Harry Potter

Background Information: For this film, there are many different locations I will be observing. For

the thirty minutes that I will be observing there are four major locations on which the scenes of

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone have been filmed. The first is in Harry’s home; Harry lives

with his maternal Aunt, Uncle, and their son on Privet Drive. The second is Diagon Alley; this is

where Hagrid and Harry go to visit the bank to extract something “secretive,” and some money to

go shopping for school supplies for Harry. The third is the train station; here Harry learns how to

get to his required destination: Platform 93

4. He gets there through a train station located in London.

The fourth is the school itself: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; here Harry goes to

school and meet his new friends along with some enemies…

Vocabulary: Words you may not know while reading the observations or definition with

examples….

Muggle(s) - Anyone that is incapable of performing magic; who has magic and non-magic

blood in them.

Cauldron – A container, of sorts, that is used to brew potions.

Avada Kedavra – the Killing curse/spell.

Death Eaters – They are those who follow Voldemort and are summoned by their dark

mark which is a tattoo comprised of the body of a snake but the head of a skull.

Auror – A person that captures wizarding criminals who commit crimes by using dark

magic.

Polyjuice Potion – A potion that, when consumed, allows a person to shape shift into

another person or creature for a limited amount of time. The juice is made with a blend of

juices, herbs, and something that the person that one would like to resemble has on their

body… like a piece of hair.

Parseltongue – A language that is spoken between a human and a snake. Only Harry and

Voldemort are known to be able to speak this.

Confundus Charm –

Patronus – a protection method against a person’s worst fear.

Penseive- Used to view memories.

Figured World: A figured world is a substantial social network that had certain norm, rules, and

regulations that should reflect the adequate behavior of every person in the community.

There are two sets of norms that Harry has to follow; they are rules that Harry has to follow

at home and those at school (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry). At home Harry

is not allowed to sleep in an adequate dormitory, he has to sleep in a small space under the

stairs; as for Hogwarts, Harry has a certain “dorm,” as we say in college, that he has to

sleep in. At home, Harry is to serve his aunt, uncle, and cousin prior to eating himself, if

he gets to eat. At Hogwarts, Harry is to serve himself from an assortment of foods. At

home, Harry is to clean his own space as well as things that he is told to clean without

hindrance. At school, Harry is to clean up after himself (cleaning his room and study space,

everything else is done for him).

Some of the rules that everyone has to follow at Hogwarts goes as follows: Everyone is to

be prepared for class. No one is to enter the Dark Forest at any time due to the fact that

there are dark creatures that live there and the school has no power over. Every student is

to go to their dormitories at the time that is specified. No student is to roam around the

campus at any time (Especially not the third floor corridor on the right-hand side!).

Commented [RP2]: These explanations are wonderful! They offer really good "tidbits" about the places. Consider bolding or italicizing these places and their names, to make them stand out from the paragraph. It could draw more attention to this great information. (Amalia Striker)

Commented [RP3]: I believe this was an excellent way of going above and beyond, by including these terms used throughout the Harry Potter series. Obviously, there may be an audience who have never heard most of these terms. And by explaining what these terms are, you are in turn making it easier for the them to understand the significance of these terms in the plot. (Veronica Garcia)

Students are not to leave the school grounds unless give permission to. And last, but not

least, no student is to use magic inappropriately.

Actors: An actor/actress is anyone who holds either a main role, or role that has substantial

influence towards the plot of the story. An actor/actress could be either a protagonist or antagonist.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

۩ Harry Potter - Harry is an adopted maternal nephew of his Aunt Petunia Dursley

and Uncle Vernon Dursley, and his cousin Dudley Dursley. He is treated in an ill-

manner in his “home.” His room is a small space under the stairs. Harry is an

amateur practitioner of magic. He knows very little about magic and how to use it,

but he is very keen on mastering it. He is very loyal and committed to his friends

and vice versa. He, oblivious to the fact, holds a very important role in the magic

world due to his parents’ position. He is very determined to prove his worth and

ends up running into some sort of trouble.

