Assignment 12: Preliminary Research Task.

Page 2: Assignment 12

A preliminary task is a task you do before creating your opening sequence. This is an opportunity to practise different camera shots and plan out how your preliminary task will go.

What a Preliminary Task Is.

I think this was a good preliminary, because they used transitions, had a good range of angles and shots, and it was edited together very well. They also used a really cool effect on the credits.

The only criticism I have about this preliminary task, is that not all of the camera movement was smooth.

An example of a good preliminary task…

A cool credit effect.

I would give this preliminary a 3, because it

had nearly all of the crucial elements that are

essential for making a good preliminary task.

They aren’t a level 4, because camera

movements were at times shaky, and they

could’ve used more transitions instead of just

one to make the overall preliminary better.

My rating.

It started off well, with a range of shots, and they used zoom out and had very steady camera control

The range of camera shots ended there, and for the majority of the rest of the preliminary task, the shot remained the same. There wasn’t much camera movement, and errors in continuity.

I would rate this preliminary task a level 2, as they didn’t have a good enough range of shots.

To improve, they could’ve had the character dancing, and they could’ve shown this from different angles, instead of keeping one constant head on view of this. Also, they could’ve shown the judges expressions from the characters point of view, as this would help them have a wider range of shots.

The content was good, but because of two continuity errors, this lowered the quality of what they were showing.

My rating.

From watching these preliminary’s I know

what to do and what not to do. I now know how

important a range of shots is, as they help to

keep pace and without them, the preliminary

can be quite boring to watch.

Also, I know that I should include a variety of

angles to make it more interesting to watch

overall.

What I have learned.
