The IREC ISPQ Award Committee is responsible for final evaluation of candidates and determination of the award.

The Committee is composed of subject matter experts in renewable energy and energy efficiency, training and curriculum development, and people with expertise in the processes of accreditation and setting standards.

This committee provides the final review to confirm the assessor has used due diligence in performing the assessment and provides balance and impartiality to the award decision.5Award Committee Meetings

Once the IREC ISPQ office receives and reviews your documentation, they will add your candidates application to the agenda of the next award committee meeting. These meetings are usually held each month, via teleconference. Award committee members receive and are expected to review your documentation prior to the meeting. 6Award Committee Meetings

You will be expected to attend Award Committee Meetings only when you have a candidate on the agenda. In preparation for the meeting, you will be consulted about your availability for the meeting date and receive the agenda and instructions for connecting to the call.7

Assessor Presentation

M8L1S6

When your candidates award comes up on the agenda, you will be called upon for a short presentation and to answer any questions. Please make sure you have all your notes on hand. Presentations are typically 5-10 minutes but discussion can last much longer.

Listening to other assessors presentations and the committees questions and discussion can be helpful to learn what is expected. For your first assessment, you can request that you not be placed first on the agenda.

Lesson:AwardCommittee

M8L1S7

In your presentation, briefly describe the candidates background, the award that is being sought, how the candidate followed the application requirements, some information about the process of iteration that occurred, any nonconformities or concerns, and any commendations or recommendations you would suggest for the candidate. Conclude your presentation with the specific recommendation you are making and the reasons for it.

Be prepared to respond to questions from the Award Committee as they deliberate their decision.9Award Committee Rulings

Assessor Training

Lesson:AwardCommittee

M8L1S8

The Award Committee will usually make one of the following three rulings: Award of the credential, Termination, which is closure of the candidacy, when too many nonconformities exist to resolve in a reasonable period of time, or Additional Assessment, which means continued iteration is recommended to collect missing documentation or resolve nonconformities following the candidates Corrective Action Plan.

A provisional award is possible if a candidate meets most requirements but has not been operating the program for a sufficient period of time. 10Learning Activity

Although you will most often be the sole assessor, you are not working alone. IREC has developed a support system for you: every new assessor is assigned an assessor-mentor who will assist you with your first couple of assessments, answering questions and reviewing draft letters or reports as needed.IREC also holds quarterly online Assessor Meetings where all active assessors can talk about special topics, issues or program changes.
