FOCAL POINTA limited construction programme and numerous buried servicesdictated that traditional methods of platform construction were notpracticable. Aspin group were engaged to deliver a bespokemodular platform extension to three platforms at Bedfordstation with limited foundation footprint and rapid installation time.

The solution; precast concrete platform units sat on pairs of drivensteel tubular piles and reinforced concrete header beams.

All finishes (except the thermoplastic yellow line) were cast into theunits in the factory using a variety of coloured concretes andaggregates. This included the copers and tactile pavers restrictingthe amount of onsite works and ensuring a high level of qualitycontrol.

The weight of each element was limited to allow installation by RRVwhere overhead lines restricted the use of mobile cranage.

The finished result is a durable, robust and solid feeling platform.
