E-Renting

E-Renting is a leading online business without a high street branch. The companyfocuses on streamlining the renting out process for landlords by applyingtechnology to the traditional model to create a cost-eective and exible oering. There comes a point in any growing business when it needs to be more than just

its founder. t needs the right people to underta!e tas!s" such as answering thephone" managing the accounts" handling customer en#uiries and producingcontent.

$ounder says %E-renting recently reached this stage" and decided that - ratherthan just employing new and full-time talent - would loo! towards creating avirtual team of specialists&. 's a result" this would help him to focus more ongrowing the business. Employing a virtual team inevitably has its pros and cons. The fact that people don(t all sit in and share the same o)ce can mean that theydon(t feel empowered" or they become disengaged with the company(s philosophy.

$ounder says %*ou need to ensure that you ta!e people on with similar attributes- people with entrepreneurial air" who are proactive and have a desire to grow thebusiness&. t(s a #uestion of going out and trying to +nd the right people" withoutfalling into the trap of ta!ing on a whole load of consultants. Transparency andincentivi,ing and rewarding sta helped to produce a culture of loyalty within thecompany. This in turn allowed sta to feel empowered enough to ta!e on newresponsibilities improve internal processes and ultimately led to the developmentof their own careers professionally - all of which are foundations for the success of a business.

'chieving the right company culture can be a very di)cult thing to get right" socompany had to give it some serious thought. E-renting has found that culture canma!e or brea! a company and it changes and evolves over time. The right cultureaects the retention of !ey sta" which is important for the successful growth of abusiness. ompetitors may be in the position to oer higher salaries and issues of headhunting may be a problem unless the company(s culture is aligned with yoursta(s own values and your company(s business objectives. o the founder says%we had to create a feeling of loyalty where people are encouraged andincentivi,ed to thrive and develop within their roles&.
