to the music video.

Idea five: Smoke and Lighting

• The fifth Idea we have is to use a combination of the smoke machine we have purchased and flood lighting/film lighting to film in near darkness to create footage that shows of specific objects such as the Retro Microphone we have purchased.

Idea Six: Fire and Burning

• The sixth idea we have is burning things such as matches, steel wool, sparklers etc anything that is easy to burn and creates an interesting effect. Then filming it in 240FPS slow motion to create a great looking transition clip when in black and white.
