We will create an Institute for the enhancement and innovation of teaching and learning, which will work across the institution to inform, consolidate and drive enhancement in our educational provision at an institutional level, with a particular focus on enhancing our use of IT in the delivery of education.

Therehavealreadybeensignificantachievements:theUniversityhasaworldleadingreputation for working with students as partners on digital literacies and capabilities and employability skills; the Southampton Opportunity programme was commended in a recent QAA Higher Education Review; we have recently created 10 MOOCs on the FutureLearn platform, and these MOOCs have helped build capacity inside the University in online learning. But there are many challenges ahead and academic stafftaketimeandpersuasiontoseehowthebusinessmodelforresearchintensiveuniversities is changing.

ILIaD’smissionistodevelopthestaffthatwilldeliver21stcenturyeducationandresearch. The forthcoming TEF will change teaching practice and in the future our curriculumstructures,teachingdeliveryandextensionactivitieswilloffergreaterflexibility,enablingstudentstopersonalisetheirlearningandtoparticipateinteachingprogrammes connected to all parts of the globe.

Following increased funding we are now able to appoint two Assistant Directors who will havecentralrolesinsteeringtheInstituteinthefuture.Thepeoplewhofillthesepostswill need to have the diplomacy, skills, energy and experience of change agency to help the university to achieve its ambition to revolutionise education. Job Purpose

To develop and deliver the University’s Education Enhancement and Innovation/Technology Enhanced Learning strategy, harnessing current and emerging technologies to broaden our reach and increase flexibility, enabling students to personalise their learning and to participate in teaching programmes connected to all parts of the globe.

To teach on accredited and other staff development programmes.

To undertake and publish research in Education Enhancement and Innovation /Technology enhanced learning in line with the Institute’s research strategy.

To actively engage in internal, national and international networks and forums, confirming the University’s place and expertise in the national debate.

1.   To lead the development and implementation of the Education Enhancement strategy for the University supporting the achievement of the University goal to revolutionise education and enhance the educational experience of Southampton students, in particular through innovative use of technology. Evaluation of impact of initiatives.

2.   To identify emerging educational good practice and theory and to provide expert advice and guidance to the University executive and faculty management teams, working in close partnership with key internal stakeholders across the University, to ensure change programmes meet the needs and priorities of faculties, academic units and professional services.

3.   To lead and develop the ILIaD Education Innovation unit, enabling enhancement of individual and collective performance, agility of service in response to internal or sectoral change and establishment of a national reputation as a centre of excellence.

4.   To develop and sustain a national and international reputation for original research in a relevant area of Educational Enhancement or Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), playing a leading role in the HE sector’s national debates, and disseminating and explaining findings through leading peer-reviewed publications, conferences, exhibitions, and other appropriate media.

5.   To work with iSolutions on defining and implementing the tools and functionality that should form the Southampton Learning Environment for students on and off campus.

6.   To develop links with external bodies, providers and contacts, such as JISC, HEA, ALT and Futurelearn to foster collaboration. To deputise for the Director of ILIaD on Internal and national and international boards and committees as required.

7.   To collaborate with the Assistant Director (Professional Development) to ensure that all educational and CPD programmes include appropriate TEL content and to teach on such programmes.