۩ Petunia, Vernon, and Dudley Dursley – This is Harry’s mother’s, Lily, sister and

brother-in-law and their son. Petunia had disliked Lily ever since it was apparent

that she had magic powers and Petunia considered her “a freak.” Because they

didn’t like Lily and the fact that they didn’t want anything to do with her, the

Dursley family are malevolent towards Harry.

۩ Rubeus Hagrid – He guards Harry. He is the official keeper of keys and ground at

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He helped deliver to Harry the mail

that stated that he was given an acceptance to the school. He also helps Harry

through his hard times through school.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

۩ Harry Potter – In this film, Harry is a very misunderstood person, whether it be by

friends or officials. Harry was forcefully placed as a contestant in the games by

Barty Crouch Jr., who we find out later was disguised as Moody ad was drinking

polyjuice potion. Harry learns the strength of teamwork and friendships as this

film progresses.

۩ Hermoine Granger – She is one of Harry’s two best friends. She is known for her

vast knowledge in everything magic. She is very loyal and helpful to Harry and

Ron whenever they need assistance or help.

۩ Ronald “Ron” Weasley – Ron is Harry’s first best friend; they met on a train their

first year and have been close ever since. In this movie we learn that Ron jumps

quickly to presumptions and that lands him in a bad place with Harry. We learn

that Ron thought that Harry put his name in the goblet of fire without telling him

first, but in actuality, someone else put his name in.

۩ Albus Dumbledore – He is the head master of the Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft

and Wizardry. He currently possesses the “elder wand” which is the most

powerful wand in all of History. He is very protective of Harry but doesn’t always

believe him. He, sometimes, councils Harry when he is gloomy or unsteady.

۩ Alastor “Mad-eye” Moody - He is a former auror who helped lock away most of

the criminals that reside in the Prison of Azkaban. He, hence his name, has one

Commented [RP7]: Using the green color is a great idea! I hadn't thought of using colors to differentiate definitions or words from the rest of the text. Though on a white background, it can be a little a hard on the eyes to read. My suggestion is to compare this lighter green to a darker green or a darker color. (Amalia Striker)

Commented [RP8]: I think you should edit your paper differently. Maybe making the heading bold or something. This will help to make your paper better to understand. If you have questions just ask me in class and it will explain myself a bit better. (Valentina Sosa-gutierrez)

Commented [RP9]: You should put these characters into different categories because it can be confusing to read each. This can help to make it easier to understand who they are and what role they play. (Valentina Sosa-gutierrez)

Commented [RP10]: I understand that Hagrid played a significant role in Harry's time at Hogwarts. But I would suggest that you explain maybe what he was guarding Harry from so that anyone who doesn't know the plot can understand his important role. Also provide examples of these hard times that Harry faced in school as a way to go above and beyond (Veronica Garcia)

crazy eye. It is almost like a fake eye that still functions, but looks odd popping

out of his head. He was requested upon by Dumbledore to fill in as the Defense

Against the Dark Arts professor for the new year. He freaked almost every one

out the first day in class by using forbidden magic, forbidden as spells that the

students are not allowed to use.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2

۩ Harry Potter – Just as he was destined, Harry would fight against Voldemort.

Now that he, along with the help of Hermoine and Ron, has destroyed all, but one,

Horcrauxs’, the time has come to have their untimate fight. Who will win:

Voldemort or Harry Potter?

۩ Hermoine Granger – Harmoine has used her extensive knowledge to help find and

destroy all of the Hordruxs’. She, along with Ron and all of the allies of

Hogwart’s, is put to the test. They have to defend Hogwart’s and make sure that

they win.

۩ Ronald “Ron” Weasley – Ron and Hermoine finally have their kiss. They are

officially together. After another fight with Harry, Ron has come to his senses and

come back with Harry and Hermoine to find and destroy all of the remaining

Horcruxs’. He loses family, he lost his brother.

۩ Severus Snape- Held the knowledge that Harry was to and should know. He loved

Harry’s mother ever since he laid eyes on her.

۩ Voldemort- He dies in this film. He and Harry have their final fight together.

