ASSESSMENT FOR THE EGYPT GAME

I chose to predict is a good way to understand the novel. Its when you make a smart guess on what’s going to happen. The strategy I chose is using the post it notes. I use the post it notes quite a lot for predictions. I would put a post it note when something is either hard or easy to predict. When I find out the answer of the prediction I would put a post it note on how accurate or inaccurate my prediction was. This helps me understand the novel.

During a class discussion when we are reading together we find things that we really want to find out so we make predictions on the post it notes. I had a lot of questions in my head when we got to the part of the book when there were murders. First I predicted that it was the professor that was the murderer but than I thought it was some guy who lived in the Caso Rosada.

After using post it notes for a while I stopped using them regularly. I would mostly use them for describing the characters. I then liked discussing and making connections with a partner.

A strategy I did not use but I would like to try out is asking questions. I would always make predictions by myself but I should listen to what other people has to say.

1. Choose one of the reading skills and strategies discussed in class that you found most useful.

2. Choose one main idea, or character view point, or a theme, or the author’s purpose and trace its development throughout the novel. I’m going to write how April changed throughout the novel. At the beginning of the novel April had a really bad attitude. She didn’t have any friends because she was

like her mother. Her mother sent her away to her grandmother because she doesn’t have time with her.

Then at the end of the book April has completely become another person. She’s got a lot of friends to play the Egypt with her and she’s even closer to her grandmother. April use to call her grandmother by her name(Caroline)but at the end of the novel she would call her grandma.

• April changes a lot in the book and it started when she met Melanie. They became friends because they had the same interests like reading. Melanie would play with paper dolls by herself because she doesn’t have anyone to play with. Then April would play with her, she has a good imagination. They were both also interested in ancient Egypt and that’s how they started the Egypt game. Melanie and April decided that a deserted storage yard behind the A-Z Antiques shop would be the perfect spot. In stead of two Egyptians here were soon six. April having friends changed her attitude completely.

• April would sometimes get angry at things because her Mother has been doing a lot of things without her. She would only send letters. April’s mother had gotten married and moved in a small place so there was no space for her. April was then in a bad mood until she cheered up. April was also really nervous before the first day of school. She was a lot different then all the other children, she shouldn't be wearing what she wore in school. April was picked on by two boys called Toby and Ken. Toby and Ken soon joined the Egypt game and had brilliant ideas for it. That’s when they became friends but they did had fights and arguments.

• At the end April’s mother(Dorothea) has invited April to go to palm springs over Christmas but April replied that she had plans. She really wants to stay because now she has real friends and family.

-She was wearing a big, yellowish-white fur thing around her shoulders, and carrying a plastic purse almost as big as a suitcase.

This is at the beginning of the book so she is a brat. She has things that she doesn’t need for her age like her eyelashes.

What are the elements to build a strong friendship? To have a strong friendship requires trust, respect, something in

common and always looking out for each other. When you get into fights and arguments you should apologize to each other straight away. Friends always help each other no matter how old they get. Helping with your homework, getting a new house, taking care of your children. If you were to stay far from each other you should once in a while invite them or visit them so you will always remember each other.

What impact does family have during different stages of our lives? When your small you need to be taken cared of and raised properly.

You need to get a good education and your parents helped you with all this. When you’re a teenager you have a lot of problems and then your family gets involved in a lot of things because of you. When your older and married your probably to busy to visit your parents. Then when your parents get very old and ill you then have to take care of them.
