Aspen Utilities Planner uses production plans and schedules to develop a corresponding optimal plan for the purchase, generation, and distribution of utilities. Integration with site production schedules allows the production of tactical utilities plans and nominations to external utilities suppliers.

The library of models in Aspen Utilities Planner has been specially developed for utility consuming systems. Equipment blocks and process streams can be visually placed to provide utility diagrams.

aspenONE Drive

With aspenONE Drive, users can access Aspen Plus or Aspen HYSYS models form a web browser or share it with their colleagues by uploading them to the aspenONE Drive, installed in their company’s network.

Users can protect IP by allowing colleagues to search, view, and run models from the web without downloading them.

Acid Gas Cleaning

Acid Gas Cleaning in Aspen HYSYS uses rigorous rate-based calculations, considering the mass transfer resistance and column configurations, and specialized property packages to deliver predictive results. The mass transfer resistance is the rate limiting step at the VL interface, and simulating this effect results in superior modeling accuracy.

Model a large set of amine solvents (V8.3), a DEPG physical solvent (V8.6), and acid gas extraction with liquid treating (V9). Track key contaminants, sulfur species, stripping agents, and heat stable salts.

Aspen Assay Management

Aspen Assay Management is a shared feature between Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining and Aspen PIMS. The Assay Management functionality includes a library of hundreds of assays, the ability to import assay data in multiple formats, the ability to share assays directly with Aspen PIMS, and an easy-to-use interface for manual entry of assay data. The powerful characterization capabilities can fit or estimate over 140 property curves to assay data and advanced visualization capabilities allow for study and analysis of assays before using characterized results to define Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining streams.

Alkylation Unit(s)

Alkylation Unit(s) refers to two rigorous reactor models to simulate Alkylation processes: one for sulfuric acid-based alkylation and one for hydrofluoric acid-based alkylation process. These models can be used in the Aspen HYSYS flowsheets like any other unit operation. The models can be calibrated to plant data and used for general simulation, unit monitoring or to update Aspen PIMS sub-models for refinery planning.

BLOWDOWN Technology

BLOWDOWN software technology, developed by Doctor Graham Saville and Professor Stephen Richardson of Imperial College London, is now available within Aspen HYSYS. This validated technology has been used in hundreds of studies in the oil and gas and chemical industries to identify locations in a system where temperatures can decline dramatically during depressurization. Use this tool now in Aspen HYSYS to accurately determine where low temperatures form, helping to minimize project CAPEX, but more importantly improve safety of the plant.

CatCracker

CatCracker is a rigorous reactor model in the Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining reactor suite used to simulate a refinery Fluid Catalytic Cracker (FCC) unit.

CatGas Hydrotreater

CatGas Hydrotreater refers to a pair of models in the Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining reactor suite that simulate the treatment of gasoline streams fed directly to the blending pool from other major process units, typically the FCC. The pair of models is comprised of a selective hydrogenation unit (SHU) designed to remove di-olefins and convert sulfides in order to clean the lighter part of the naphtha. The second unit of the pair is a hydro-desulfurization (HDS) unit designed to remove sulfur and other contaminants while preserving the octane number.

Column Analysis

Column Analysis in Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus (V9) includes an expansive set of hydraulic correlation for trays and packing as well as an interactive interface. Column Analysis allows you to view the whole column, identify any hydraulic issues, understand the operating range, and communicate your findings. With an intuitive interface, users can see how modifications in packing and trays change the hydraulic plots and the operating range of the columns.

Delayed Coker

Delayed Coker is a rigorous delayed coker model in the Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining reactor suite that can be fully calibrated and used for operations support and to update Aspen PIMS sub-models for improved optimization.

Hydrocracker

Hydrocracker is a rigorous model in the Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining reactor suite that simulates hydrocrackers and hydrotreaters consisting of reactor beds and associated elements such as recycle gas quench streams. Aspen HYSYS Hydrocracker is based on a rigorous, multiple-lump reaction system with over 150 components. Aspen HYSYS Hydrocracker is integrated into more complex flowsheets using standard Aspen HYSYS models and work processes, bringing high fidelity hydroprocessing modeling to a broader audience with its friendly Aspen HYSYS-based interface.

Isomerization Unit

Isomerization Unit offers a detailed kinetic model in the Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining reactor suite. It models various reactions such as isomerization, ring-opening, saturation, and more. Isomerization models can be used together in an Aspen HYSYS Flowsheet to represent lead and lag reactors.

Naphtha Hydrotreater

Reformer

Reformer is a rigorous reactor model in the Aspen HYSYS Petroleum Refining reactor suite that simulates a naphtha reforming unit producing reformate for gasoline blends in refineries. Aspen HYSYS Reformer is based on a rigorous reaction system with kinetic lumps similar to full gas chromatographs of the feed and reformate. It accurately predicts yields and properties resulting from different feedstocks and operating conditions. It is integrated into more complex flowsheets using standard Aspen HYSYS models and work processes, bringing high fidelity reformer modeling to a broader audience with its friendly Aspen HYSYS-based interface.

Safety Analysis

Aspen Plus and Aspen HYSYS offers the Safety Environment for sizing and documenting Pressure Relief Devices.

Use Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus to ensure that proper relief valve and rupture disk sizing methods are used throughout the overpressure analysis. Calculate relief loads and size and document relief device using industry accepted standards API 520, 521 implemented in Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus. Rigorously calculate fire scenario relief loads, consider multiple valves, and protect storage tanks in accordance with API 2000 standards.

Solids Modeling

Aspen Plus offers the ability to rigorously model chemical processes that involve both fluids and solids with Aspen Plus and the integration of solids models from SolidSim.

Solids process modeling in Aspen Plus supports rigorous descriptions of solids processing steps. Aspen Plus incorporates a comprehensive library of 20 solids unit operations (such as convective and spray dryers, granulators, crystallizers, fluidized bed reactors, crushers, gas/solid and liquid/solid separators, classifiers, and conveying systems) representing more than 70 pieces of equipment and can allow for a detailed description of granular solids. With conceptual solids models, modeling solids processing equipment is more accessible to everyone.

Sulsim™ Sulfur Recovery

Sulsim by Sulphur Experts has been used by top energy companies for rigorous sulfur recovery modeling for over 25 years. After the acquisition of this technology, AspenTech incorporated this software into Aspen HYSYS V9.