۩ Neville Longbottom – Neville is one of the only reasons why Hermoine and Ron

were still alive. He killed Nagini with the Gryfindor sword

Artifacts: An artifact is an object, in any form, that holds major significance towards the plot of

the story or to a community.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

۩ Deluminator – This is the first magical object that we see in the movie.

Dumbledore uses this to take away the light from the street lamps.

۩ Gringotts Bank Money – Harry gets this when he and Hagrid go to the bank to

extract some money for his school stuff.

۩ Harry’s Scar – Harry’s scar symbolizes the struggle that his parents went through

to make sure that he doesn’t die. That is the mark that Voldemort left on his

forehead when he tried to kill Harry when he was a baby.

۩ Sorcerer’s Stone – the basis of the movie. This stone holds the power to make

anyone immortal.

۩ The Cloak of Invisibility –One of the three elements to the Deathly Hallows. It

allows a person to become hidden. When you wear the cloak, you become

invisible.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

۩ The “manky old boot” aka Portkey - this is a form of transportation that allows a

person to move from one place to another over a long distance.

۩ The Dark Mark – this is the mark that both symbolizes and summons the

followers of Voldemort and Voldemort himself.

Commented [RP11]: I am quite confused by this "knowledge" that Severus Snape apparently possesses. Was this the fact that he was in love with Harry's mother? Or is it something else he knows? I suggest you clarify this in the description. (Veronica Garcia)

۩ Lucius Malfoy’s Cane – This is a cane that has the head of a snake. He used it to

latch onto Harry’s foot to warn him off/tell him to enjoy himself both at once.

۩ Triwizard Trophy – the winner of the triwizard tournament will receive this

trophy.

۩ Mad-Eye Moody’s Flask – Mad Eye had this on him at all times to drink

polyjuice potion from it. It was Barty Crouch Jr. who impersonated himself as

Mad Eye Moody.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2

۩ The Lost Diadem of Ravenclaw – This is a crown like object that belonged to

Ravenclaw herself. The only person who knew where it was was Ravenclaw’s

daughter who was a ghost who resided in the halls close to the Ravenclaw

common room. She located it to be in the Room of Requirements.

۩ Penseive – an apparatus that allows a person to view memories or events that took

place in a person’s life by putting mere tears or an actual memory strand in the

apparatus.

۩ The Prophecy – Harry’s prophecy is to kill, or be killed by, Voldemort.

۩ The Resurrection Stone – one of the three elements to the Deathly Hallows. It

allows a person to bring back someone from the dead.

۩ The Sword of Gryffindor – It belonged to Gryffindor, himself when he was alive.

The sword was given to Harry by Dumbledore as a present but it only appears

when it is needed and only to those who are worthy.

Literacy Practices: Literacy practices are various forms of communication, whether it be verbal

or escribed.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

۩ Harry’s acceptance in the Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

۩ Owl- used to send and receive mail.

۩ Quills- used to write letters and notes.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

۩ Dreams- Harry dreamt of Voldemort coming back to life.

۩ Letter- Harry communicated with Sirius Black by writing him a letter.

۩ Newspapers- The biography that Harry read of himself while waiting for Black to

show. It was Rita Skeeter who wrote that article.

۩ Fire – Sirius spoke to Harry through both a letter and the fire in a furnace.

۩ The Goblet of Fire- Chooses which person gets to compete in the competition.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2

۩ Penseive – Harry uses this to see Snape’s tears held in them. Harry learns about

how and why Snape felt the things he did toward his dad, his mom, and him.

Harry got to see a side of Snape that no-one else but Dumbledore go to see.

