“Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer ...”
Speed Racer features the adventures of a young race car driver, his fabulous automobile and his close-knit group of family and friends. Originally a Japanese comic strip called "Mach Go Go Go,” the animated series Speed Racer has now become a cult classic and one of the most popular "Japanimated" series to hit the U.S. airwaves.
The Mach 5, Speed’s custom race car, is one of the most futuristic automobiles in the world. Its unique aerodynamic design and special devices — including twin rotary saw-blades, overhead bullet-proof canopy, headlight covers, a homing robot and the ability to travel short distances underwater — give the Mach 5 the competitive edge on and off the track!
• BEFORE ASSEMBLING MODEL, STUDY SKETCH CAREFULLY.
• NO PAINT OR GLUE IS REQUIREDHowever, if you wish to glue the pieces in the conventional manner, and detail the kit with paints, that is also an easy task.
OPTIONAL GLUING TIPSIMPORTANT — APPLY CEMENT TO INSIDE SURFACES ONLY.
• Avoid getting cement on outer surfaces of model sections. Use cement very sparingly and avoid getting cement on hands, so as not to mar or smear plastic surfaces. Do not hurry. Work carefully and patiently.
Note: Before proceeding to cement parts together, it is advisable to fit parts together dry (without cement) so that you may familiarize yourself with the parts and how they go together, also noting the points where cement is to be applied. For best results, assemble model exactly in the order indicated.
• This kit is molded of styrene plastic — use only styrene-compatible glues or cements. Assure yourself of a perfect model every time!
OPTIONAL PAINTING TIPS• For best results: Use only high quality paints designed specifically for use on plastic model kits.• Paints recommended for Speed Racer® MACH 5™ Model Kit#POL805:Black (flat) White (flat)Red (flat) Yellow (flat)Blue (flat) Silver (metallic)
• If extra detailing is desired, you may use black, white, blue and red to add a realistic look to the instrument panel in the form of dials, buttons and gauges. Silver may be used as metallic accents on the instrument panels and for the buckles on the seat belts.

Speed Racer® Mach 5™ Assembly Instructions #POL805
Take your time — work carefully. Study the instructions carefully
before beginning assembly. Remember that while this kit is designed for snap assembly, you may also use glue to cement the parts together. If you decide to paint your model kit you may wish to do so before snapping or gluing parts together.
Start with the chassis — snap the wheels (#32, #34, #38, #44)and
tires (#33, #35, #37, #43) together and snap an assembled wheel/tire assembly onto each end of the axles (#49, #52). Using the two panel screws(#50, #51), screw down the front axle stabilizer panel (#31) to secure the front axle. The rear axle will be secured later by snapping the rear wheel well panel into place. Now snap the headlights (#47, #48) and headlight covers (#45, #46) into position. Complete the chassis sub-assembly by snapping into place the four jack stand covers (#39, #40, #41, #42).
1 Now proceed to the car interior. Start by snapping the steering shaft
(#22), steering column (#24), steering wheel (#25), pedals (#23), stick shift (#21), seats (#16, #18), seatbelts (#15, #18) and hand brake (#26) into place. Now snap the instrument panel (#14), the dashboard top (#12), homing robot (#13) and rearview mirror (#11) into position. Next snap the firewall (#20), seat headrest (#17) and mufflers (#28) into place on the rear wheel well panel (#29). Snap the rear wheel well panel into place on the chassis (#36). Complete this assembly sequence by snapping the inside right and left door panels (#10, #30) into place on the car interior and snapping the car interior sub-assembly onto the chassis.
3 Begin assembly on the car exterior by snapping either the windshield
(#4) or the bulletproof/aqua canopy (#2) into place on the car body (#1). Snap into position the side mirror (#5), periscope (#3), engine cover panel (#7) and right and left tail fins (#8, #9). Snap the homing robot cover panel (#6) into position from underneath the car body. Now snap the car body onto the chassis — being sure to "trap" the snap tabs on the windshield between the inside door panels and the car body.
Finish your Mach 5 by adding the press on labels to the car hood,
doors and rear fender lights. (see drawings on back), and “Go, Speed Racer, go!”
