OUR VALUES
Aim High Be Respectful Be Resilient Be Responsible
great programming and activities for the many students who attend each day. Last year, K.C.C.C. introduced Holiday Activity Programs and Sarah has continued to work in these programs, often taking the students on excursions to make their holidays exciting and interesting. While working at K.P.S., Sarah has also continued to do additional training in a number of areas to support her desire to…. All this has led to Sarah being successful in gaining a new position with Salvo Care
based in Leongatha.
On behalf of the students, staff and school community, we would like to thank Sarah for all that she has done in supporting the students in her care over many years at K.P.S. We would like to wish her the best of luck with her new job and know that the students who have attended After School Care under her watch have loved the activities and support
she has provided to each and every one of them. Thank you Sarah!

Have we only been back at school for 2 weeks? Our South Gippsland weather has certainly made our first 2 weeks interesting with sun, rain, wind, cloud, Wet Day Timetables and as usual, all when it causes the most inconvenience – at 3:30 pm! But we do live in South Gippsland and it only
makes life more interesting!
Staffing
Sarah Boasman
Our longest serving After-School Program staff member Ms Sarah Boasman is leaving us this week. Sarah has been with us at K.P.S. since way back when the After School Care Program was co-ordinated by the school. Sarah has along the way been the Team Leader as well as co-ordinated many different aspects of the program. More recently, since the After School Program has come under the banner of the Karmai Community Children’s Centre, Sarah has continued to work at our school, providing

Breakfast Club
In the coming weeks, K.P.S. is starting our own Breakfast Club. The purpose of the Club will be to support those students who come to school not having had breakfast. We will be offering a range of healthy options for breakfast which will take place at the Canteen on a Monday and Wednesday from 8:15 – 8:45. We are looking for some community members who may be able to assist with the running of the program or even just assist with the serving of breakfast. We have received some sizeable donations to enable us to get the program up and running. This has been primarily through the Department of Education and Training as well as our local Korumburra Rotary Club’s generous donation as part of their Robyn Holmes Foundation. Many of our school community would know of Robyn and her substantial contribution to many aspects of life both at Korumburra P.S. and in the wider Korumburra community. Please watch out for further details about the Breakfast Club commencing. If anyone would like to assist, please don’t hesitate to contact me at
school.
CF:4 Look After our Environment
During the holidays, we had many sections of our school grounds pruned. I would like to thank the students of Mr Craig Friebe’s Year 4 class who have spent a number of hours in relocating the
branches to our ‘pile’ down on the Perry block.
Spot Mr Gray’s Spelling Mistake
This week, we had only 1 person who spotted my ‘mistake’ in the word ‘tutelage’ which I mis-spelt as ‘tutilage’ in my last newsletter
report. Again, I couldn’t trick Sophie McKenzie.
But Charlotte Coughlan also spotted that we had left out the word ‘Technician’ in last week’s Library Technician’s report. Well spotted
Charlotte! Good luck spotting my very easy mistake in this report.
NK:2-3
It gives us great pleasure to announce that Mrs Robyn Hodgson will continue in NK:2-3 for the remainder of this term. Robyn has been in the class since Mr Nigel Kilpatrick left to take up his new role at Inverloch P.S. at the end of Term 2 and has quickly settled into her
new role.
Helen Cripps
We would like to wish our Library Technician Mrs Helen Cripps an enjoyable short break as she takes 4 days off useing some of her Long Service Leave. During Helen’s absence, Mrs Kathy McRae will take Helen’s place in the Library while Mrs Tracey Smith will take Kathy’s place in working with various students across a number of
classes.
Battle Of Fromelles Commemoration
On Tuesday, our 8 Year 6 leaders – School Captains Jahri and Blake, Vice Captains Tahlia and Raj and 4 J.S.C. members Tegan, Baylee, Tameah and Chris together with Mrs Jacqui Rotthier and I attended a commemoration service that was held at the Cenotaph at Coleman Park. This service marked exactly 100 years since the Battle of Fromelles took place in France as part of World War I. There were 11 soldiers from battalions associated with Korumburra who lost their lives in this battle. Each soldier’s name was engraved on a small cross that our students then placed a poppy on. Jahri and Blake then laid a wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf the K.P.S.
community.
Resilience Programs at K.P.S.
In the coming weeks, all our students will be involved in a number of activities that are aimed at developing each child’s resilience – their ability to deal with issues and to bounce back from things that have challenged them. Watch out for coming newsletters where more information will be provided about the Resilience programs taking
place in each Department.

Library Report
Book Club – Just a reminder that orders for Issue 5 of Book Club close next Monday 25th July.
Premiers’ Reading Challenge - 7 weeks to go!
Congratulations this week go to Jahri Hogan-van Rooij. Well done Jahri.
Wednesday Story Time – At lunchtime today Mrs Rotthier came to the Library to read some stories to the children. Today she introduced two of the short-listed books for the Children’s Book Council of
Australia Book Awards. Book Week is celebrated during the last week of August.
Today’s books were ‘My Dead Bunny’ by Sigi Cohen and ‘My Dog Bigsy’ by Alison Lester. Here are
some comments.
We went to the Library to hear a story by one of our school teachers, Mrs Rotthier. The story was called ‘My Dead Bunny’. I liked it because at the end they dug up the cat and then the dog. It’s
probably going to never stop. by David O.
I liked My Dead Bunny because it was funny, because there was a dead bunny …. alive.
by Reuben F.
Wednesday story time will be a regular activity in the Library, second half of lunchtime. All welcome.

District Chess Competition
Today, K.P.S. hosted the annual District Chess Tournament. We had 4 other primary schools join us for this event run by Chess Kids Victoria. We had 20 Year 4 – 6 students compete and many of them will now have the opportunity to move onto the next level of competition later in the year based on today’s results. Well done to
all those who represented K.P.S. at Chess today.
