IntroductionThe purpose of this project is to perform the TGMD and SFT with two patients, gather data from both tests and analyze the results to help better my perfessionalism as a future physical therapist.

TGMD-2

JumpingCatching

TGMD-2The test scores for student B were above average for the most part throughout the entire test given. Student B completed below average for jumping and catching. Student B had confusion on form with jumping, and had trouble getting fully off his feet. According to Newells Model, the negative constraint shown by student B would be considered an individual constraint since the student appears to be over weight, which played a factor in the student not getting fully off the ground when jumping. When catching the ball thrown, student B had trouble catching the ball with just his arms, but instead would catch with his body too. This is also an example of a individual constraint as the student seemed to not have above average hand-eye coordination when it comes to catching.

TGMD-2Strengths Stationary dribble was great and it was shown Student B played basketball, or a sport that involves dribbling. Underhand roll was very nice too. The roll was released from the students hand very softly with minimal bounce.WeaknessesStudent B struggled with catching a ball correctly without using their chest for assistance. Student B did not perform up to speed for his age on jumping. His form was not correct and had trouble getting both feet off the ground.

TGMD-2Activities to do at homeTape Jumping gameSet 10 taped lines (each line should be 2 feet horizontal long and 1 foot wide between)Ask student to jump from odd number to odd number (so start at line 1, jump to line 3)Then switch to even numbers (jump from line 2 to line 4)Check for proper form, arms bent 90 degrees upon jump and landing, knees bent, feet together as you jump and land. To end game, see how far student can jump starting at the first piece of tape. (They must use correct form!!)

TGMD-2Activities to do at homeBall-Wall Catching GameYou will need a stable wall and a 7 1/2 inch ball that can bounce off the wall being used. Draw a 2x2 box on the wall for where the student will aim to throw ball in order for it to come back for the catch. Stand 4 feet away from the wall so you have enough distance to throw the ball. Have student throw the ball at the wall, as the ball comes back have student get their hands ready, knees bent and eyes on the target. As student gets better at catching the ball, have them scoot back or use a smaller ball.

SFT

Chair Stand Test2 Minute Step Test

SFT

StructuralIndividual ConstraintsFunctionalTaskConstraintsEnviornmental ConstraintsThe test scores for patient L were shockingly way below average for a lady her age. Patient L performed both the two-minute-step test and the sit-to-stand chair test below 5% of what majority of woman her age compare. Patient L had issues stepping consistently in place as she stated she was winded and her knees were hurting, which resulted in her stepping inconsistently. According to Newells Model, this would fall under an individual constraint as she had previous issues with breathing and her knees. When patient L was performing sit-to-stand chair test, she used her knees as a level to help her raise from the seat and back down. This also would fall under individual constraints as patient L has known issues with her neck and knees. (These notes are on the actual test results.)

SFTStrengths

WeaknessesPatient L performed in the 85% percentile for the get up and go test. I was very impressed with her results. Patient L also performed in the 60% percentile for the back stretch and the chair sit and reach tests. She appeared pretty flexible. Patient L struggled with the chair to stand test as she felt winded during the test, and also stated her knees were hurting. She performed in the 25% percentile range. Patient L also struggled with the 2 minute step test. She was feeling the same as when she did the chair to stand test. She performed in the 25% percentile range.

SFTActivities to do at homeStability Ball Squats (Modified)You will need a 65 cm yoga ball and a stable wallPlace your back against the ball and have the ball against the wall, with feet shoulder width apart. Slowly start to bend at your knees while pushing your hips down as you start to descend on the ball. (DO NOT BEND AT THE HIPS) Go down to about a 55 degree angle, then press your heels down in to the ground firmly to come back up. Repeat 5x in a set, 4 times a week.

SFTActivities to do at homeStep Ups (Modified)You will need 28.75x14.25 platform, a stable, flat surface (like hard wood floors), and a wall for balancing support.Person will step up on the platform with dominant foot first, then have non- dominant foot come up too. (This is a rep)Person will step with non-dominant down off of platform (while holding the wall), then step off with dominant foot. (This is considered 1 rep)Repeat 7x times and 3x times a week. As patient gets better, make platform higher with possible attachments.

Conclusion-I felt I did really well with explaining all the directions to my clients before we performed each exercise. Both clients had fun during their tests and didnt have any issues. (Minus their personal issues already present.) -I also feel I did really well with my powerpoint as I had been working on it for quite some time now. -One thing I would change about this project is letting my client perform the test at home. She did have many distractions (like her dog) and wanted to take many breaks. I feel this could have been avoided if the test was given outside of her home. -I did not use the right size ball for the catching part of my TGMD test. I had forgotten my softball at home.