***The time(s) that I have recorded for this film are equivalent to the timing in the movie; i.e 0:00-

6:00 means that I have seen the first six minutes of the film. ***

Observation #1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (30 Minutes)

Time: 0:00-6:00

Commented [RP12]: I don't quite understand why this would be considered a literacy practice? I suggest that you maybe provide an explanation on HOW Harry's dreams of Voldemort would be a literacy practice. Is this Voldemort's way of trying to communicate to Harry that he is back? Clarify this in your explanation. (Veronica Garcia)

Commented [RP13]: I love the example and the time range here! it makes it really specific and is very easy to see and notice. The stars also do a wonderful job of making me look at the important detail here. I've notice overall you really have done a wonderful job creating layers to this assignment. There are key points that really stand out. (Amalia Striker)

It’s is night time in Surrey, England and the movie begins with an owl flying off of a road sign

that read: Privet Drive. We now see Professor Albus Dumblodore with an apparatus that enables

him to capture light into a container, of sorts. After collecting the light from various street lamps,

we hear the sound of a cat meowing. This cat happens to be Professor Minerva McGonagall. She

then shape-shifts into a human being. Both Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall are

fairly old. Dumbledore and McGonagall are now speaking about a baby boy and a person, who

Dumbledore trusts greatly in, flying down to the ground, from the sky, in a flying motorcycle that

has an extra seating attachment on it. In that seat, Hagrid had a sleeping baby in it. McGonagall

tries to convince Dumbledore to not give Harry to his only family: his maternal aunt and uncle. As

Dumbledore lays Harry on the front porch of the Drusley family home, Dumbledore also places a

letter next to Harry. Dumbledore says “Good luck Harry,” and the camera zooms into the scar on

Harry’s forehead. His Aunt Petunia Dursley and Uncle Vernon Dursley along with their son

Dudley Dursley, are seen to be very rude and unaffectionate to Harry. Aunt Petunia rudely wakes

Harry up after which Dudely jumps up and down on the stairs, under which Harry resides. Harry

is given a very tiny cupboard under the stairs to live in; it happens to be very compacted and messy.

It’s Dudley’s birthday. Harry, as usual mornings, is told to serve the breakfast. Dudley is a very

spoiled child; He counted the presents that his parents got him and complained about how he got

less presents this year than last year. The family is taking a trip to the zoo. Before getting into the

car, uncle Vernon warns Harry of no “funny-business, or no food for a week.”

Time: 6:01-12:00

While in the Reptile House, the Dursley family try to get an anaconda to move in its cage. Harry

then starts to speak with the anaconda. Dudley then starts tapping onto the glass. Harry makes the

glass wall that encages the anaconda disappear causing the anaconda to escape and Dudley to get

stuck. After coming home, aunt Petunia takes Dudley to change out of his spoiled clothing. Uncle

Vernon takes Harry by his hair and, basically, throws him into his little cupboard saying that

“There’s no such thing as magic,” after asking him how the glass wall disappeared. The next scene

starts with an owl slipping a letter through the front door. Then we see aunt Petunia taking a picture

of Dudely dressed in his new school uniform that he will be wearing to a private school. While

Harry just looks at it like it’s a joker’s outfit. Harry gets his first ever letter, it is from The Hogwarts

School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry’s uncle and aunt immediately ripe the letter even before

opening it. Uncle Vernon even drilled a wooden panel onto the door message slot. Vernon just

went on to burn each letter.

Time: 12:01-18:00

The following Sunday the Dursley house erupted with letters upon letters from Hogwarts School

of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After being blasted with a plethora of letters, the family just up and

moved to a remote tower-house on an island, in the middle of nowhere. At 12:00 midnight, Harry

makes a wish. And at the exact moment that Harry make his wish, lo and behold Hagrid comes

busting through the front door, literally. When he enters the home, Vernon comes down with his

shot guns, trying to threaten Hagrid to leave, but Hagrid ends up bending Vernon’s gun and tells

him to “dry up” as he seems like a “great prune.” He then gives Harry a birthday cake that he baked

“words and all” just for Harry. Hagrid goes on to tell Harry that he is a wizard, to which Harry

replies that he’s “just Harry…Just Harry.” Hagrid gives him his letter that he has been getting for

the past week. Petunia starts talking about how her parents were so happy for and proud of her

sister (Harry’s mother), and how she thought her sister was a freak. She then started saying rude

things about her sister- Lily- and her sister’s husband- James Potter. Hagrid spots Dudley eating

Harry’s birthday cake and uses magic to give him a tail.

