NAME 3 WAYS S INGER S AT TRACT AU DIEN CES

“Mass popularity, original and timely music, and rebellious character”.

“Looks, fashion sense, and good interviews/public image”.

“Good vocals, audience involvement, and audience appreciation”.

What we see from this is that artists need a lot more than just musical ability to be appealing to audiences. This often means they need to be appealing physically, and friendly/relatable in public interviews.

WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, MAKES A GOOD MUSIC VIDEO?

“A simple narrative, to drive the music video forward”.

“Having a unique and artistic approach”.

“Needs to have meaning, not just randomness”.

The narrative looks to be the most important thing in a music video. These examples outline the importance of the theme of the video being original, and not generic. This makes me think that a largely performance-based video might not be the best idea moving forward. Some narrative is important.

WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, MAKES A BAD MUSIC VIDEO

“Cringe-worthy love stories”

“Generic party atmospheres, just alcohol and dancing”.

“Random inclusions with no meaning”.

This question has taught us not to go overboard with the narrative in our video, and to make sure that every scene we include in our video has a meaning/purpose within the story we are trying to tell.

“Concept albums are a good use of this, such as songs performed by Muse and The Sex Pistols”.

“Can be a unique selling point for some artists, such as Adele with 21 and 23”.

“Gives the public some idea of what to expect from the album, collaboration can be used as early promotion”.

What we learned from this question, is that synergy between the album and individual songs can be important for artists to establish themselves, as it can be a unique selling point.

HO W DO M AL E SO LO ARTISTS AT TRACT AUD IENCES

“Ingenuity along with personality is important”.

“Fashion sense, combined with a ‘lad’ like personality”.

“Meaningful songwriting”.

This question had mixed answers, but ultimately taught us that being unique is important. We had a variety of different answers for this question, which just goes to show everyone has different requirements when judging male soloists. This means we should incorporate a number of the different things into our video, so we can appeal to a number of different audiences.

“Distinct visual aesthetic”.

“Stylish clothes, unique setting, and a story within the video”.

“Good singing, meaningful video, creativeness”.

The answers to this question seem to look at artist image, and a meaningful story within our video, as the main attractions for audiences. These are both things we want to include in our video, so that should help us with audience attraction.

IS THERE ANYTHING WE SHOULDN’T INCLUDE IN OUR

VIDEO?

“Anything related with an average teenager, like school or phones”.

“Long pauses within the narrative”.

“Pointless shots that add nothing to the story”.

Our final question just summed up what we already knew. We need to be concise in our scenes, making sure we don’t waste screen time with needless shots. We also need to make sure the video as a whole isn’t just a generic teenage video, we can use a lot more mature themes to ensure this doesn’t happen.
