General challenges in international assisted return in Sweden

Preparedness to give support regardless where the victim is found in Sweden and regardless country of return!

limited knowledge on assisted (international) return

290 municipalities and social services

lack of ear-marked funding for costly return and reintegration

lack of possibilities to maintain updated information on suitable recipients, service providers and return programmes in the countries of origin

difficulties to give support in the entire return process, including re-integration

Support in three stages

1. Pre-departure phase

information & counselling to social services family-tracing, tracing of child protection authorities,

family assessments (if embassies of CoO is unable) acquisition of travel documents needs assessment and available support in CoO travel arrangements, incl. tickets, itineraries risk and security assessment

2. Travel

provision of escorts transit assistance at airports

3. Post-arrival

reception assistance onward transportation referral to partners, as necessary reintegration assistance, monitoring and follow-up

Re-integration support (three months)

Safe housing

Someone to talk to - therapist, psychologist

Contact with health care (STD, HIV, Asthma, TBC)

Re-insertion into school

Legal aid to the family (divorce, custody rights, acquiring ID, health insurance)

Financial support:

(1) everyday living costs, expenses (150 USD*3months=450 USD)

(2) special medical care (Note! Need based 300 USD)*

(3) housing support. (Note! Need based 300 USD)*

(4) Re-integration support, income-generating support: training courses, internships, help getting back to school, (application, help with tuition fees) 3000 USD*