Time: 18:01-24:00

Hagrid and Harry then go on to buy the required materials and equipment for the class. They are

to bring with them a “2 Pewter Cauldron, and bring if they desire, either an owl, a cat, or a toad,”

robes for uniform, and some dragon skinned gloves. The two of them go into a pub designated for

non-muggle, magic folks. Harry is introduced to Professor Quirrell, the Defense Against the Dark

Arts teacher. Quirrell stutters a lot. Harry and Hagrid go out back and Hagrid taps on a few bricks

on the wall and the bricks start to shift so they make a walk way to Diagon Alley; which is basically

an outlet mall, of sorts, that contains all you’d need to go to both school and bank.

Time: 24:01-30:00

Hagrid and Harry go into the Gringot’s Bank to extract some money from Harry’s parent’s bank

so they can go shopping for school supplies. The bank is managed by goblins so when Harry enters

the bank, he’s totally stunned. Hagrid informs one of the Goblins that Harry would like to make a

“withdrawal” from his bank account. Hagrid also gives that same Goblin a letter sent by

Dumbledore to withdraw something from “vault you-know-which;” which contains something that

deals with “you-know-who,” who we find out in a bit is Voldemort (with a silent T). Harry, Hagrid,

and a different Goblin take a trip to the vaults and get their money and top secretive package,

respectively. The vaults that are shown seem very old and look like they are cemetery headstones.

Harry goes into Ollivander’s wand shop to get his final, and most important necessities: a wand.

He trues two different wands before he gets the right one. In order to see if the wand works for

you, you’d have to give it a swish and see if it works. It took Harry three tries to find that wand

that worked for him. The only one that worked for Harry was the one whose brother gave him his

scar. The wand that is compatible with Harry was made of a Phoenix’s tail feather. That same

Phoenix, laid just one other feather that was also made into a wand that is compatible with the

owner who gave Harry his scar. Olivander goes on to say that the one who gave Harry his scar has

a name that is not to be spoken.

Observation #2: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (45 Mintes)

Time : 0:00-6:00

The movie begins with a large snake, most likely an anaconda, slithering on a barren cemetery that

has an angle statue depicting a skeleton inside the clothing of a grim reaper and its scythe. It is, as

usual, very dark out and the name of the movie starts to zoom into the camera, or vice versa. We

get a wide shot of a living quarter and in the background is the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and

Wizardry. We start the movie with an elderly man setting his stove on fire to heat up his water

kettle; as he is doing so, he see a light turn on in the living quarter next door and goes over to see

what’s going on. The mood is set to be very eerie as he starts to climb the stairs that will eventually

lead him into the house. The house that he, now, has entered is very retro and dusty (it could use a

maid’s help). There are spider webs everywhere and the stairs that he climbs up are very creaky.

Commented [RP14]: There seems to be a repeat and contradiction here. Did Harry test two wands or three? Did he try the last wand three times? Maybe you could revise this and delete one of the sentences, or reword to better explain your meaning of this section. (Amalia Striker)

As the old man, which we find out is the care taker of muggles, inconspicuously snoops into the

conversation that is being taken place, the large snake slithers past the old man’s leg and into the

room. In the room, there are three people; two, Wormtail and Barty Crouch Jr., kneeling in front

of the seemingly scrawny figure, Lord Voldemort, sitting on the lounge chair. The snake, Nagini,

slithers up to Voldemort and whispers, in a language called parseltongue, to him about how the

old man outside is listening in on them. Voldemort then uses the killing curse, Avada Kedavra, to

kill the old man.

Harry wakes up the sound of Hermoine’s voice commanding Harry to wake up; she is holding a

candle next to his face. Harry was dreaming about that encounter that I described just above.

Haermoine also wakes Ron up.

