Greater Philadelphia Chapter
2011 was an exciting year for AFP and the Greater Philadelphia Chapter. The year was full of
growth, financial strength, volunteer engagement, and learning. I sincerely hope your organizations have enjoyed similar successes and identified creative approaches to overcome any challenges you faced throughout the year. AFP-GPC strives to be an invalu-able partner to fundraising professionals in supporting the growing demands and unique needs of develop-ment efforts for our region’s diverse and exceptional non-profit organizations. We hope we met, if not exceeded, this goal in 2011 and that the efforts of our volunteers, supporters, and board members have positioned the chapter for greater success in serving fundraisers for years to come.
In 2011, AFP-GPC offered 12 member orientation webinars, networking breakfasts and evening events, 11 programs and web conferences, sold out ses-sions for the two-day Fundamentals of Fundraising program, and two-day CFRE Review Course. AFP-GPC also offered a day of learning and networking at the Franklin Forum with 300+ attendees and a sold out 2011 National Philanthropy Day luncheon where 650+ guests joined us in honoring 10 awardees and recog-nizing 12 distinguished honorees. We also had an ac-tive mentor program that supported fundraisers new to the profession and provided incredible personal and professional experiences for everyone involved.
In sum, we had approximately 1,650 people partici-pating throughout the year in AFP-GPC programs and activities. We are also thrilled to share that approxi-mately $15,000 was budgeted for scholarships sup-porting fundraising professionals to attend events and become new members with AFP. This is tremendous and the direct result of the hard work and dedication of our chapter volunteers, as well as the commitment from non-profit organizations, corporations, and individuals who support AFP-GPC.
The initiatives and achievements of the year were truly made possible by organizations and individuals who value and invest their resources of time, talent, and treasure in AFP-GPC’s membership, committees, programs, and scholarships. The chapter is truly grateful for the generous benefactors who helped us offer outstanding educational and networking opportunities through direct financial contributions,
sponsorships, and in-kind donations of space, food, and expertise.
With the strong support of our members and friends, AFP-GPC explored strategic partnerships and collaborations essential to building opportunities, identifying new resources for the region’s fundraising professionals, and reach-ing broader, more diverse communities. An example of these partnerships is the new dialogue and subse-quent initiatives with the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. Throughout the year, the chapter and the Cultural Alliance have explored the need for develop-ment professionals in arts and culture organizations, engaged members of our respective organizations in the discussions, and conceptualized learning oppor-tunities, networking events, and reciprocal member benefits. These plans will be put into action in early 2012, and the strategic partnership will hopefully serve as a model for future collaborations.
As you will read in this Annual Report, we have ex-perienced many successes this year. We are sincerely proud of the growth, new programs, and enhanced member resources, as well as the active participa-tion of our volunteers, leaders in the profession, and non-profit organizations throughout our region. Whatever your role: as a board member, volunteer leader, advocate, or donor, you have contributed to our success. We continue to value your feedback and thoughts and welcome you to contact us anytime at [email protected] or 215-320-3871.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the chapter as your president for another promising year filled with innovative programs, new partnerships, strategic alliances, and engaging networking and mentoring opportunities. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming AFP-GPC committee meeting or event!

Many of us have had the enriching opportunity to work with supervisors, board members, or colleagues who have become mentors. The
rest of us wish we had someone along the way to support us in both the exciting and challenging times of our careers. AFP-GPC is proud to offer a mentoring program.
In the 2010-2011 program, 17 successful pairings were made.

Program Committee
In 2011, members of the chapter’s program com-mittee worked enthusiastically to coordinate a robust series of educational sessions designed
to meet the needs of AFP-GPC members and friends. Half-day workshop sessions were held on the following topics:• Planned Giving• Board Development• Volunteer Management• Prospect Research• Diversity• Systems – wide Approach to Fundraising• Data Base Management• CFRE Preparation
Shorter program offerings in the form of web confer-ences, breakfast meetings, roundtable discussions, conference calls, or brown bag lunches were also held.
The committee also coordinated 10 networking break-fasts throughout the region during the year. These
networking sessions were geared toward either specific affinity groups or regional groups and were designed so attendees could network with colleagues from their respective interest areas.
The committee already has an exciting array of edu-cational programs planned for 2012. Please visit our website at www.afpgpc.org to learn more about upcom-ing programs, or apply to AFP-GPC’s speaker’s bureau to become an AFP presenter.
The program committee meets monthly to plan upcom-ing educational sessions and networking breakfasts. If you would like more information about joining the program committee, please contact the chapter office. New members are always welcome.
Educating New Fundraisers Continuing our commitment to educating new fundrais-ers, we produced the Fundamentals of Fundraising course offered at Villanova University and the Essen-tials of Fundraising program.
AFP-GPC’s 2012 Franklin Forum is scheduled for May 3,m 2012. The event will again be at ACE Conference Center in Lafayette Hill. Please join