Time: 6:01-12:00

After breakfast Harry, Ron, Ron’s family, and two people that are friends of Ron’s dad meet up at

the top of a hill. They all gather around a “manky old boot” that is a “port key,” a portal, that, when

it is held onto, can take them to a different place. Basically, it just takes them from the normal

London city, to the location of that which is desired. They landed where the Quidditch World Cup

was being held. As soon as they all got there, Harr, Ron, and Ron’s family all went into a small

tent that resembled a well-furnished and fabricated home. In the arena, they encountered Draco

Malfoy and his father who attempted to belittle them by insulting their economic status by saying

that if it rains, they- Harry, Ron, and Ron’s Family- will know first since they have seats all the

way at the top of the arena. After which, Draco went on to boast about how the Minister of Magic

invited Draco and his father to join him in the VIP seats. The crowd was very erratic and ecstatic

about the game, they cheered loudly. The two teams came out into the arena. The world’s best

seeker was introduces: Viktor Krum. After the game finished, they all went back into their tent.

Ron was talking about how Viktor was not just an athlete, but also and artist with the way he plays.

Ron’s dad heard some commotion outside so he went to investigate. Everyone started singing a

song about how Ron loves Viktor. They sang “Viktor, I love you; Viktor, I do…When we’re apart

my heart beats only for you…” Ron’s dad comes back into the tent to tell them that they have to

leave that instant. People were running and screaming outside and fires were starting all over the

place. People were screaming about how the Death Eaters were there. Everyone was to return to

the portkey. In an attempt to run back to the portkey, Harry tripped and fell and got, accidentally,

kicked in the face by passer-by’s. Next we see Barty Crouch Jr. summoning Voldemort by using

his dark mark. Barty summoned a hologram of Voldemort by saying “Morsmordre.” The hologram

appeared as a green skull with a snake expelling from its mouth.

Time: 12:01-18:00

Harry wakes up just in time to see that happen. Barty sees Harry. Ron and Hermonie come back

to find Harry. As soon as Harry saw the mark, his scar started to hurt. The Minister of Magic came

and brought Harry and them back. Ron, Harry, and Ron are on their way back to Hogwart’s now

on the train. Hermoine noticed that Harry was showing signs of discomfort when the pain of his

scar started to resurface again. She said that “Sirius will want to hear about this.” But inevitably,

Harry sent a letter to Sirius about his condition; Harry’s owl delivered it to Sirius, of course. We

now see a cluster of Pegasus’ flying in a carriage to Hogwarts. We also see a ship rise from the

waters to the surface, the emblem on the sail resembles that of The Durmstrand School.

Dumbledore commences the dinner by welcoming back all of Hogwart’s faculty, staff, and

students. He also addresses the fact that “Hogwart’s has been chose to host a legendary event: The

Triwizard Tournament” which brings three schools together to participate into the contests that

will follow. Each school is allowed to choose only one student to participate in the games.

Dumbledore first introduces the “lovely ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and their

headmistress, Madame Maxime.”

Time: 18:00-1-24:00

Dumbledore then introduces “the proud sons of Durmstrand and their high master, Igor Karkaroff.”

The guys come into the room with their sticks and perform and introduction that is followed by a

dragon made of fire; it goes away instantaneously. It is raining out and we see a person waling in

the muddy water puddles outside of the Hogwart’s campus. He has a cane. Dumbledore starts

speaking of the tasks that the student who would win must face while the contest proceeds.

Dumbledore stated that due to the recent incidents that have taken place, like the Quidditch World

Championship, the ministry of magic has set a new rule that says that no student under the age os

17 can participate in the games, to which everyone started booing. Before announcing that bit of

news, an Auror names Alastor “Mad-eye” Moody enters the dining hall, after which the ceiling of

the hall starts to resemble and sound like a storm. Dumbledore greets him. Bartimus Crouch Sr.

announces the age restriction of entering the tournament. The students are informed that in order

to enter the tournament, the student must be chosen. They can be chosen by placing their name on

a slit of paper and placing it in the goblet of fire. We see Karkaroff go into the room which has the

goblet of fire in it.

Time: 24:01-30:00

Next we see a class in session. Moody introduces himself to the class as the Defense Against the

Darks arts professor. He speaks of the Unforgivable curses, there are three. The first one is the

Imperius curse which is a curse that makes a being vulnerable and susceptible to suggestion,

making the victim do anything that the victimizer desires. The second curse is Cruciatus curse,

which is known as the torture curse. The third curse is called the Killing curse, which is a curse

that kills hence the name. Moody demonstrates the three curses on an insect. Moody states that

there has been only one person in history who has survived the Killing curse, and that he was

sitting the room in which they were: Harry Potter. Moody then drinks his signature drink, which

we find out later is a polyjuice potion. As Harry, Hermoine, and Ron walk down the stairs to the

ground floor, they discussed how terrifying it was to be in the same room as Moody because of

the things the he was doing and talking about. On their way down, they saw Neville moping about

by a window that has a sorrowful man made of glass designed onto it. Moody comes down to get

Neville about what happened and to try and appease him a bit, if at all. Cedric Digory, one of

Ron’s father’s friend’s son, which Harry, Ron and Hermoine met at the portkey earlier, is now

placing his name in the goblet of fire. The fire in the goblet is blue. Ron and Harry discuss about

being able to participate in the contest until the next three years. I an attempt, which fails, to put

their names into the goblet of fire, Fred and George drink a potion to help them cross the age-line

that Dumbledore drew.

Time: 30:01- 36:00

They, Fred and George, of course, failed and got thrown out the age-line ring and transformed into

an older image of themselves. They start to fight, looks like a playful fight. We now see Viktor

Krum walk into the room to place his name in the goblet of fire; he has come with his headmaster

Igor Karkaroff. Hermoine and Karkaroff have a moment. Dumbledore begins the choosing

ceremony by diming all of the lights in the room. The goblet of fire chooses the chmpion in each

school, not Dumbledore by the way. The first champion comes from the Durmstrand: Viktor Krum.

The second comes from The Beauxbatons academy: Fluer Delacour. The third comes from

Hogwarts, specifically Hufflepuff: Cedric Digory. Dumbledore then announces that the three

contestants have been chosen and then shows the trophy that they could potentially win. Those

three should be the only contestants, but no… there is one more name that comes from the goblet,

shocker! This fourth contestant happens to be Harry Potter. We can now assume that it was Igor

who put Harry’s name into the goblet since earlier he went into the room by himself. Harry, along

with everyone else, is surprised at this fact. Ron is more angry then surprised. Someone yells that

“he’s a cheat,” and “he’s not even 17 yet.” Harry walks into the room in which everyone is meeting

up and Dumbledore rushes in to determine what happened and whether or not Harry plced his

name in the goblet of fire or if he asked someone to put his name in it. But Moody says that that

kind of “magic is way beyond the talents of a fourth year.” Barty says that Harry has to participate

in the competition since the goblet creates a binding contract between the contestant and the goblet.

Time: 36:01-42:00

Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, and Moody begin to discuss what they should do about this

incident. Everyone but McGonagall agree that Harry has to participate in the games and that there

was no way that Harry could be taken out. Ron is angry with Harry because he believe that Harry

put his name in the goblet of fire without telling him. Harry says that he didn’t put his name in the

goblet but Ron still doesn’t believe him. Next day starts with an interview that Rita Skeeter, the

daily prophet editor. They both go into a broom-cupboard. She asks him questions about his skills

and his past. She asks about what his parents would feel is they were alive now about what either

Harry has done or what he’s going through.

Time: 42:01-45:00

Sirius Black, Harry’s uncle, sends a response to Harry’s mail that he sent to him earlier with his

owl. Sirius instructs Harry to speak with his face to face on Saturday at 1:00 am in the Gryffindor

Common Room and to make sure he’s alone. Harry follows Sirius’ instructions. He starts reading

a newspaper that has his biography on it; from the interview that Skeeter too earlier. Sirius’ face

appeared in the furnace where the fire is lit. The two speak of what happened with the goblet and

what Harry dreamt of. Sirius says that Hogwart’s is no longer safe. He suspects that Igor or Barty

could be the one who put Harry’s name in the goblet.

Observation #3: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 (60 Minutes)

Time: 1:00:00-1:10:00

We begin with a fight between Crab, Goyle, and Draco and Harry, Hermoine, and Ron. They are

in the Room of Requirements Harry and Hermoine start climbing up a hill of chairs to find the

second to last Horcrux: the Lost Diadem of Ravenclaw. Crab began to set fires around the room

and the spread fast. Afraid, Draco also started climbing the chairs. Harry set up a wall made of

water to momentarily hinder the fire from touching them until they all are accessible to a broom.

Harry, being the nice peron he was, decided that they couldn’t leave the others behind. At the

moment before the doors to that room closed, Harry destroyed the Horcrux by stabbing the Diadem

around them from trees. Lily was placed in Gryffindor and Snape in Slytherin. Lily found James

there, Harry’s father. James was a bully to Snape. Yet, Snape never lost his feelings for Lily. Snape

askes Dumbledore to hide Lily, James, and Harry, but Dumbledore was too late. Lily tells baby

Harry how she loves him and to be strong and brave. She is killed by Voldemort. Snape is upset

about the boy living and Lily dying. Snape went back to Lily’s home to see them; he saw Lily’s

body. Dumbledore informs Snape to make sure that he kills Dumbledore not Draco. We find out

that a part of Voldemort lives in him.

Time: 1:20:01-1:30:00

Dumbledore tells Snape that Harry can only know this information when Voldemort is at his most

vulnerable. Snape speaks of how Dumbledore kept Harry alive just so he can die by the wand of

Voldemort. Snape releases a Patronus that was the same as the one that Lily had. Snape never

stopped loving Lily. Apparently, Voldemort himself must kill Harry. Harry tells Hermoine and

Ron that he knows the reason behind his ability to hear the Horcrux’s. Harry tells them to kill

Nagini since she’s the last Horcrux. Harry then goes into the Forbidden Forest. He opens the golden

snitch that Dumbledore left for him and finds the Resurrection Stone. Harry imagines his Mom,

Dad, Remus Lupin, and his uncle, Sirius Black. He speaks to them about how dying and if it hurts.

Harry asks them to stay close to him. Voldemort awaits for Harry. Harry finally comes.

Time: 1:30:01-1:40:00

Voldemort uses the killing curse to kill Harry. Harry wake up in a white train station. He finds a

small person, or something like that, that which resembles Voldemort. Harry now has to decide

whether he will get on the train to where-ever or go back and kill Voldemort. Harry tells

Dumbledore that he knows not how to kill Voldemort since he has both the elder wand and Nagini.

Voldemort wakes up… Draco’s mother goes over to Harry to see if he’s alive, but he was not. She

deems him dead. They come back with Harry in the arms of Hagrid (I shed a few tears at this

moment.). Voldemort says that Harry is dead and Ginny Weasley runs after hm. He also says that

everyone shall put their fate in him. He asks everyone to come to his side or die. Draco goes back

over to Voldemort’s side. Neville goes up to say something.

family ran off. Harry and Voldemort started to fight. While the two of them fought, Hermoine

went after Nagini. Neville wake up find the Gryffindor sword. Voldemort holds Harry up spread-

eagle like. Ron’s mother kills Bellatrix. The two fight again. Harry and Voldemort jumped off of

the ledge and separated themselves from each other. Voldemort and Harry had their final battle.

Nevilles killed the last Harcrux: Nagini. Harry kills Voldemort. Voldemort rises to dust and flies

way like ash.

Time: 1:50:01-2:00:00

Harry walks back into the main hall where everyone is resting and recovering. Harry and Hagrid

share a hug. Harry discovers that the elder wand answered to Harry and Harry only ever since he

disarmed Draco. Harry broke the wand in half and threw it away. The three, Harry, Hermoine, and

Ron stood hand-in-hand in the middle of the bridge that connects the school and the outside road.

Flash forward to 19 years later. Harry married Ginney Weasley, Ron’s younger sister, and had kids

together. Ron and Hermoine got married and had kids together. Draco and some gorl got married

and had a kid together. They all are taking their kids to the train that will take them to Hogwart’s.
